  • great... congrats for the pianist...

  • If you like this, check out the Emerson Lake and Palmer song "Barbarian". It's based on this song.

  • lol! the beginning is so dramatic!

  • Bartok swings like hell

  • it's good when you see the player actually enjoyed his playing.

  • @Ingot49 no shit sherlock its bartok. If u learn like the beginning bar u learn like what 20 bars already

  • Barbaro means that we should play, categorise and understaind piano as percussion instrument like Bartok use to, and Stravinsky too. Stravinsky said once after great meal with Arthur Rubinstein: "Piano is a percussion instrument and nothing else" ..... "Everyone was wrong" .. "I'm sure that new music will allocate piano in right place"(free translate, Arthur Rubinstein "My young years")

  • WONDERFUL piece. The symphonic band at my school is playing this piece for contest in March. Wish us luck! :)

  • This sounds like death metal.

  • @Sm1thers1boy oh trVE

  • @Sm1thers1boy /watch?v=zcvokzt1uc0

  • i hate when people sit so hunched over!

  • Direct anyone that says classical music is boring right here.

  • That was playing bartok!!

  • Bartok: the marmite of composers.

  • This is a sound recording, on which played Bartok.

  • its cant christophers performance. Its Bartók's performance

  • Incredible octaves.

  • Excellent interpretation.

  • I'm learning this right now! It's unlike anything I've ever played, musically.

Any advice on learning or performing this piece? :)

  • maravilhosa!

  • This piece truly deserves the 'barbaro' in its title--such energy! But the piano in the video sounds oddly muffled?

  • i have to say, i really like the energy you put in it =]

and I like the way you "dance" hahaha.

it was just fun to watch.

  • interperation was like, amazing xP

  • That was amazing. First time I heard something by Bartók Béla also. What a fantastic piece!

  • What a technique!

  • wonderfull, I loved it, bartok is a very hard composer, but you hit the right spot !

  • omg 2.22 is really cool

  • man... 2:22 is insane.....

  • Good interpretation. I would suggest to give more attention to ff's, because thy are aureal sections. Because this piece is mathemathically based, it shoul be treated in a different way.

    Good Technique :D

  • ooooo, i REALLY like how you play this piece! ur performance of allegro barbaro is now my fav

  • Let me remind you that difficult music isn't necessarily good music.

  • There are more musical idea in Bartok's Allegro Barbaro then Alkans...

  • This is profound. Thank you for sharing this.

  • In my opinion, this is one of the most youthful, energetic, true to Bartok's original intention, certainly even *more* true to the rebellious attitude that always goes along with this sort of counter to your prime critic, and as such quite likely the most evocative interpretation I've heard of any piano piece in awhile. Kudos.

  • Es divertidísimo tocar esta obra, y en cuanto a saltos de mano y tiene una complejidad alucinante!.

Translation: It's a funnyest experience playing this score.Jump's hand has a high difficult!

    Congratulations, si señor.

  • this is awesome ! well-played...

  • love your interpretation

  • Bartok is pretty cool...i love this piece its so unique much better than the usual pieces by Beethoven or the like...

  • i really like this interpetation. Maybe i will start to learn this piece:)

  • bartok's music is one of the best in de 20th century, you only have to listen more to get used to it.

  • Well, everyone has a own taste; I myself would say that Mozart's music is much too simple to be in any way innovative.

Anyway, he likes the Allegro barbaro, and in this context this is what matters.

  • wow! mozart's music simple? maybe u only listened some simple pieces for piano, but try for example his las symphony "Jupiter", or his requiem. Believe me: that's not simple!

  • Well, to me Mozart's music seems all the same (IMO he never brought in some new ideas to his works), and this also applies to the "Jupiter" symphony. But that's my opinion. However, the "Requiem" is, as you said, somewhat different.

  • if you want to hear complex music from mozart you should read the partiture of some of his operas like don giovanni or cossi fan tutte the acompaniament of the arias duos etc are very rich in contrapunct treatment ;in this field (opera) his music its absolutely superlative

  • Actually, i think this is very easy to listen..genious construction..synthesis of lots of elements..but still puts his own special spice.

  • This is awesome.

  • Emerson, Lake & Palmer did great job on this :)

  • Well, I think their cover is somewhat sluggish. No match for the speed and spirit of the original piece.

  • Tallented, and he knows the way of bartok

  • marry me hah

  • Csúcs! Nagyon köszönöm!

  • its okay but not the best of bartok, or is it!!?

  • thats just bartoks style, u either like it or u hate it. personally i think bartok was amazing.

  • @Shmoofles i am a bartok lover! my piano teacher made me play one of his songs and was really surprised that I liked him! she didn't like him though, so i never got another one... =(

  • @Shmoofles well i think people who hate it are barbarians :P

  • WooooooooooW!

  • Wow. Great nuances and use of pedal. I really enjoyed the sudden dry subito fortes. I'll have to work this piece up. Bravo

  • Harsh? It has been told that Bartok's music was too barbaric, therefore he compose this "parody" to satisfy the critics. It has to be "harsh"...

  • :D Amazing!!!

  • awesome!

  • working on it atm..

though i find taking the repeating chords at such a great height provides a sound thats too harsh. It could be percussive but with harshnses removed..

though ther est of is great!

  • Nice octaves scale!

  • Very nice indeed, greetings from Hungary /Allegro Barbaro

  • richtig gut!!!! neue einblicke.

  • Excellent

  • Behold thy impressive virtuosity! Bravo!

  • Remarkable performance in every way. Loved it. Chris, post more of youself performing.

  • OMG AWESOME it looked you were going in hyper-speed!

  • awesome!!!!!!

  • Sparate sul pianista !!! Interpretazione Straordinaria !!! Qual'é il suo nome ???

  • Is it just me, or does the flaming red hair somehow add to the effect? Not that the performance by itself wasn't awesome. I'm really excited to start learning this piece...

  • This an real Hungarian composer, Béla Bartók composed it!!!:)

  • What are you talking about?

This is a classic of Bartok's piano works.

  • This piece is definitely by Bartok. I played an arrangement of it for band and his name was right at the top as the composer.

  • This piece is definitely by Bartok. I played an arrangement of it for band and his name was right at the top as the composer.
