Crime stems from poverty and i've heard that struggle called a class war. I could be crushed by steel at work and an officer could be shot as much as a fisherman drowned. This loss is not a special and unique snowflake.
A great tune. And I think 'Ol buck-sixty-five is doing a great job on his show. It has swung me over from mainstream radio. And I stay tuned for Canada Live following.
Local University radio show Steel-Belted Radio, (UMFM) introduced me to Arbuckle, though. A station I listen to all the time - alright I am an alumnus from 40 years ago!!
i heard them interviewed on CBC Radio 2 by Rich Terfry (the new love of my life) and he said that it was a fill in line and that it referred to all his girlfriend's friends having frozen vodka in their homes in December. I kid you NOT.
Asked a fellow employee (who knows a little about drinking alcohol) what she thought "Vodka December" means? Her reply was it is a cold December where the only thing to do to stay warm and snuggly is remain inside and drink vodka - no she is not Russian!
Looked up the lyrics - apparently it is: "beautiful storms dancing like vodka december".
Here is my thought about why the song struck me so deeply. A fellow police officer, Sgt. Doug Tribbling of York Regional Police was shot and killed in the line of duty during the mid-80's. He had a girl-friend who was also an OPP officer and her name was JEN. The song reminds me of the two of them together and the tragedy of Doug's senseless killing - a great guy cut down by a scumbag. RIP Doug.
I agree, I guessed "Juliet Echo November" stands for JEN. I have no idea what "Vodka December" means though. I always thought it was "fog in December".
@canadasmusic Vodka December is a Canadian thing, think. In Canada, in December... or January, February! Temps can get down to -40 (C or F, make no difference, it's the same at that temp). Alcohol, if left outside in the winter can get so cold it can turn to slush. Slushy vodka is vodka December. Been there. Live there!!
@cfauteux I am self-employed working at home as a technical writer. Usually in the mornings I work with no background because it is my most productive time. Catch the noon show on local talk radio. But about 1:00 or 2:00 I turn Radio CBC 2 on in the background. I usually have it on until 8:00 pm. Except, there a few shows on university radio (UMFM and U of WPG) I tune in to specifically.
great selection of music...love canadian indie or folk or whatever you call it..

@tprdfh51 actually Doug's girlfriends name was Virginia - but he referred to her as "Ginny" or "Gin" which sounding like the "JEN" in this song.

@canadasmusic See my comment below. Vodka December is slushy vodka, left to freeze in -40 temps!

I also think "JULIET - ECHO - NOVEMBER" refers to the girl in the song - her name is Jen?
tprdfh51 2 years ago
I just wish I knew what Vodka December meant!
Its sounds like he's talking about the Phonetic Radio alphabet, in which care Vodka December would simply mean VD!
drewgraing 2 years ago
@drewgraing VD in the phonetic alphabit would be VICTOR DELTA - I think they are saying "like fog in December".

This actually sounds good. As long as Carolyn is singing harmony and not out front the blend is great.
