Having dabbled in song writing myself I have to disagree with you on a level, beat and rhythm is more often just a structure or a flow to let your words reach the people, if they can relate to 'teen difficulties' then obviously they experienced much the same thing making them in their own way, however small: Emo.

The sheer amount of their songs that are about betrayal or emotional fragility or rage are against you here, You're not gonna see em writing about ho's or bling any time soon are you?

Who knows, I've never been a fan of Linkin' Park. My point wasn't that they were about rap/hip-hop. There's many more genres than these simple ones we're all throwing out. All I can say right now, just stop calling it emo and do more research on what that genre was and became to be. Emo genre is all about. What you just said, bluntly, "An emotional song is sad/angsty." An emotional song isn't just weeping. Learn more about genres if you bother writing a song again.

Im going to agree with sinato on this. Emo music sings on how they "feel" sorry for themselves and that they cant stand life. Linkin park sings on how it is to be a teenager and how emotions do play a big roll. Like numb. Its about a girl who feels that her perants dont listen to her like most teens do. Screamo is almost the same thing but they make their lyrics MORE depresing.
