If anybody had this equipment, they probably wouldn't need help with learning how to square the timber. Doing it without machines is the real skill which I would love to learn.
@Espie1979 i agree. it's like they're saying "squaring lumber is easy. all you need is tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment and its a snap." :D
6" away from the blade should be fine... and sleds are pretty popular for table saws.. a skill saw is much more dangerous than a table saw.. there are many more accidents involving skill saws due to kickback etc.
Use the sled for it's purpose, this guy needs to GET HIS hands AWAY from the blade. You can't see the blade and there is no need to get the rough stock out of the way. Do that 99 times and the 100th time fingers or a hand will be gone, especially when in a hurry. Dude this is a table saw and it WILL remove your hand with ease, just like it squares lumber with ease. NEVER put your fingers ANYWHERE near the blade....again why did you build the sled/jig. No joke here.
We don't have a chop saw?

Why not joint one face and then the edge as well? Instead of planing in between. I'm a cabinetmaker and i find it saves alot of time.

Holy cow, that jointer you used to square the first face - now that's a jointer! Where did you get that, might I ask?
BTW, I like your table saw sled. Very well made. Mine is a little more utilitarian, not as attractive.

Thanks for the comment.
Good advice. I don't think it is as close as you think.
