This is such a beautiful idea. Using music as a way to bring peace in this area is brilliant. They make a good point when the man mentions that a way to start change in a society is through children. Not only do they gain a wider perspective of things, but their participation in Orpheus invites their family members to get involved as well. However, I do wonder how much of the Palestinian population in Israel is able to access this program, for example are there fees, qualifications, and so on?
I'm so happy to see ways of using western culture for these cultures own benefit in a creative manner and as a way of influenceing it back! This is a clever way of remowing the power relation between west and east and placing yourself on equal levels, as it should be. This gives me hope for a peaceful future.
israel darling wasn't exist , what was exist there is israeli group , it was exist in egypt, and the origin of palestine is ken3ani and phoenix civilization which is exist before israeli cowards groups, which is my origin kenaani palestinian now . and promis we will be back soon
I enjoyed watching this video about Orpheus because of their ability to reach out to the youth through music education. I especially found that the words "communication, connection, and appreciation" to inspiring to the youth to be brave and to take action. I found it refreshing to hear students speak, especially play different instruments, to get a point across that this simple act of picking up an instrument can have such an effect on the local and international level
Orpheus is great way for the the people of Nazareth. Through the introduction of classical music they have been able to open their society. They spoke how Orpheus has given them the ability to learn classical music which no longer keeps them detached from the Western world. Before the introduction of Orpheus they were to politcally focused that they stopped being creative. I think is great through music they are able to find ways to change their society and give themselves hope.
I love this. Orpheus sounds like an amazing gift to the Arab people in Nazareth. Music can define and change a culture or society in many ways. For a people under oprression for so long it is a great way to gain understanding and to be heard by the international and local community. Hope through music... beautiful! The children sound great and Edward Said is just brilliant!
One woman pointed out that Palestinians had to neglect their creative side in the face of so much conflict. This is a great way to get some of that back as well as foster cooperation between Israelis and Palestinians.
Okay so I'm kind upset with Mr Duaibis now a little.. I was at school where he taught and I just find out about Orpheus NOW!! 2 years after I've graduated?!?!?! I woulda LOVED to be part of that choir!! WTH?! SO unfair!!
Great idea using art, music, and creativity to overcome ethnic/racial division. I can understand Palestinians learning Western musical forms, but certainly children with Jewish backgrounds would also do well to learn Arabic musical traditions.
Greater understanding and mutual respect can be fostered through increased cultural exchange.
Sorry guys. Archeological evidence shows Jews lived in the ME for 3200 years, at least 1,000 years prior to tribes that called themselves "Muslims." Isreal exists because Jews were there. They didn't steal any land from anyone. Arabs already occupy and control nearly 98% of the ME. That's enough.
I agree - shame on avivbn. All you have to do is look at an old map, or read an old encyclopedia or even the bible to see that there has ALWAYS been a Palestine and Palestinian people. They were the ones to whom Jesus decided to appear. Maybe this is part of cause of the Israeli hatred of them.
Palestine? wtf is that? I haven't heard of such STATE or KINGDOM. don't forget Palestinians only started calling themselves so after they were sorely beat by Israel in one of their wars ("Arrg, we lost... hmm OCCUPATION!! We're palestinians! the land was ours"... STFU *punch*). You think rasicm works only one way but you're wrong... look at your post you shmock.
aviv. go and fuck your mom then you will have children have the same mind as you .brush your teeth next time befor u post here because i can still smell you filt .fuck israel
Idiot, if it was Palestine, they'd have no wooden chairs, no Piano and no electricity in their house. Israel gave 'em all that. now do you see how perfectly well Israel gets along with it's arab people? now those who resist get their ass kicked. (The Palestinians you're so crying about)
