This is definitely one of the most nihilistic but great anime movies in animedom.
Tomino must've been in some serious depression to have come up with this. Despite its depressing ending, I felt that this anime couldn't end on a happy note.
I believe he was trying to connect on a more "spiritual" level and transcend this anime to an artistic level.
I managed to find the TV series, and after seeing it I really didn't like how movie did the Kitty part. It is not because her head flew, it is because it felt like that they just needed to fit her and her death in somewhere since Daram died before her in the movies. It felt like Kitty died in the movie before getting to know Cosmo a little bit, where as the series she got to know Cosmo a little.
I've always read it as a little bit of a retcon - aside from her death being different, I take it that the rest of the series still happens unchaged (except the changed ending) - Kitty and the Star Steckin sequences are more there to remind people of who the characters are.
I always felt there perhaps should have been a compilation film between "Contact" and "Invoked" - they just don't connect very well, and Gije really gets screwed. Thank God for the series...
I was\am the leader of Shin-Getter, and I'm really gad to see these videos on youtube. It's good to know all that hard work we put into Ideon will continue on :)
Many thanks for your work in subbing this, then :) I'm simply hoping to keep it avaliable... People need to see the series, and as an official release seems unlikely, we've got to keep it where people can see it :)
Nah, it's just quickly edited as the Kitty stuff (and the Star Steckin stuff through the titles) is mainly meant to bring people quickly up to speed (in this case, to remind people of Kitty as she wasn't in the first film).
I do agree that there probably should have been some sort of bridge scene merging the archive footage from the series, and the new animation. The bit that bugs me is there's no good reason for Cosmo to just be standing in front of the Ideon...
Thanks very much for posting! I place Be Invoked in the same league as Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Eva (which borrows heavily from this) - genre defining and groundbreaking.
1:38 has some very nice animation

The IDEON - Be Invoked is.... the first and also the last greatest anime.
This anime is handwriting / painting anime, not using any CG, no one can reproduce such great animation..
If you have an oppotunity to see original picture by DVD, please check & enjoy in awe.

I can't believe Sanrio distributed this movie in Japan! Ringing Bell was pretty sad, but it wasn't nearly as depressing as Ideon.

I'll be perfectly honest, this is the first video I saw of this anime, AND I DID NOT EXPECT THE EXPLOSIONS AND DECAPITATIONS.

Are the softsubs available? You translated them from Japanese? Thanks.

Was something cut? Since it's a little abrupt, one minute Kitty and Cosmo are walking then it's the middle of an attack.
