  • U can tell by the nightfire ...

  • best album of all time ..

where is the film 2 this script?

  • excellent quality

  • Gabriel wasnt present for most of the writing of the whole album lamb lies down

  • So were the 5 dislikes the same 5 people who thought Phil Collins was a better singer than drummer?

  • @Juggajim40 i agree with you, if peter g didnt leave genesis would have made 3 more good albums. collins rips on drums, imitated gabriels vocals

  • Let me out of Pontiac when I was just seventeeeeen . . . . I had to get it out of me if you know what I mean. . .what I meeaaaannnn

  • 1 PINK FLOYD 2 GENESIS 3 YES!! 4 THE WHO 5 LED ZEPPELIN 6 POOH

Beatles are a nice band but easy band for little girls!

  • 1 genesis pink floyd 2 zeppelin the doors 3 rush 4 the who yes

  • If you listen close enough, Peter Gabriel is channeling Kurt Cobain. Oh - I mean the other way around! So, this song gave birth to Punk and to Seattle Grunge...

  • "No time for romantic escape when your fuffly heart is ready for rape"

  • Similarities musically to Duke's "Man of Our Times"?

  • I can never get tired of this song! It's just FANTASTIC!

  • Very strange keyboard sound!

  • I love The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. It's an absolutely incredible album but I would have to say Foxtrot is their undisputed best album.

  • The Early Genesis Albums Like Foxtrot , Selling England By The Pound And The Lamb Lies down On Broadway Are The Pinnacle Of The Progressive Rock Era

Also Listen With Headphones For The Ultimate Genesis Experience

  • @therehastobeme You can't forget about Nursery Cryme. That's also an incredible piece of work.

  • Genesis, in 1974, spawned the punk era with this searingly emotional "anthem" for angst and disillusion. Back in NYC was and is still the ultimate "angry young man" song. No way the Sex Pistols weren't inspirred by Britain's most literate prog band. I Rael.

  • You're sitting in your comfort, you don't believe I'm real...you cannot buy protection from the way that I feel.

  • What a great beginning!!

  • great album

  • One of my absolute favorite Genesis tracks. That 3rd verse, with all the instruments kicking in...wow....amazing power.

  • I'm not full of shit....

  • Possibly the nastiest most riveting tunes i have ever heard in my entire life. So special, consider the source. Peter is not God, but as close as you are going to find on this Planet. If that is wrong, direct me beyond.

  • no connection?

  • per "iniziati" dei genesis...Just for Genesis "acolytes"...

  • "I was just...17. I had to get it out of me, if you know, what I mean, what I meeeean" One of my favorite lyrics of all time.

  • that album rock my chilhood, and as at the time i didnt understand english language much it also tickle my imagination, also at the time was no internet and rumour that there was a movie about the album like tommy for the who ut that was a rumour right? gosh all we have to do now is with a click and we can see and hear genesis on stage, and we become the colony of slippermen lol

  • Perfekto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lymnocryptes1 You did indeed...see the lyrics...type in "back in NYC lyrics" and you get 40 sites....great song, huh?

  • So you think, I'm a tough kid. Is that what you heard?

  • Green Day? Foo Fighters? Oasis? Muse?

  • this was one of the most compelling concerts, this song a pinnacle, meloltron kicking in at 4:15 lifted the audience from their seats, hearts pounded, full focus on Peter it was amazing

  • I used to listen to this song when I was a little kid. Back then, I didn't realize or appreciate the complexity of this stuff. Listening back now, I realize this song has ONE HELL OF A FRICKIN' INSANE TIME SIGNATURE! This ain't no average garage band stuff... it's BRILLIANT!

  • as far as CONCEPT albums go this was the cream of the crop IMHO

  • @manurewa59 actually floyds animals is as good

  • The birth of alternative music...

  • @Joe17131713 - have u never heard of King Crimson, ELP and countless others from the 60's and 70's that were big before genesis??? King Crimson may have been the first actual alternative rock band in 1969 but who is arguing cause steve winwood and traffic were certainly not formula by any means and they go back to 67, when St Pepper was released...no! Genesis did not invent this but hey rode the wave as well as any alternative band to follow Traffic and the rest

  • @godisdeadagain Pink Floyd was one of the earliest alternative bands. Peter Gariel era Genesis was one of the best though IMHO.

  • @godisdeadagain There's also Van Der Graaf Generator as far as Prog Rock goes. Abso-fucking-lutely incredible on their instruments. There's a guy that plays two saxophones at the same time. Pretty awesome.

  • il piu grande gruppo ...altissimo spessore..tutto il resto viene un attimo dopo

  • My God. Genesis are truly sublime.

  • Stupenda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "No time, for romantic escape, when your fluffy heart is ready for rape".That is bonechilling.epic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "No time, for romantic escape, when your fluffy heart is ready for rape".That

  • This song ALWAYS moves me (both physically and emotionally) and has on several occasions brought me to tears. I mean: Gabriel's straining emotion filled vocals, the static rhythm but ever-shifting texture (I especially like the moog taurus @4:17), the abstract yet tangibly meaningful (if not meaningful, then at least beautifully selected) lyrics. Call me lame, pussy, fanatic, etc.--I don't care. If you haven't experienced music in this carnally enlightened way, then I am truly sorry for you

  • just listening to the songs off my favorite album of all time and noticed I'm number 66,666 on this track...kinda cool. BTW, I won't bad mouth Collins but early Genesis is so far superior to the 80's stuff. Or to quote a previous comment "This is Classic Shit"!!!

  • be nice guys

  • Maloney are you high? Phil Collins' pop drivel was horrendous compared to this stellar track from The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. THIS Track is EXACTLY why Genesis WAS good. Invisible Touch was good compared to this? hahahahaha. Even Phil knows much of what he put out in his solo career was crap.

  • This is Classic Shit!

  • Hard to believe Phil Collins was part of this given his latter career musical output catering to 50something housewives with horrid songs like Sussudio.

  • @Mjr4464 Phil Collins has sold records to all sorts of people, young and old, black and white, rich and poor, across the world, hence why he's one of the world's most successful artists of all time. This track, on the other hand, is exactly the kind of music that killed off progressive rock - no melody, too clever by half time signature, meaningless lyrics impossible to make out without reading them. Just an unpleasant noise.

  • @MALONEYCAMFIELD The time signature is too clever? I think this keyboard riff/drum rhythm is catchy and immensely satisfying. If you don't get it, maybe it's just because you're too stupid.

  • @MALONEYCAMFIELD 7/8 is too tricky for you?

  • Comment removed

  • @MALONEYCAMFIELD Get the fuck outta here! And if yous thinking leaving another fucking stupid comment ..FUGETABOITIT

  • @MALONEYCAMFIELD Holy Jesus FuckYou Christ.... Check ProgArchives. This album is rated one of the HIGHEST IN ALL OF PROGS HISTORY, and IS one of the BEST!

  • My favourite track on this LP. :)

  • the first wave-song ever...

  • album mostruoso !! Spero sempre in un live "the lamb lies down on brodway".....al teatro mediterraneo a Napoli.....da dove cioe' e' partita la legenda dei GENESIS in Italia.

  • Oh. Hell. Yes.

  • groundbreaking album for sure.

  • Can't beat a song in 7 sometimes...

  • Aw C'mon!

    Ya know this is Great!!

n it took Peter as well as the Band(Genesis) to make this epic work of Music n More,

they hoped someday would be a movie...

n i still hope so too!!!

  • Your progressive hypocrites lay out their trash....

  • I love this cos it's fuckin LOUD

  • NYC for good or worse...

  • The Wall is a great album, but The Lamb... it's just spiritual.

  • WOW it's been a long time since i heard this... memories of the 80's for me...

  • I think Selling England will be remembered through the ages as one of the greatest musical creation of al time, but this album along with Foxtrot will be remembered as well

  • best song on the album

  • Am I the only one who doesn't really like this album all that much, I mean compared to Selling England...

  • @wwerulestna Selling England By the Pound is my favorite.

  • @wwerulestna I don't know... I think I prefer TLLDOB over SEBTP, but they're both great!

  • @wwerulestna The drums and feel of this album are more solid, appealing to those of us who are also hard rock/metal heads!

  • @Rockin2Long I'm a 'metal head' too, though I hate that term...

  • They wrote this with no musical knowledge, only musical influence. Imagine building a bridge with only a picture. That what this album represents.

  • @rdclandscape If you mean that they tried to reject all of their accumulated knowledge and approached the making of this album in a more 'organic' and childlike way then that is a very profound and interesting comment. If however you meant they dont know their arse from their elbow when it comes to music then you are talking rubbish... ;)

  • This is one of Genesis' greatest creations with Peter

  • oh, sweet sickness. Gabriels Genesis was unbeleivable!!

  • One of Pete's greatest moments w/ Genesis. My fav song from LLDOB.

  • I am 43 and was like 6 years old when this album came out.Who was buying this album in 1974? You had to be in the know. Wow, I wonder who was buying this album in the United States The United States in 1974? Was Genesis and underground band then in the U.S.A? What kind of people were buying this album back then in the U.S.A? Can anyone tell me who was around back then and bought this when this came out?Was Genesis popular then in the United States or underground?I was too young back then to know

  • @gacci777 no , kids these days have no clue gabriel was even in genesis let alone aware of the music he created.

  • @DaveS12382 Yeah this kid was born in 1982 so dont take his word for it. He confirmed on another video post that he didnt know about Peter until he saw Behind the Music...lol ahhahahah. Of course then he scurried on over to Wikipedia & studied up so he could portray himself as an authority which is how he operates. Most people get there music education at a younger age but he's waited until hes almost 30 to expand his horizons. Dont be mad Dave & stop with the hostility.Your friend Darth Vader.

  • @RamseyRules oh hello shadow, and you were born 5 yrs before me, congrats little cunt boy. You actually think yo're Darth Vader!!LOL!!! how fucking retarded are you you inbred queer bitch. hahahaaha

  • @DaveS12382 And by your theory, that makes me better than you. No you think im Darth Vader. Im not the one who accepts that his dads hobby of raping u is ok. Thats u...enjoy sitting down tonight huh?

  • @DaveS12382 Dont mind Gayve peeps. He gets offended when you speak of his painful existence. Gayve if you stop lying about yourself then Ill stop telling the truth about you.

  • @RamseyRules wow gay boy, you're such an obsessive compulsive loser with less than average musical knowledge, thats why you front on teenyboppers, to spew your bullshit and because you are in fact gay, shall I mention the private message you propositioned me on, you know where you asked to suck my cock faggot, you're a little queerbait, nothing more. Absolutely disgusting, you already said as a registered sex offender you could'nt leave the state, I'll call your probation officer bitch boy.

  • @DaveS12382 Thats why your mad because I have not only a higher education level but a higher musical knowledge then you ever could. Youre threatened by people who you know are better than you. Youre not equipped to deal with me in anyway, and thats what you cant stand. You can make up any imaginary insults you want but deep inside, you know the truth and the truth hurts you. Anybody can send me or post any message they want and it will post. Try posting on Gayves channle & see what happens.

  • @RamseyRules better yet why don't you just create a fourth channel dedicated to mke bitch boy, try to deny it, you're a l;ittle 35yrold pussy and thats it, end of story. Suck my dick cunt like you know you want too.

  • @DaveS12382 Its not the endof the story. IM the author and I decide when its done. Im not done toying with you. You 29 year old virgin son a nigger rapist Aids patient. Now thats the end of the story. alk away like you always do. My hand is always raised because Im always #1. Aha you hate it. Boo hoo, still mad?

  • @DaveS12382 Stop trying to kill yourself just because no real girl would have u & now youve been shotdown on here by two 17 year olds u were trying to stalk. But who am I to tell u not to kill yourself. Its obviously what u want. Im glad u finally said something to them that showed them the real Gayve...not the fake one that comes on here posting comments behind a facade. Yeah look that 1 up on wikipedia because youre on a 4th grade reading level. The worst was the begging on Hopes page. Ahahahaa

  • @RamseyRules Right, maybe I could then live with you and your family I because I know you have great knowledge and perhaps I could learn from you. I've been shut down by you time and time again here, the losses are innumerable. You use large words like "facade" and "dedicated". Its very intimidating sir. I just don't know what to do wiyh myself here, maybe I should kill myself, I've been humiliated, anyone with a brain in my position would have already cancelled their youtube account!! Oh god

  • @DaveS12382 Lol...u think dedicated is a big word. Sorry u already tried the agreeing with me tactic & it failed like all your others. Maybe u should pretend u are your sister again so I can insult u through her. U cantt learn from me because youre incapable of accepting anything other than your view. Its quite possible u have a brain but unfortunately its been infected long ago & the side effects are irreversable. Sorry, I gotta go & reply to Hopes newest Message. Ahahahahahahhahahahahahhahaha!

  • @RamseyRules HERE LIES THE DESIGNATED GRAVESITE OF ULTIMATE YOUTUBE TROLL RAMSEYRULES. ABOVE WAS THE VERY LAST COMMENT HE MADE BEFORE CLOSING HIS OWN ACCOUNT ON FEB 21, 2010 THEREFORE ADMITTING DEFEAT BY THE GREAT DAVES12382. I WIN BITCHBOY. NO MORE WILL RAMSEY SPEW FORTH HIS HATRED AND FRONT ON YOUNG TEENAGE BOYS DISHING OUT HIS "KNOWLEDGE" OF STAR WARS AND 80'S ROCK. HE WAS SHAMEFULLY EXPOSED AS THE TRUE LOSER HE IS AND KNOWING THAT HE CHOSE TO BURY HIMSELF. RIP SHITHEAD. ONCE AGAIN, I WIN.

  • Happy Birthday, Peter...Such a thick and complete album. Masterpiece!

  • "As I cuddled the porcupine, he said I had none to blame but me." Awesome.

  • i love this song one of my favourite of the lamb ...i'm italian sorry for my english if is wrong! ;)

  • Pete sounds great in all the oldies, the Lamb happens to be my fav. Love him like a brother. He is a true artiste

  • You have to hear this on a real system. The first time I heard it was on Klipschorns with a good amp. Wow just wow.

  • There's nothing I loved better than dropping a hundred mics or so on my tongue and sitting back in a comfy chair with this blasting in surround...the world dissolved into a dancing sea of molecules and painted the dark spaces of my mind.

  • After listening to this ,I really gotta find me a head set like I used to have .Koss....LOLLOL...

  • AliceCateistonedeaf.

  • GENESIS IS OF THE BEST THINGS BRITAIN HAVE GIVEN TO THE WORLD ! ITS THE ROLLS of MUSIC !

  • @yoramstein

    king crimson;the police ....

  • @yoramstein like peter gabriel genesis but nothing compares to Zeppelin

  • @gannable

    GENESIS>>>>Led Zeppelin.

  • @worldcitizengrendel YOU TAKE THAT BACK

  • @worldcitizengrendel whoa now! I think that's going a bit far. I believe the order goes Beatles > Pink Floyd > Led Zeppelin > Genesis

  • @lemonshamilton youcouldnotbemorewrong.gif

  • @NotMorning i'm watching you

  • Respond to this video... maybe my favorite genesis song - also, in a cage, supper's ready ranks up there

  • I saw GENISIS at Univ. of Toledo, OH in early spring 1974. This tune and SUPPER'S READY are my two favorites.

  • @Razzjenk You lucky dog...I saw scores of groups but never got to see them in this era...they were truly on another plane from everyone else.

GRANDIOSI !!!!

  • @zionuccio555 That's easy for you to say !

  • AS soloiststhey weree all a bit hit or miss.

Probably Gabriel and Hackett had the most interesting work and Phils drumming with Brand X but when you put these 5 together,it was like slipping into an old pair of comfortable shoes.

They just clicked as a group.

I'm sure if we said that to them, they would say otherwise.

  • 1 person wouldn't know great music if it smacked them on their cakehole....

  • I remember when I finally had the courage to admit that Yes was maybe my number 2- this was the album that made me face the truth....

  • In my top five

  • I spent many hours with this one in college. However, I can see how self-indulgent stuff like this (and others, ELP, arena rock, etc) prompted a generation of kids to turn to punk.

  • @TheClintonkid i think a new wave of music is going to come this generation. a backlash to all the shit.

  • @benlorenc My poor kids! They think autotuned vocals are the norm. I agree with you totally!

  • @TheClintonkid And whatever happened to orchestration in music Genisis Led zepplen, Earth wind and fire, Tower of power, Parlement Funakdelics and Eectric light orchestra, Pink Floyd, Emerson lake and Palmer ,YES Now that was orchestration !

  • @TheClintonkid it's all up to your kids though, like i'm 16 and i'm not going to be able to market music like this. like look at mgmt, their latest album was pretty sick, experimental and out there but all great bands are before their break through. needless to say the album sporting a 12 song track didn't sell well and they AREN'T getting much freedom on the 3rd album.

  • if you dont get peter's vibe on this .. well your lost

  • I put this ahead of The Wall.

This is my fav album of all time.

  • @Jellybeantiger A fucking genius

  • @Jellybeantiger A fucking genius. Think about It

  • @Jellybeantiger - I SO agree. While I love certain songs on The Wall (it did give us Comfortably Numb) as a whole, the story seemed to loose itself in the end. I always consider it a Roger Waters album with Gilmour and Wright as session players. The Lamb on the other hand was a collaborative project and the story holds up to the last note. I can't pick one song off this album that I like more. In this song, Banks' entry at the 4:15 mark sounds incredible on headphones!

  • @Jellybeantiger Can't do that. completely different concept albums!

  • @Jellybeantiger I believe it is also my fav album of all time

  • @Jellybeantiger

"The Wall" -as "Sgt, Pepper"- is a joke in comparation with this MASTERPIECE album, also my fav. all time (& "Discipline" by King Crimson), another dimenssion.

  • Did you know Gabriel recorded the theme song on closing credits for Pixar's "Wall-E". I think it even won a grammy for best motion picture sound track or something. After all these years, he is still cranking out very different and creative material!Unlike collins, who has gone totally pop since after Duke!

  • @bluehen111 Its not his fault, you think he had a choice?

  • Rush used to pipe in genesis music before their concerts in the mid 70's. They obviously respected Genesis, and were influenced by them.

  • @bluehen111 There is a Rush song- and I can't think of it right now- that sounds like it was inspired by Cinema Show. At least Neil's drum part is similar to Phil's.

  • @jbradshaw1 yeah, listening to hemispheres (the song) you can hear the genesis come out

  • When are they going to make this into arock opera? I thought it would have been done 36 years ago! But of course, back then they had a small but loyal following, unlike the mass market "the who's Tommy". Probably no one was willing to finance the motion picture back then!

  • @bluehen111

Well, it be honest..the whole thing is basically unfilmable. It's a very incomprehenisble and metaphysical rock opera.

  • @Dojack have you seen the wall?

  • No time for romantic escape when your flufy heart is ready for rape.

  • While Peter Gabriel was with these guys they made some the most ass-blastingly trippy stuff ever. Every time I listen to it I hear something different. There's an overarching story in every song and every album, or its just crazy random music. It's both.

  • I bought this LP more than 30 years ago and still have it and of course I still like it like the very first day....

  • pure awesomeness ;p

  • That pianissimo keyboard. Then Peter rasping "You're sitting in your comfort...." His best Genesis vocal IMO.

  • Always loved Tony's organ bridge at 3:48... true craftsmen..

  • Comment removed

  • rael!.......el primer punk

  • at 1:50- Ahhhhhhh, You say I must be crazy....! Then at 2:50: As I cuddle the porcupine..... One of my favorite albums of all time! You can hear some of the things that influenced Rush...

  • @JoeSzilagy cause I don't care, who I hit, who I hit.

  • have no idea why counting out time were the lead and only single from the lamb...

  • "...who needs illusion of love and affection, when you're out walking in the streets with your mainline connection... conneeection!"...

  • @jpiturri really happy to say... this was the song I was listening to my first time on Broadway... :D

  • " and i'm, i'm not full of shit"

  • Phil did a great job taking on the vocals for Trick of the Tail, which is still one of my favourites. Peter had already begun the journey into more "accessible" music with LLDOB (but still with integrity in tact). TOTT returned a little bit to Genesis of old. And I loved it. But then, later on, Duke amazed me, but reminded me of Peter's direction.

  • @madphilgreenballs TOTT is great, Wind and Wuthering, and And Then There Were Three are all fantastic albums.

  • seen this show in 74 at philly civic center 4 5 bucks stoned then stoned now

  • @MegaBeastj Yeah, those dammned gateway drugs! Mandrexx rules! Vesprex wasn't bad either. 4way window Paine!!!

  • This song hits you like a brick wall Love the hard edge in this song.Makes me wonder if Pete had stayed.Kick ass song that bombards you with the famed Genesis wall of sound!

  • "The Lamb" = the most under-appreciated album EVER, and easily the second greatest concept album, only behind "the Wall"

  • @Death2celebrity thing is though, the story of the wall i find a lot more appealing than this one, but each song on the lamb stands much more out on it's own. Sure you have In the Flesh? and Comfortably Numb but those are only exceptions. The rest of the album runs on three different chord sequences with almost more fillers than actual songs. That's not to say it's not an amazing album, but the lamb to me is much more memorable.
