Ah, the feeling when I first heard it way back in 1981...almost a religious experience.

  • Inspiring and spiritual composition, great for introspection and meditation

  • Popol Vuh it is the sacred book of the Mayas, it was written in ancient Maya-quiche language from the North of Guatemala. When the Mayas existed 2000 years ago the empire ocuppied some part of what today is Mexico, Guatemala, honduras and El Salvador. Pop vuh it is sacred book that was translated into Spanish by the priest Francisco Ximenez and it was found in the city of Sta. Cruz del Quiche. I am Maya-quiche decentent .

  • @timoteocurruchiche thanks very much for explenation, honour to contact ...

  • this sky....immortality music

  • I love Popol Vuh!

  • I agree with you in what you say, peterandres18, except that I think people already have to be open minded to listen to this kind of music. people who's not open for example: new things, will put this kind of music away. Not everyone of corse, I don't say thats its any rules for it, but it's just my view on it! :) A really good tought thogh! If more people thought like you, world would be more happy! :o) peace and love and lots of hugs for everyone! :D:D <3

  • beautiful

  • This piece strikes me as profound, powerful, and deeply moving in its simplicity and it touches the deepest part of my soul. If more people listened to Popol Vuh, I think they would develop a deeper understanding with the inspirational, spiritual, and relaxing elements of life.

  • I completely argee with that!

  • you are totally right

please excuse me i take off a good point without intention. i will repair it soon

  • This has to be one of my favourite Popol Vuh songs. I heard it on Fitzcaraldo and just had to have it. It is so... wonderful. Awe-inspiring is the word I'm looking for

  • Oriental???

  • i think popol vuh take as a model the antique music of Oriental countries like India and they add more elements of the progressive space and art rock but i´t to strange the music but at the same time it´s very interesting

  • i might be mistaken but "khorazin" is supposed to be a region of the middle east- afghanistan, i believe- where the islamic mahdi will come from.

  • Khorazin - also spelled Korazin and Chorazin - is in Galilee, not Afghanistan, and has nothing to do with Islam. It is a town in Galilee that was condemned by Christ in the Gospel of Matthew: "Woe to you, Korazin!...If the miracles performed in you had been performed in Sodom, they would have repented long ago...But I tell you, it will be more bearable to be Sodom on the day of judgment..." (Matthew 11:21-24)

The "Wehe, wehe, Koharzin," in the song is the "Woe to you Korazin!" of the Gospel.

  • thanks for the information.

i do think that think the islamic traditions contain mentions of a region with a similar name, though i could be wrong- words from two semetic languages could have a similar ring.

  • Veruschka is perfect as the messiah

  • and how!

  • I like this! what style of music? chanting maybe? and what are they saying?

  • The music is by the German group Popol Vuh, who were active mainly in the '70's. They worked a lot with film director Werner Herzog to create his soundtracks. Search YouTube 'Aguirre' for more of their work with Herzog.

  • There's more: search YouTube 'Veruschka Transfigurations work of art' for a clip of this remarkably creative team in action.

  • Danke schoen, she looks even more beautiful without beard ;-)

  • Haha! Graag gedaan, diangle. Yes, most ladies do...

  • hey i have a copy of veruschka on vhs but don't know anything about it and it doesn't have any subtitles.

    what do you know?

  • Hi sjofarthotellet2. Not sure what to add other than what I've already posted here below about Veruschka. Since you don't mention what the video is, I'm guessing it might be the documentary about the making of Trans-figurations, which I know in a French-speaking version. I speak Dutch, but that's the limit of my European languages! Maybe if you could be more specific?

  • Hi diangle - you mention Vera Lehndorff played the Messiah. That figures, but I wonder if you know the connection? Lehndorff's professional name is Veruschka - the model in Antonioni's film 'Blow-up'. Veruschka went on to make a book with her creative partner, photographer Holger Trülzsch, called 'Trans-figurations', and Trülsch was also a member of - you guessed it - Popol Vuh! I've been listening to their music for some 30 years - thanks for posting the clips! Much enjoyed.

  • Thanks a lot for sharing this info with us :-)

  • Thank you, it's awesome !!

  • tremendous !

it's music like this that deserves the epithet 'awesome'.

  • Fitzcarraldo!
