The best the playing of the orchestra, the worst, these noisy sound very unpleasant. The ear health is very important and our brain feels the same too.
@NaokoXIchimaru: Amen... The true meaning of music and the feeling is completely lost. I listen to classical all the time even with my friends in my car and they look at me so bored and just completely dumb.. The one time I even yelled at them for telling me this is boring music because they don't know what is good anymore.
@adamthaman284 As much as I agree classical music is beautiful, mind soothing and creatively inducing, you can't tell others how to act, feel, what to like, etc. It makes you seem just as ignorant and close-minded. If they were really your friends, you would respect their differences, and vice versa.
@jabariabramson: How do you figure that? I yelled at them for telling me I was dumb to listen to this kind of music. So they are the ones disrespectful. Read the comment carefully before replying dumbass.
@adamthaman284 Thanks for the dumbass comment, that's how I figured the disrespectful part.
I was agreeing this music is good but if someone called you dumb for listening to this music (what kind of friends are you making or wasting your time with) and you yelled at them, you are, in essence, a pussy.
Rather than wasting time here, you really should channel that pessimistic anger into making that great music with meaning we no longer seem to have as you claim. Either that or cure cancer.
I thank the bella lagousi Dracula film for introduicing me to such a beautiful piece, even though my primary taste in music is metal, I am a fan of several classical pieces such as this, my personal favorite being Midnight Sonatta.
The tempo has to do with the symphonic arrangement, that is why it sounds 1/8 up to imbue it with a bit more brio, when you actually hear it during a ballet performance it is a little bit more languish and dark. For me both ways always strike a cord of emotion, I love this movement, it is a shame the sound quality is not the best, you can not actually hear the mellow tones of the clarinette (because that is the actual instrument), which connects the drama to the story. :)
about 20 years ago i was watching recordings of horror movies made in 1930s, and some of them had this tune in the beginning of the movies. i loved the tune, and yet i had no idea what the name of the tune was. a couple of days ago i found clips of one of those horror movies ( dracula, 1931) on youtube, and it included the tune. i then left a comment asking for the name of the tune, and someone said that it was the theme from swan lake. then i went to this video, and there was the tune. great!!
there's really only one rule to art. the most important thing is that it must successfully convey whatever the artist intended it to. it doesn't matter what style it is, if it can't do that, then it isn't good art. period
I'm all for free expression through art because that is what art is all about; however, today we have gotten sloppy with our art. Often, "artists" will not give enough care and attention to their "art" but they get a by because they say it's "free expression." For prior generations, such excuses would be highly unacceptable. We should realize that just because we call this age a modern one does NOT mean it is OK to get sloppy. It is good to pay attention to detail and be careful in your work.
clearly you dont know very much about the world of professional music, being the principal oboeist of the new york phil is an extremely prestigious position, someone with that kind of job should NOT be making mistakes like that.
I hate it when people try to make RULES for art and say that there are things that art MUST be. If it works it works, dont matter how. Its OK If you say that you dont like how it sounds. But the technique isnt important if it sounds good, and for me it does.
you dont get it, this isnt about art, this is about technical mechanics of playing an instrument, that kind of thing would stop someone from getting job in a heartbeat, professional music making is not all about art, its about prestige and precision, the final product is art. there ARE rules, you dont know what youre talking about, go listen to some pop where if it works it works.
Theres a word for that and its called pedantic!!! You supposetly make music for the music itself and not for the technic used. You are the kind of people who would have condemnet picasso for not following the RULES!!!!
you still dont understand. picasso is art, im talking about technique behind the art, which is just as important, and its why professional orchestras are prestigous as they are. there ARE rules to play oboe, which are not artistic. im going to have to ask you to stop responding, because discussing this with you is a waste of my time.
haha wooow youre even more ingorant than i thought. im picky and precise because im in music school to be a professional musician, because its something that ALL real musicians do, its how they get good, something you clearly know nothing about. Hours of practice a day make professinals, not artistry over all else. you should really abstain from talking about things like this that you know so little about
I think you are right. I don't know much about music, since i just started playing the piano, but I know enough to realize that if there is no technique, the final product, the "art" is not complete. Technique is a very important part of art. It's not the same if, say, 50cent is singing "candy shop" while dancing valtz or rap, am I right? So you can't say if average people like it, then, who cares about the technique, especially when talking about classical music...
I agree. I think that technique is needed in order to be able to say "this is art". andynm123, do you think Beethoven, Chopin, Grieg and other famous musicians became famous for braking the rules of music, or got to the point where they were famous for having just any technique? You say technique is not important, then imagine 50cent singing "candy shop" while dancing, not rap, but, say, valtzing. Now, can you say technique is not important? I don't think so.
..Masur gives this the sweep and intensity it needs....as the strong orchestration sweeps all on earth into its midst.....this is how to play Tchaikovsky....
I have a pretty good idea of how a guitar sounds. I can imagine it being played on a guitar. There's no way that a guitar can represent a full orchestra, And there's ABSOLUTELY no way a guitar can play Tchaikovsky without sucking horribly. People like you make me sick (not the slang). You think that just because it's played on guitar, it sounds good. So ignorant. Btw, I'm only 14.
bodomchild55, it would sound like shit on guitar. If it would have sounded sick on the guitar, Tchaikovsky would have composed it that way. But he composed it for a full orchestra. That's the only way it would sound good. Any transcriptions would be a shadow of the original piece
At. 1.25 the shene ends and we enter in the meaning of composer's filosophy, where the "legni" describe the human soul, instead the "fiati" describe the destiny.
There is a war between soul and destiny, with a quick fight and a run of the soul, followed by destiny with it's power (you can hear this very easy). And at the end of the run destiny beats, beats and wins .. always wins.
Out of this, rose a remembering .. the weak song of the swan.
At the beginning the carpet of "legni" describes the wind on the water, the arp tells the drops on the surface of the lake and the oboe is the song of the swan.
That song is undescribable, I mean this is just beautiful music and I wonder how anyone can write that kind of music, because this music touches my heart
I don't think playing it in Moderato did the piece justice, they should have played it in Allegro, to better articulate the soothing piece, the clarinet has to sustain the sound and the strings add that harmony and tension, but a good performance indeed.
The violin section at 1:24 is the most haunting piece of music I can think of and is why I always come back to listen to Swan Lake.
It literally brings tears to my eyes.

Get a clue, art is what we say it is.
Some 40 year old member of the bourgoeisie thinks he is so sophisticated he can select what is art and what isn't... give me a break!
Obviously you've missed out on Duchamp or you wouldn't be making such silly comments.
And if you've missed out on that valuable lesson you should not discuss art with such elitism; you haven't a clue.
