That 'scrap' is called stainless. It won't rust. Once it is passivated, it really needs no other surface treatment unless it is to withstand continuous salt spray.
Thats an expensive piece of equipment to be treating that way. I dont envy you when you have to replace a hydrostatic pump or wheel motor. Nice mower tho, nothing better than a Dixie. I have a 20 year old dixie chopper, N4218 now repowered with a 20hp briggs and stratton from an 18 hp kohler.
