Barbaro means that we should play, categorise and understaind piano as percussion instrument like Bartok use to, and Stravinsky too. Stravinsky said once after great meal with Arthur Rubinstein: "Piano is a percussion instrument and nothing else" ..... "Everyone was wrong" .. "I'm sure that new music will allocate piano in right place"(free translate, Arthur Rubinstein "My young years")
Way back when, Pleyel pianos had a much lighter touch making most of the tempo markings on Bartok pieces more difficult to adapt to modern pianos. The etudes, for instance, are more difficult than they would be when played on a piano in Bartok's day, and some people feel the tempo should be adjusted accordingly.
Good interpretation. I would suggest to give more attention to ff's, because thy are aureal sections. Because this piece is mathemathically based, it shoul be treated in a different way.
In my opinion, this is one of the most youthful, energetic, true to Bartok's original intention, certainly even *more* true to the rebellious attitude that always goes along with this sort of counter to your prime critic, and as such quite likely the most evocative interpretation I've heard of any piano piece in awhile. Kudos.
Bartok's music i find irrelevant, unless you are begining the study of the instrument and you enjoy the sound of his children peices. This is my exception: I love Allegro Barbaro by Bartok.
wow! mozart's music simple? maybe u only listened some simple pieces for piano, but try for example his las symphony "Jupiter", or his requiem. Believe me: that's not simple!
Well, to me Mozart's music seems all the same (IMO he never brought in some new ideas to his works), and this also applies to the "Jupiter" symphony. But that's my opinion. However, the "Requiem" is, as you said, somewhat different.
if you want to hear complex music from mozart you should read the partiture of some of his operas like don giovanni or cossi fan tutte the acompaniament of the arias duos etc are very rich in contrapunct treatment ;in this field (opera) his music its absolutely superlative
@Shmoofles i am a bartok lover! my piano teacher made me play one of his songs and was really surprised that I liked him! she didn't like him though, so i never got another one... =(
though i find taking the repeating chords at such a great height provides a sound thats too harsh. It could be percussive but with harshnses removed..
Is it just me, or does the flaming red hair somehow add to the effect? Not that the performance by itself wasn't awesome. I'm really excited to start learning this piece...

bartok's music is one of the best in de 20th century, you only have to listen more to get used to it.

Well, everyone has a own taste; I myself would say that Mozart's music is much too simple to be in any way innovative.
Anyway, he likes the Allegro barbaro, and in this context this is what matters.
