  • ... why would he say "hallelujah" after he finds out that the baker is dead? i find that quite rude, but a good song nonetheless.

  • CASEY JONES PREASE!

  • I suggested to a hipster type at a party yesterday, in a druken state, that they should play this song here, they said they knew it and proceeded to not play it, and make a mockery of it - suggesting bums are filthy people and the such. No respect. And I swear the vodka was no vodka at all, but rubbing alcohol. Was indeed. Oh well. Left in time, home owner went mad and started yelling at everyone - swearing they were government agents. Oh well. Point being hipsters are yucky.

  • Good grief, I thought this was something we kids made up after singing the church hymns, didn't even know anyone else in the world knew it. Is there anything that isn't online anymore? Funny experience, hearing this and singing along again. Thanks for the giggle.

  • It's the LIBERAL National Anthem!!!!

  • Funny how after 80+ years this song's is still just as relivent now if not more so then ever

  • My grandpa used to sing the refrain to this song - thanks for bringing back some special memories.

  • This song reminds me of all those on welfare-

  • @knightLarry

being on welfare isn't being a bum.

  • "I don't like work and work don't like me, that's why I vote Democrat to keep getting freebies."

    HALLELUJAH! I'M A BUM ....

  • @BrotherOrchid @RHernies70

Right, because trickle-down economics are OBVIOUSLY working out great for us.

  • @Luther7718 You're right, it's time to try trickle-up poverty.

  • @BrotherOrchid Sorry, bud, but Rupert Murdoch having to line his swimming pool with silver instead of gold is hardly poverty.

Of course, all jabbing aside, the real problem is a lack of choice in America. Both parties are out to wholesale fuck the middle class. Among other things.

  • ha ha ha ha ha haaa!

  • HALLELUJAH! bum again

  • My grandfather used to sing this lol. I never thought way back then when he sang this that I myself would become a bum.

  • thanks to president obama, this song has become my theme. Rick Perry in 2012.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • im a victim of some terrible crime..thats why im a bum and mentally messed up god dont care =P

  • Hilarious! Someone should update this to "praise" the two years of unemployment checks now available to people who do not want to work.

  • This song is very appropriate today. "How can I work when there is no work to do?" I listened to this and other Harry McCluintock songs on my grandparents VICTROLA in 1931 to 1934 or so. In those days my grand mother always kept something in the ice-box for the HOBOS when they came by asking to hoe weeds or do some other work for some thing to eat.

They never had any work to be done but they always had food for them.

That's when I first learned my politics. THANKS FOR BRING IT BACK!!

  • I'm gonna sing this song loudly on my way to the welfare office

  • Covering this song tonight at open mic.. Long live the bums!

  • i have a victor pressing of this, wish i had a 78 turntable though

  • Many, many years since I've heard this. It brings back many happy memories of sitting around the fire singing these old classics.

  • Wow ... I recall my dad singing this, well the chorus at least, when I was a kid. I'm now 53 and this is the first time I have ever heard the actual song.

  • we play this on our wind up victrola. sung to old hymn..Revive us again...good memories

  • The one by Al Jolson is altogether different. That was from a movie he was in

  • Wow! I have the origional 1928 issue. I had no idea it was re-released. Strange RCA choose to put it on the Bluebird label.

  • FIRST TIME I'VE HEARD THIS IN 70 YEARS! MY BIRTHDAY TOMORROW (OLD) BUT STILL REMEMBER EVERY WORD OF THIS LOVELY LITTLE NUMBER. THANKS FOR THE MEMORY.

  • Just curious but this tune sounds alot like a sunday school song we used to sing but the words are changed.Like hallelujah praise the lord.I love this one way better.Anybody remember that song?Or am i thinking of something else?

  • @fresnoharley That hymn is titled ''Revive Us Again.''

  • @mewhor Thank you:)

  • Jim Hill's Line Was The Great northern Railroad which stretched across the Pacific Northwest. Many a hobo road this line, but not on passenger trains.

  • Yeah my grandmother used to sing this to all of us a lot. I told her about finding this song online, and she's excited to hear it next time I come visit her in the nursing home. A song from a completely different time. hard to wrap your mind around that is.

  • Wow, that is so sad.

  • awesome!!!!!

  • Hello i'm Harry.

  • a nice clean copy ! be sure n keep it safe

  • @chrisNova777 - Hillbilly Music ... NOT Bluegrass.

  • (Chorus) I went to a house And I asked for some bread And the lady says "bum, bum, the baker's dead (Chorus) Why don't you work Like other men do Now, how can I work When there's no work to do (Chorus) Why don't you save All the money you earn If I didn't eat I'd have money to burn (Chorus) I don't like work And work don't like me And that's the reason I am so hungry
  • @chrisNova777 should be bluegrass

  • The BUMS will ALWAYS LOSE!!! I suggest you do what your parents did!!! Get a JOB SIR!!!

  • @soopermexican If there's a job to be gotten, I'll take it. If's no-one's hiring, then what's to do?

  • @soopermexican Phones ringing, dude.

  • "I've a button could you sew a shirt on it" - Harry McClintock

  • @mashtones my grandfather used to say that :D

  • Gosh this brings back so many memories. Dad used to sing this song to us kids when we were very young. Usually when we went on a long ride, like to our Gramma's in Meadville, Pa. Well I am now 55 and he is 95 and I just played it to him. What a treat for him!! Can't wait to send it to my "Sis" overseas. Thanks for the memories.
