Yeah, I did some research since my first comment. Fantastic guitar player. He did alot of my favorite solo's like "Do It Again" and "Bodhisattva". He makes me want a Danelectro Coral Electric Sitar (the guitar used in Do It Again).
It's actually Denny Diaz playing the guitar. Not McDonald. Skunk Baxter was playing the Congas instead of his usual guitar or pedal steel. Michael did work with Steely Dan but not on this recording.
@ParkeLG1023 i meant no disrespect to the gentleman. i appreciate his music very much! never knew his name. thats all. this is the first time anybody responded to one of my posts. keep rockin' peace out!
@joshua9312 The original solo on electric sitar was done by Denny Dias, who is the one doing the solo here on the electric guitar. Amazing player and I agree, one of the finest solos ever.
@burntreynolds68 that's denny dias. he and the guy playing the congas (skunk baxter) formed the band down south, although they eventually had it taken from them by walter becker and donald fagen. denny and skunk had all their song writing credits taken and were eventually forced from the band. although talented musicians, denny and skunk are strong racists with links to white supremist groups. skunk's choice of congas here is his way of mocking blacks. and no, denny is NOT hispanic
@rockingirlsusan yeah i guess i am a hateful person for speaking about how other people are hateful. by that logic i am also living in the 1970s, as i am talking about a band from the 1970s. and even moreso, i suppose i am actually both denny dias and skunk baxter simultaneously, as i was talking about them. everybody knows that one can only talk about the things one is, and that it is physically impossible to talk about things one isn't
Fagen sang lead on the hit record. His voice double-tracked was eerie-yet- catchy sounding at the time, imho. Apparently DF didn't have confidence that he could be The lead vocalist for Steely Dan when they organized the band- though he sang all their early demos (found on unofficial releases). So they hired Palmer. Fans responded to Fagen's unique/nasally lead vocal sound and Palmer was let go after the second album, I think. I like the song "Brooklyn" alot and prefer Fagen's vocal on the demo
I never said that Steely Dan was among my favorite groups... but their sound is so timeless -- I now admit I really like them. Thanks for posting this
love them..just pictured them a little different..hhhhaaaaa...they would probably picture me a little different too. LOL this is one band I never had the pleasure of seeing and would have loved to...so many good songs and so different
I saw this!! I remember seeing it on Midnight Special. I love Steely Dan.

I guess not being a liberal now qualifies as being a racist for some people. How pathetic.

@jab3785 In the words of Mr. Fagen, "That right-wing hooey sure stunk up the joint."
I guess context would help, but I'm not sure that politics are a good idea. It's just Steely Dan... keep it simple.

If I'm not mistaken, it's David Palmer. He sang "Dirty Work" and "Midnight Cruiser" on the Can't Buy A Thrill album.
