You're thinking of the dwarf, Rumplestilskin, who promised a princess he'd spin golden thread for her if she gave him her first born. And if she guessed his name then he'd let her keep the kid. There's different version of them.

What gets me is that Wolf and Tony don't HAVE to have the magic axe.... they only need to get Virginia to the Juliet so he can cut her hair. They don't have to really trick him or anything, they just need to put her hair on the next block he's chopping. It's sooo easy and the woodsman can keep living the way he does, and Wolf doesn't have to risk his neck... literally. "Rumplestiltskin the Fourth?"
