Jack DeJohnette was another jazz drummer who was very proficient on piano. Check out "Eiderdown" on "Cosmic Chicken" (1975). Billy Cobham plays piano on some of his earlier material, and so does Lenny White. Gary has tours where he is only playing virtuoso piano.
Please, please keep him away from any guitars!

Gary is a shinning example of how important it is for a drummer to have at least a basic background in keyboard and music theory.

saw Gary for the first time about 27 years ago with the great Allan Holdsworth group with Jeff Clyne on bass in Leicesters art centre.
another great British musician mixing with the greats.
