would this be useful when joining 2 pieces of chair rail? my wall is longer then the 8 ft. piece of chair rail. we cut it at a 45degree angle but it won't go together with out a gap.
@cashew2323 You cut a little more off the back side of the cut so that there is no material towards the back side that would prevent the front side of the cut from making a perfectly tight joint.
I would make a coped cut.

The interior measurement tip helped clarify where to begin. I never considered a back cut and your cardboard shortcut made it easy.
