A Korean Zen Master So Sahn wrote in His manual for Zen practitioners that to wear monk robe and not doing monk job corectly, it is better to leave monkhood to become a layman. If false prestige and harmful activity take place the involved monk a poseur and pretender is destined to Avici Hell. Why? The Buddhadharma is very benevolent and powerful. Those who practise with honesty, get access to powerful insights and awareness transformations leading to enlightenment. False won't do. Bad karma !

Shamar Rinpoche is the second highest authority in the Karma Kagyu, as confirmed by the 16th Karmapa, so I'm not sure you understand what you're asking when you say take out his site (?). Perhaps you didn't read The Karmapa Papers, Rogues in Robes, and Buddha's Not Smiling. One doesn't need 10 years, just enough information.. I have spoken to many people involved in the situation, and all is indeed very clear...

Everybody believe in Karmapa Orgyen everything and all the big master of the Buddhism Tibetan, the leaders of lineages as well as three of four regents of the lineage OF THE KAGYUPAS and the integrality of the Tibetans (More than 99 %.) and of course the Dalai-Lama !

@laurent975 Not really. Several important masters of other lineages have given Karmapa Thaye Dorje the initiations and transmissions needed to complete his education. Of course everyone tiptoes around the political issues but they know who is who. The highest Kagyu lama after Karmapa - Shamar Rinpoche - is clear who he supports. The opinions of other lower-ranking Kagyu lamas or lamas of unrelated lineages really don't matter that much.

The outsiders must understand that the The Dalai Lama historically nor traditionally ever had the authority to choose the next Karmapa reincarnation. You have to think it is politically motivated to meddle with the Karma Kagyu tradition. The Dalai Lama is not the head of Tibetan Buddhism as is misconstrued in the West.

Dear Luke..I'll tell you a secret. Liberated lamas get another illusory ego when they are reborn. They have to perfect the training just like us to go beyond greed and pride, just for them it's much easier. Still, not all of them make it. Also they have courts called "labrangs", with their own agendas and power struggles. So sometimes things get confused for old reasons - power, prestige, and money. Seen another way: 2 Karmapas is a test of the students' critical thinking, and most are failing..

I'm Buddhism myself and I'm 100% sure that H.H Ogyen Trinley Dorje is the true Karmapa.

Reason behind it:

1. H.H Tai Situpa Rinpoche (who is one of the clostest students of Late Karmapa 16th)

2. Dalai Lama confirm it.

3. Mingyur Rinpoche

4. Sangye Nyimpa Rinpoche & Tenga Rinpoche (who are the teacher and student of Karmapa 16th & 17th)

I believe u live in europe coz no one except europe believe in Thaye Trinley, it is due to Ole nydhal who influenced u

I understand, and you're welcome to your view. Briefly: 1. Shamar Rinpoche is senior to Tai Situ.

2. Dalai Lama is Gelugpa, and respectfully, is not relevant to internal Kagyu matters.

3. Other Rinpoches... consider if they have monasteries, relatives, students in Tibet. Ask yourself what choice they have, especially if their teacher picks a side.

It's unfortunate when students have to choose between high lamas. No-one can blame a student who sticks with their teacher. But they can be wrong.

no one is the 17th anything. re-incarnation is total myth. if just a confusion of the mind, the last refuge of the self, the last excuse out taking responsibility or facing death square on.

if there is no self, then there is no self to be reincarnated! simple.

Good point. This is why Buddhists refer to rebirth rather than reincarnation. On the relative level, illusory selves arise and tulkus can remember previous experiences from the same mindstream. But on the ultimate level, there are no inherently-existing selves to be reborn.

there is no self means there is no ego but the mind reincarnates because of the karma, positive and negative things you have done in this or previous lifes. and according to that, you choose where to reincarnate or rebirth.

For those viewers unaware of the Karmapa, the individual in this video is not recognized as H.H. the 17th Karmapa. That title belongs to H.H. Ogyen Trinley Dorje (sometimes spelled Urgyen Trinley Dorje). The person shown in this interview is recognized by a break away individuals from the Kagyu lineage. The vast majority of Tibetan Buddhists (including Kagyupa's) recognize His Holiness Ogyen Trinley Dorje as the only legitimate reincarnation of His Holiness the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa.

I'll just add one thing: the function of Karmapa is not a popularity contest. H.H. Thaye Dorje is recognised by (among others) H.H. Shamarpa, the most senior student of H.H. 16th Karmapa, and historically considered his equal in realisation.
