Well... MAYBE that's music and MAYBE it really is, but REALLY I don't like it at all.

  • too much energy i ze building

  • this is not music

  • @korakisss Who the fuck are you to say what's music and what's not?

  • Where's is the fucking sense of this song? o.o

  • @datohmeit That's the point of the song. It's more like performance art and less like music.

  • this is so motherfucking great

  • .........wtf?

  • would be much better with out the vocalist

  • pure artform

  • Yay Post-Avant Jazzcore!

  • is it weird that I find this quite catchy?

  • @SebbeSucksBawlz not at all

  • Why do people enjoy movies which make them feel sick, uncomfortable or aggressive? Many enjoy the same thing in music. Especially musicians - many creaters of music are interested not only in making music you can dance to, but music that causes positive and negative emotions in people. That explains the interest in this music - it is music by sophistocated musicians which produces an aggressive or energetic rush or panic. Look up "naked city sex fiend" for a completely different impression.

  • its hard to understand the music, but i really can't understand the vocals.

  • best combo of jazz and hardcore.

if you don't understand this band then don't watch these videos or listen to their music- it's that simple.

    FUCK OFF

  • i know they are all very talented and this music is structurally genius, but how the fuck can you like this?!

  • Sounds like he is regurgitating

  • INCREDIBLE!! I was at that show. "Let's hear it for Mr. Fuckin Eye!". Zorn, Frith, Frissell, Horovitz, and of course the amazing Joey Baron. Thanks Zorn, those years at the K. Factory and Puck Building taught me so much about the structure, beauty & brutality of music.

  • Is this song available on iTunes? I can't seem to locate it.

  • you cant seriously think that this is even close to music..

  • @Miv00 You can if you're not a close-minded idiot.

  • @littleswedishboy tell me how? I'd love to see you do that. I dont get how screaming and growling is music. There isn't anything close to an actual word.

On the other hand I don't even get why I'm sitting here and hoping to get backed-up.. because appearently people here do like this noise. but have fun with that, then I'll just jump back to what i like to call music. peace out!

  • @Miv00 So wait, you think music needs to have "words"? So you reckon Rachmaninoff's Piano concerto #2 isn't music? Come on now.

Music exists in forms far beyond the constraints of the popular "song" format. From Chopin to Metallica to Justin Bieber, to inuit throat singers and gregorian chanting, down to experimental dissonance like this song by the incredibly talented gentlemen in Naked City. These world-class musicians (which they are) are exploring a feeling and the boundaries of harshness in

  • @littleswedishboy i hate to agree when i have lost.. but i better. What i wrote before was wrong, and of course music is more than just singing. I apologize for that one. And i guess my first post was even worse, though your reply wasn't nice either.

But still I can't find any logical explanation to why you think this sounds good.

Sorry. but i guess we just have different tastes ;-)

  • @Miv00 (continued) song form. You may not be attuned to this type of experimentation, and that's totally fine. Regardless of your preference: there are notes, there's a tempo, there's a rhythm, it's music.

I recommend checking out some of Bill Frisell's solo stuff. He plays guitar in this piece, but his solo work is a lot more... "palatable" to the general audience. It's still jazz, it's still experimental, but it's more melodic. Look for his song "Probability".

    Thank God for music

  • FUCK YOU!!

  • FUCK YOU!!

  • no fantomas if not for Naked City, Patton did vox for some naked city shows

  • its an acquired taste... if you like shit

  • awesome

  • THIS. Is music.

  • if anyone doesn't like this, they are a faggot.

  • anyone know the tabs for this?

  • funny games was the shit

  • lunatic asylum

  • Where was this performance at?

  • i can't help but chuckle when john zorn starts doing his vocals...still a great song/band though

  • most of the time i really hate this kind of music but this is really good! idk why i like it, just do. also this fit in perfectly well in funny games!

  • it sounds like trash, but let me tell you this, it sounds like those intense gor rock sings w/out any vocals and just high riffing and low bass......anyone agree? it's vomit but it's kinda cool if you've seen the movie funny games cause it sounds all dark and stuff:)

  • Sounds like a bunch of retards.

  • WOW!!! This is great!!!

Theres nothing clever, or original in saying, "Wow this sucks", or "No lyrics, (im odviously not comparing Naked City to any classical music, but in both lyrics or libereto are not always needed, this piece in question doesnt need lyrics) no talent (there is no such thing as talent, Hendrix didnt just pick up a guitar and do Voodoo Child, its a skill learnt, and these people can play their instruments), no brain (i put to you that you are the no brain-ed man)

  • I agree with your first statement but after that you make it completely clear that you know nothing about music. First of all, you're confusing instrumental proficiency with musical talent. John Zorn's band clearly has proficiency, but it doesn't necessarily translate to good music. Hendrix created Voodoo Child not because he was good at guitar--that's idiotic to say.

I hate this music because it doesn't accomplish anything. It's like modern art. It needs to be there but has no other purpose.

  • @Parvenu333

Alright theres lot to get through so here i will attempt to show my 500 characters with your 1500:

That was sort of my point, "Talent" is intangible, people can pick up things in a shorter space of time, but in the end 1 hours practice isnt going to cut it no matter how "Talented" you are. And likewise, i love Hendrix, but in the end he is good, great even, possibly the best technical guitarist ever. But still i would say its talent

and modern art has had a bad rap, as being-

  • Zorn is considered a "jazz" musician, but I honestly see know correlation between Naked City's music and any sort of jazz traditions whatsoever. It is not clear that he has taken any cues from jazz harmony in the past 90 years. You can call this jazz in that it is in the spirit of jazz, but that's fallacious as well because there are no improvised passages whatsoever. Every part is written out.

Now that I've said all that, I suppose I can finally say what I want: Wow, this sucks

  • @Parvenu333

continued-as being pretencious, i myself is a photographer and have experienced this lots with people somehow thinking that the link between pretencious and not being able to understand it, or it being not to your particular tastes...

And in the end the bulk of jazz ive seen live, is sooo hard to listen to, its no longer a point where jazz becomes music, a speradic, fast paced, incomprehensible mess. and these are some of the best technical saxophonists in Europe.

  • @rorrt I don't think I said anything about pretentiousness, but basically the ideas I have concerning that type of thinking are thus:

In order for art to have meaning, it must mean something to its creator. Take modern art for example. There was that one guy who invited a bunch of snoots to an art show, gave them water, and after they went home after seeing now art, their piss was green. Obviously, this is not traditionally "art," but it meant something to the guy.

  • @rorrt Just from hearing Zorn talk, you get a sense of his conceptual relation to his music. He operates primarily from ideas, and they stay abstract even in their realized form. What he's trying to say, if there is something, reaches little to few.

They say when writing you should always learn something over the course of your piece. The same goes for composition; if you begin with the abstract, you must end with clarity or you will be misunderstood forever.

  • The only reason this music exists is because someone had to do it, and better Zorn who exhibits no sort of musical talent to be seen whatsoever than someone with actual talent that can offer something progressive and forward thinking. This is an accumulation of things, not in the spirit of creation but in the spirit of summation. It's like if I wanted to be a novelist but instead I cut out a bunch of pages from great American literature and pasted them between covers calling it an original.

  • @Parvenu333

    -in europe.

And in the end, to be honest im not crazy about them but as something different they serve that purpose.

and if you listen to Zorn's Batman that better shows off his skills as a composer and musician.

PM'ing me a response would be preferable as cutting back and forth between pages is time consuming.

anyway thanks for your detailed response and whilst not all of it i agree with quite alot of it.

  • @rorrt Wow. This sucks. No lyrics. No Talent. No Brain.

  • @spicyMcHAGGIS9green

    Okay, i agree!!!

  • @rorrt Excuse me?

  • wow..this sucks

  • I LOVE TO SEE ZORN GETTING INVOLVED IN THE VOCALS!

  • whos the vocals dude

  • Yamatsuka Eye.

  • @XGREEDOX apparently the hunter from left 4 dead.

  • @cmfowler1223 haha yes!

  • @cmfowler1223 I Wonder why? XD

  • @cmfowler1223 he should jump on sombody while hes singing

  • @XGREEDOX
