I saw a report on the french TV which talked about this subject in particular but also all the boycott of the French products in America (Cds, DVDs, clothes, food...). The purpose of all this is to destroy the French culture. I am scandalized by what I see there. All that is false, I visited breedings of ducks and geese in the South of France, it is not at all like that.

At the beginning, there were factory people sorting the ducklings. They tossed the "rejects" into some steel chute. The birds slipped downward and through some opening. I wonder where they went and what really became of them.

a few years back i was in the burgundy region of france and visited a small scale foie farm. the man who ran the farm loved and respected all the animals there. he demonstrated the feeding technique, and when he grabbed the feed tube every single duck in the vicinity raised it's head in anticipation of being fed. when the ducks were slaughtered, every part was processed, not just the livers.

I appreciate using education to stop people from eating foie gras, but using the government to get what you want is the same as pointing a gun at someone. If you were smart you could use this opportunity to create a new market of humanely prepared foie gras for people that care about such things.

actually yes it does. Pateria de Sousa Foie gras is prepared by simply slaughtering the duck after it has voluntarily gorged itself in preparation for their winter flight south. There is obviously less of a yield, making it more expensive, but it is the answer to the problem.

This has got to be the most incredible thing I have ever seen. I personally don't care for French delicacies, but I find it amazing on how they prepare the animals. This is second best to genetic enginering.
To those who are so uptight about lowering themselves to the bottom of the food chain just so that animals can be equal to them, just go live in the woods to eat leaves and grass or whatever. Humans didn't climb to the top of the food chain to NOT eat every other thing, plant or animal.

chitwn; you arent eatin the meat of duck when you eat foie gras - foie gras is the liver of a duck or goose that has has cerossis - the part of this that is supposed to be inhumane is that they cant move, similar to veal, and are diseased so that their liver enlarges.
Frankly. i dont think its worth it.. foie gras tastes like catfood.. and essenially it is.. cat food is just livers afterall

You probably had some of this mediocre tinned foie gras produced in a factory featured in this video montage which I strongly doubt has been filmed in the south west of France - rather in Easter Europe. But you certainly have not tried the one produced in a real small farm where animals are treated in a completely different way.
Why should liver, or indeed lungs, brain, sweet breads, kidneys, etc. be cat food anyway?
