Yes, of course you can call your family. She is exaggerating. If she hates that so much, why stay there? She wants to be famous and be a star. The agencies are putting money and energy to make their dreams come true. Suck it up or quit! Choose one. Dont complain while you dont quit! Annoying girl.
@tochjo772 Why do you have to see everything as "for" or "against"? There are degrees of acceptability and various facets to one concept. This interview explores many of them.

whats the big news ?? most k pop fans already know that k pop has some western influence ~but to call k pop an avatar of american pop is just being delusional~ lol
I find it very hard to admire K-Pop. I respect the ability of the media companies to create a wildly popular groups and hits, but on their own, the acts and songs sound overly-manufactured and impersonal. Catchy? Sometimes. Good looking singers/dancers? Yes. But one can't help but feel that the songs are made for profits and little else.

What an irritating reporter. Looks like a monkey, sounds like a monkey, dresses like a monkey. And he covered Rania for Kpop wave phenomenon? Come on, there are way bigger bands who take the honour of being responsible for the Kwave, not Rania. Maybe only they are available for interview. Tsk!
@oReiBunnyo Of course I want it to change for the better but most of these idols only train for 2 years, and it's to make them ready to debut, to train their vocals, rap and blah blah.blah
you can't talk about k-pop and not mention the (though i saw their album in some point ^^) i mean hello? they're the biggest reason why k-pop is famous overseas ... and i'm not just saying cuz i'm an ELF.. i really wasn't into k-pop before but suju's sorry sorry turn me and the nation round O_O you can't deny that =) and i'm sure there is other group that are great and are spreading the k-pop wave too ^^
k pop does have some american pop influence but it sure isn't the samething lol american pop is based on mostly base while k pop is focus allot more in melody there generally very different
this was well done, and I agree with all of your points. KPOP itself has developed to become so much more like an "avatar" of American music. There is a lot less of originality now, and it seems as though companies are just trying to pump out as many Kpop groups as possible to generate profit. I don't think it works like that...and it's disgusting me. =/
Maybe if there's a k-pop backlash some rebels could make music that's art-based not commercial-based! Aren't there any ARTISTS that don't have to "train" 12hrs a day to be fitted into a commercial mold? Are there ARTISTS that have their own creativity and ideas to communicate? MJ, Prince, Madonna & others were definately pop starts but did their own thing, not some pre-programmed stuff designed by some studio agency.
@djquiz6425 and that is why i agree with the people in the video, that kpop industry will not continue to be successful in the long run. That is why there is some invisible expiration date.
Yes Kpop is is western influenced a bit but music genres like Rnb..Hiphop etc come from the black culture..and i prefer Kpop because some songs are not too sexual and the video tend to be clean unlike american pop.people like lady gaga say they different when really she has copied what Japanese popstars have been doing for years and I don't mean the raunchy videos I mean her fashion...to be a smart independent woman you dont have to take your clothes off look at Adele she great!!..P.S BIG BANG!!
YG will always be my bias, but I actually like all the other grps too from various companies. SK's entertainment business is HUGE, and I'm glad to be apart of it.
Another thing the korean wave does not just rely on kpop. if it did it would not have gotten as far. kdramas and kmovies play a big part in the wave. it actually started with dramas and not music.
There is a bad side and good side to every industry. plus it kind of annoyed me that they kept using yg entertainment clips after every negative point they made because yg probably has the most creativity and freedom. Their idols produce their music like bigbang or atleast help in the process like 2ne1 with teddy. or they even have artists that arent idols like gummy psy and tablo.
Aljazerra counden't get a interview with real k pop agencies lol~ they had to go with Rania's agency~ although i like "Rania" i think there agaency only excest to cash in from the current hanryu wave and i think the only reason head of Rania company agreed to do the interview with AiJazirra was because probly AiJazirra told him this will give Rania international exposure he wants soo badlylol~
@DaebakSama You're wrong, what makes u think idols don't even dare fighting for their consequences, what about JYJ? SM is the only company that mistreats their artists unlike YG and JYP that treat their idols fairly and take care of them.
@kjpopfan2 yeah because t.o.p was so stressed up during his trainee days. okay yg probably is fairer... but jyp? we all know min's runaway story, sunmi's getting stressed out in wg's us venture, and no one really know what happen behind jay park-jyp case. fair enough? care enough? oh yeah... sure.
@oReiBunnyo Not all companies force idols or whatever, just because SM is knows for their slave cotrcats doesn't mean all companies are like that, there are good entertainment companies like SM and JYP for example, they support their artists.
@kjpopfan2 Kpop companies are notoriously unfair and that's an undeniable fact. I'm not saying this because I hate the industry but it needs to improve. If you truly are a kpop fan you should support changing the industry for the better. The big flaw is that these companies train kids for years and when they finally do debut at first they are mainly working to offset the cost of the training. A system like that is not fair, especially as many of these groups aren't going to last for very long
COMPOSERS COMPOSE MUSIC, SINGERS TAKE THAT AN SING, THERE IS CONTRACTS LIKE IN ANY LEGAL HUMAN ACTIVITY.... SO WHY SO MUCH BITCHING ABOUT KPOP??? PERHAPS TOO MUCH HATERS...
Wow plastic surgery in Korea is really cheap. No wonder lots of people go there to get plastic surgery. Lol at looking like your favorite celebrity, that's why they all look the same.
This is why I have so much respect for JYJ breaking away from their slave contract and going on to successfully produce their own music. I hope the whole K-pop industry reforms itself to give artists a fairer deal and to promote creativity and individuality rather than vomiting out carbon-copy, barely talented idols. Until that time comes I'm sticking to K-Indie/traditional music.
@oReiBunnyo All pop music around the world is like that, composers make songs and singers sing, there is contracts. So your bashing about vomiting carbon copy is an insult, stupid fuck.
wow~ AlJazerra is really bashing k pop everyway imaginable :9 lol i mean k pop has been around since the early 90's since the days of 'barbie brown' but i don't see AlJazerra giving credit to k pop ~ and i don't think is right to lable k pop as "fake" just because it has some western influence lol
con't...Saying that productions comp. are more money oriented than entertainment agencies it's not really true, because the biggest ent agencies in Korea are also stock owners, they own productions companies, and other businesses, too. Look carefully, at how many ent-agencies have their stocks traded on the stock market in Korea. We, as fans should not for a minute be concerned by the well being of a ent-agency as long as we are not assured of the well being of their artists/idols.
con't. The entertainment agencies knows very well that they take advantage of their artists, and consequently, they take advantage of us, fans, by making us believe that the artists are well taken care of. They are not, and the more, K-pop becomes global, the more these issues are going to be unveiled. Why? Because even though these practices may be acceptable and business as usual in Korea, they are not acceptable by the global community. We look at things like human rights, and such.
No, it's not acceptable, and it's not a natural progression of the industry to treat your artists/ idols like mere disposable products. They can't compare the way contracts are made enforced in Korea with they way contracts are made in USA, because in Korea the artists do not have a fair and just legal representation. Artists/idols do not even dare to fight for their rights of fear of consequences.
So basically they have no talent but are groomed so much that it appears that they have talent
in essence huge wannabe Nsync and BSB who actually have talent and dont look retarded in the process of doing they do. So Asia stick to what you know, technology leave the music to America and Europe we know that shit.
@markieman999 they aren't "groomed," they're trained. most of these people work harder everyday than you will in a week and believe it or not, they have a fanbase around the world that is exponentially growing.
did you know that just a few decades ago, samsung was considered a cheap ripoff of sony? now it's the world'st largest electronics company and is continuing to innovate. korea is simply applying their business model to music; if you don't like it, pay no mind to it.
@yurkler yes trained because of lack of talent and Sony will still be more know and better quality anyways back to music I dont pay attention to this i just came by it and laughed at it cause take away there plastic surgery looks and expensive clothes and autotuned voices there nothing BSB the artist that there basing there genre off have real talent and simply are way better than these asian ripped cord dolls
@yurkler oh yes they do receive vocal training but intially they have strong talent and BSB has been suceesfull all around the world for close to 2 decades and still going here in north america no one even gives a rats ass about kpop no one cause no one understands a fucking word and ive been listening to music for years so i think i know a thing or two about talent
@markieman999 the people who become idols aren't randomly picked... they have to beat thousands of others in audtions. backstreet boys is now irrelevant, most of the population thinks they disbanded years ago as did nsync.kpop is popular and becoming moreso... why do you think this documentary exists?
"i've been listening to music for years"-- so has everyone else. you're just a racist troll that can't argue and spends his time making beats that no one listens to... nice life.
but do listen almost every genre of music in multiple languages and actually understand what they are saying
listen to music from diffirent parts of the world
also from different decades
in essence are you not just obessed with one genre and can actually have an valid opinion based on knowledge from dozens of genres and from hundreds of artists
basically i know music and you are obsessed with an genre thats all about the money and fashion
@yurkler and for your sake just stop replying your embarrassing your self cause really just like the millions of bieber fans no matter what your gonna love your doll face artists
so please do reply but i wont say anything cause i have better things to do, capiche?
@markieman999 who are you to say that i don't listen to a diverse range of music? or that i am obsessed with kpop? i am simply defending kpop as a whole because there are some talented artists whom you choose to ignore. you're the one embarrassing yourself with xenophobic and ignorant attacks.
i'm glad you won't reply (or so you say). now you can go back to masterfully crafting your shitty beats that your own mother wouldn't listen to. capiche?
@yurkler well im lauging my ass over here so one more for good old sake
you realize i live in Canada one of the most multicutural countries and that my parents are both foreigners and that I speak 3 languages so calling me xenophobic is basically useless cause it dont make sense
and for your information cause my music fuck like I take it seriously cause i know im not that good and dont have the time to actually spend to get better so I just do it for heck of it
@markieman999 look who it is again. i see your word means nothing.
i don't care where you live, if you bash music on the basis that you can't understand it, that shows signs of racism/xenophobia. stop acting like you have a superior sense of good music. i've listened to a couple of a your beats; you've managed to create fucking antiflow.
@yurkler what Markieman999 is trying to say is that most non-Asian do not find Korean pop unique enough to appreciate despite cultural and language differences. Many people do not understand foreign songs like Dragonstea Din Tei (Numa Numa) or Danza Kuduro, but they see something a lot more unique and talented in their songs. If Americans and Canadians are going to appreciate Korean pop, Korean artists are going to need to work a lot harder to make themselves stand out.
@likemikey93 i disagree that kpop needs to become more different from american pop to increase in popularity. it is already doing very well because it fulfills a niche market that is interested in pop songs with dancing and high visual appeal. k-pop is still pop after all... if you want soul, listen to r&b etc.
no matter what kpop is or becomes, there will be people who enjoy it and others who hate it... that's just the nature of music in general.
@yurkler I don't know where you are from, but in places like the US or Canada, you'd have to be Asian, or at least close friends with an Asian to know what Korean pop even is. I mean I live in Toronto, but in areas outside of big cities like my own, the knowledge of pop is almost non-existent. Interesting how you mentioned Korean pop serving its niche market, because as I said, its niche market is and will forever be the Orient. Not to say that the Orient isn't a bad market either,
@likemikey93 you think the intended goal of kpop was to penetrate the american market? kpop was originally formed for the domestic market, but in the past decade it has spread internationally. even now, its focus is not on america, but on the world as a whole. while it isn't mainstream outside of asia, it definitely has its fanbase in nearly every country. it's a lucraditve business that is expanding with exposure. sometime soon, kpop may be as well known as anime/manga from japan.
@yurkler I will tell you guys one thing. If there are any Korean songs that could stand out as distinctly Korean, it would be much older Korean pop songs like Swallow by Kim Gun Mo. It is simply a song that cannot be matched by American bubblegum pop artists.
@yurkler kid just stop this i dont like this music cuz it lacks passion and love for music its just about money so seriously just stop cuz ur just wasting time
and actually i love Asians i got Asian friends i just dont love most of K-pop or J-pop
but some like Wedding dress by Teayag (how ever you spell his name) cuz in that i can sense passion and real talent but thats it and that my opinion
@markieman999 i'm going overboard by arguing against a grossly generalized attack on an entire genre of music? if your don't want your artist within to be slandered, maybe you shouldn't christen yourself has a music authority next time.
@markieman999 nsync and bsb DONT look retarded doing wat they do? HA! thats funnny ur joking rite? i've seen their mvs, they look RIDICULOUS and r they still together? nsync isnt, and sure bsb still r, but most of the kpop groups going rite now, who r at the HEIGHT of their popularity have NEVER borken up, at the most theyve only taken a yr hiatus, and most groups do that in between albums anyways :P
@markieman999 PLUS the fact that Big Bang, another kpop group won best world act over BRITNEY SPEARS in november at the MTV EMAs, so kpop isnt big? HA yeah rite :P and Super Junior was #7 on the world billboard charts, snsd was #2, still think kpop isnt popular? then u can go on being the ignorant while there r so mny facts showing kpop is getting more and more popular, and if the american CEOs didnt see potential in kpop, teennick woldn't hav give the Wonder Girls a movie now would they?
@Nikki11080 OH a movie wow reminds me of Justin Bieber or Jonas Brothers who have talent but where and are there just for wealth just like all K-pop j-pop wtf u wanna call it
and yes bsb and nsync did once look retarded but was called the 90's everyone looked like that it was the norm
and just because someone is on the charts doesnt mean the good great example Bieber, Gaga all fucked up artitsts that are just there for the money nothing more
Then in that case, as a Canadian who can think quite similarly to an American, may I ask, how can you call bands like Super Junior distinct from Backstreet Boys? To be quite honest there is nothing distinctly Korean in bands like Super Junior. At least the Japanese incorporate some traditional Japanese elements into their pop acts. That is why Japan has been able to successfully penetrate the American market as sub sets of their cartoons long before the Koreans.
I guess they couldnt get another group, but I don't like the focus on Rania. They're not even that international or big on the scene; a lot of other groups usually have native English, Mandarin, etc speakers and a more distinct image. Kinda presented the wrong "typical" image here.

Tsk!

this was well done, and I agree with all of your points.

Another thing the korean wave does not just rely on kpop. if it did it would not have gotten as far. kdramas and kmovies play a big part in the wave. it actually started with dramas and not music.
zainlovesmusic 1 month ago

SM is the only company that mistreats their artists unlike YG and JYP that treat their idols fairly and take care of them.
kjpopfan2 1 month ago
@kjpopfan2 yeah because t.o.p was so stressed up during his trainee days. okay yg probably is fairer... but jyp? we all know min's runaway story, sunmi's getting stressed out in wg's us venture, and no one really know what happen behind jay park-jyp case. fair enough? care enough? oh yeah... sure.
noidreamers 1 month ago
@oReiBunnyo Not all companies force idols or whatever, just because SM is knows for their slave cotrcats doesn't mean all companies are like that, there are good entertainment companies like SM and JYP for example, they support their artists.
kjpopfan2 1 month ago
@kjpopfan2 Kpop companies are notoriously unfair and that's an undeniable fact. I'm not saying this because I hate the industry but it needs to improve. If you truly are a kpop fan you should support changing the industry for the better. The big flaw is that these companies train kids for years and when they finally do debut at first they are mainly working to offset the cost of the training. A system like that is not fair, especially as many of these groups aren't going to last for very long

This is why I have so much respect for JYJ breaking away from their slave contract and going on to successfully produce their own music. I hope the whole K-pop industry reforms itself to give artists a fairer deal and to promote creativity and individuality rather than vomiting out carbon-copy, barely talented idols. Until that time comes I'm sticking to K-Indie/traditional music.

con't...Saying that productions comp. are more money oriented than entertainment agencies it's not really true, because the biggest ent agencies in Korea are also stock owners, they own productions companies, and other businesses, too. Look carefully, at how many ent-agencies have their stocks traded on the stock market in Korea. We, as fans should not for a minute be concerned by the well being of a ent-agency as long as we are not assured of the well being of their artists/idols.
DaebakSama 1 month ago

So Asia stick to what you know, technology leave the music to America and Europe we know that shit.
markieman999 1 month ago
@markieman999 they aren't "groomed," they're trained. most of these people work harder everyday than you will in a week and believe it or not, they have a fanbase around the world that is exponentially growing.
did you know that just a few decades ago, samsung was considered a cheap ripoff of sony? now it's the world'st largest electronics company and is continuing to innovate. korea is simply applying their business model to music; if you don't like it, pay no mind to it.
yurkler 1 month ago
@yurkler yes trained because of lack of talent and Sony will still be more know and better quality anyways back to music I dont pay attention to this i just came by it and laughed at it cause take away there plastic surgery looks and expensive clothes and autotuned voices there nothing BSB the artist that there basing there genre off have real talent and simply are way better than these asian ripped cord dolls
markieman999 1 month ago
@markieman999
1) sony has been dwarfed by samsung (it now operates on an income loss). i don't see your point in defending it.
2) american singers receive vocal training as well. so did your precious backstreet boys at some point.
3) you're generalizing the use of autotune to every kpop song, which you have no right to do since you, "dont pay attention to this."
4) who made you the arbiter of identyfing "real talent?"
just write your beats in your basement instead of trolling.
yurkler 1 month ago

"i've been listening to music for years"-- so has everyone else. you're just a racist troll that can't argue and spends his time making beats that no one listens to... nice life.
yurkler 1 month ago
@yurkler yes everyone does listen to music
but do listen almost every genre of music in multiple languages and actually understand what they are saying
listen to music from diffirent parts of the world
also from different decades
in essence are you not just obessed with one genre and can actually have an valid opinion based on knowledge from dozens of genres and from hundreds of artists
basically i know music and you are obsessed with an genre thats all about the money and fashion

@yurkler and for your sake just stop replying your embarrassing your self cause really just like the millions of bieber fans no matter what your gonna love your doll face artists

markieman999 1 month ago
@markieman999 who are you to say that i don't listen to a diverse range of music? or that i am obsessed with kpop? i am simply defending kpop as a whole because there are some talented artists whom you choose to ignore. you're the one embarrassing yourself with xenophobic and ignorant attacks.
i'm glad you won't reply (or so you say). now you can go back to masterfully crafting your shitty beats that your own mother wouldn't listen to. capiche?
yurkler 1 month ago
@yurkler well im lauging my ass over here so one more for good old sake
you realize i live in Canada one of the most multicutural countries and that my parents are both foreigners and that I speak 3 languages so calling me xenophobic is basically useless cause it dont make sense
and for your information cause my music fuck like I take it seriously cause i know im not that good and dont have the time to actually spend to get better so I just do it for heck of it
now im finished bye bitch
markieman999 1 month ago
@markieman999 look who it is again. i see your word means nothing.
i don't care where you live, if you bash music on the basis that you can't understand it, that shows signs of racism/xenophobia. stop acting like you have a superior sense of good music. i've listened to a couple of a your beats; you've managed to create fucking antiflow.
yurkler 1 month ago
@yurkler what Markieman999 is trying to say is that most non-Asian do not find Korean pop unique enough to appreciate despite cultural and language differences. Many people do not understand foreign songs like Dragonstea Din Tei (Numa Numa) or Danza Kuduro, but they see something a lot more unique and talented in their songs. If Americans and Canadians are going to appreciate Korean pop, Korean artists are going to need to work a lot harder to make themselves stand out.
likemikey93 1 month ago
@likemikey93 i disagree that kpop needs to become more different from american pop to increase in popularity. it is already doing very well because it fulfills a niche market that is interested in pop songs with dancing and high visual appeal. k-pop is still pop after all... if you want soul, listen to r&b etc.
no matter what kpop is or becomes, there will be people who enjoy it and others who hate it... that's just the nature of music in general.
yurkler 1 month ago
@yurkler I don't know where you are from, but in places like the US or Canada, you'd have to be Asian, or at least close friends with an Asian to know what Korean pop even is. I mean I live in Toronto, but in areas outside of big cities like my own, the knowledge of pop is almost non-existent. Interesting how you mentioned Korean pop serving its niche market, because as I said, its niche market is and will forever be the Orient. Not to say that the Orient isn't a bad market either,
likemikey93 1 month ago
@yurkler just saying that Korean pop will never reach its intended goal of penetrating the American market.
likemikey93 1 month ago
@likemikey93 you think the intended goal of kpop was to penetrate the american market? kpop was originally formed for the domestic market, but in the past decade it has spread internationally. even now, its focus is not on america, but on the world as a whole. while it isn't mainstream outside of asia, it definitely has its fanbase in nearly every country. it's a lucraditve business that is expanding with exposure. sometime soon, kpop may be as well known as anime/manga from japan.
yurkler 1 month ago
@yurkler Well I am only responding to the notion that Korean pop has potential to obtain success in North America.
likemikey93 1 month ago
@yurkler as long as it continues to follow down the same trend that it has been doing for a very long time.
likemikey93 1 month ago
@yurkler I will tell you guys one thing. If there are any Korean songs that could stand out as distinctly Korean, it would be much older Korean pop songs like Swallow by Kim Gun Mo. It is simply a song that cannot be matched by American bubblegum pop artists.
likemikey93 1 month ago
@yurkler kid just stop this i dont like this music cuz it lacks passion and love for music its just about money so seriously just stop cuz ur just wasting time
and actually i love Asians i got Asian friends i just dont love most of K-pop or J-pop
but some like Wedding dress by Teayag (how ever you spell his name) cuz in that i can sense passion and real talent but thats it and that my opinion
so just stop cuz really you're going overboard
markieman999 1 month ago
@markieman999 i'm going overboard by arguing against a grossly generalized attack on an entire genre of music? if your don't want your artist within to be slandered, maybe you shouldn't christen yourself has a music authority next time.
yurkler 1 month ago
@markieman999 nsync and bsb DONT look retarded doing wat they do? HA! thats funnny ur joking rite? i've seen their mvs, they look RIDICULOUS and r they still together? nsync isnt, and sure bsb still r, but most of the kpop groups going rite now, who r at the HEIGHT of their popularity have NEVER borken up, at the most theyve only taken a yr hiatus, and most groups do that in between albums anyways :P
Nikki11080 1 month ago
@markieman999 PLUS the fact that Big Bang, another kpop group won best world act over BRITNEY SPEARS in november at the MTV EMAs, so kpop isnt big? HA yeah rite :P and Super Junior was #7 on the world billboard charts, snsd was #2, still think kpop isnt popular? then u can go on being the ignorant while there r so mny facts showing kpop is getting more and more popular, and if the american CEOs didnt see potential in kpop, teennick woldn't hav give the Wonder Girls a movie now would they?
Nikki11080 1 month ago
@Nikki11080 OH a movie wow reminds me of Justin Bieber or Jonas Brothers who have talent but where and are there just for wealth just like all K-pop j-pop wtf u wanna call it
and yes bsb and nsync did once look retarded but was called the 90's everyone looked like that it was the norm
and just because someone is on the charts doesnt mean the good great example Bieber, Gaga all fucked up artitsts that are just there for the money nothing more
markieman999 1 month ago
Then in that case, as a Canadian who can think quite similarly to an American, may I ask, how can you call bands like Super Junior distinct from Backstreet Boys? To be quite honest there is nothing distinctly Korean in bands like Super Junior. At least the Japanese incorporate some traditional Japanese elements into their pop acts. That is why Japan has been able to successfully penetrate the American market as sub sets of their cartoons long before the Koreans.
likemikey93 1 month ago
I guess they couldnt get another group, but I don't like the focus on Rania. They're not even that international or big on the scene; a lot of other groups usually have native English, Mandarin, etc speakers and a more distinct image. Kinda presented the wrong "typical" image here.
