  • wait say that again did you say some kind of fee or white property holders above the age of 30 didnt that happen already

  • its not a democracy even the pledge(which is VERY nationalist) i pledge allegance to the flag of the united states of america and to the REPUBLIC for which i stands...

  • Lol at the people who think this video is for real. They're the ones who shouldn't vote.

  • LOVE THIS, parody of that other news story knockin young voters

  • @Tyrant60 well the fact is, wether someone is old or young, if they want to vote they should know basic civics. Stossel was right to go after the whole "Vote or Die" crowd because telling people to vote, even if they don't know what the fuck is going on is how you get idiots like Obama in office.

  • This vid kicks ass. I bet younger people actually know more of this stuff than the baby boomers. Sorry to say. And I know this video is a joke, but... for real, older people might want to consider not voting sometimes... if they are the kind who don't give a crap about the future because they will be dead soon. (Or the kind who are afraid of all brown people and try to hide it behind "issues"...)

  • I watching this because John Stossel talked about it on his show.

  • Comment removed

  • Im voting none of the above this election. Im going to ask for a write in and write in none of the above. Why not? Will it really make a difference if I vote for anyone else? Vote none of the above!

  • so obviously the reporter was mocking John Stossel but didn't try too hard to do it differently than Stossel's video.

The majority of the eligible, registered voting population are rather clueless on political affairs so self education is foremost regardless of age.

  • No, you should definitely vote. But if so, then you have a civic duty to INFORM YOURSELF.

  • Literacy test... what a ridiculous idea. What will the conditions be? "Who are these people in the political demopublicans"? What is Say's Law? What is a negative right? Who was Hayek? Who was Proudhon?

What you chose there will sort out who can and can not vote.

The way to solve the problem is to remove it, get away with democracy, replace it with volountary interactions. Democracy is 51% of the people electing leaders, the market is a 100% of the people.

  • Oh fuck yes. I lol'd so hard.

  • lol

  • if it wasn't for voting they would have a hard time keeping the sheep in line

  • Freakin' IDIOTS! This IS NOT A DEMOCRACY! WE are a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC! you hear that?! Constitutional Republic.

  • @kelborn24 This is not a constitutional republic this is a fascist government ran by the richest people in the world. The corporations run everything. There is no United States anymore we live in the North American Union.

  • @jrhd00d84 agreed with that one. we stopped becoming a republic when the federal reserve control our government.

  • you can say what you want...the fact is we all get to vote...so votes COUNT for something!!

  • @kelborn24 What they teach you in school is its a democratic republic but your more on

  • @kelborn24 constitutional democratic republic run on capitalism

  • That was the original point of the ELECTORAL COLLEGE. People would vote for "electors" from each state equal to the number of representatves that they have from each state. The problem today is that the names of the candidates who the electors promis to vote for is shown on the ballot, instead of the actual electors, who the founding fathers intended to be the most respectable and inteligent people from that state.

  • I think the direct election of leaders is important but democracy is just one part of the mix, free speech, checks and balances and an armed citizenry who can defend or destroy the US government are equally important. And, I don't buy the if you don't vote don't complain rhetoric.

  • @Knoss But democracy is NOT the form of USA Government! Rather it is a democratic republic (or federal republic). It is not democracy. (Our founding fathers did not trust a government run by "the people").

  • @ticks4ticks4 I agree. I think it is a tool of responsible governemtn but democracy is not responsible government.

  • I voted, and I never learned to color. Plus I blindfolded myself flailed my arms over my head spun in circles and whoever got marked, I'm not really sure, but I feel allot better about myself now.

Declairing who can and cannot vote is descrimination no matter how you look at it; smart, dumb, def, blind, fat, thin, male, female, black, white, and all/any of the above... It's my choice to sribble anywhere I want on that pamplet.... and if I can, everyone should be allowed too.

  • not really. People can make themselves less stupid. Why should we let people vote if they don't know anything about politics? They should have to take some kind of test.

  • True, but to say that you must vote to those who would not do so otherwise is perhaps a disservice. I think thats what John Stossel was trying to argue.

  • Voting makes people feel important (like me...lol). The electoral college's votes count so -shrugs-. . . if you miss out, don't beat yourself up.

    -exits stage-

  • it was intended and assumend when the framers gave the right to vote, that the entire country would remain political. that is simply not the case. mandatroy testing on issues should occur to ensure that retards don't vote!

  • If you don't care enough to know a/b the issues & how gov't works, why would you want to vote?

I don't care how old you are. If you don't know what's going on, DON'T FREAKIN VOTE! I'm so SICK of people having a laissez faire attitude a/b politics, then showing up on election day. I took at least 500 hrs this year to closely analyze the candidates & their ideologies. Voting effects all of us so don't do it if you don't know what you're voting for. Why's it so politically incorrect to say that?

  • I agree that people should educate themselves before voting. But suppose we divide the nation into four groups; educated democrats and republicans, and uneducated. Now suppose that almost all republicans vote, and almost all educated people vote. Clearly, even if the democrats represent more people, they will be at a disadvantage. With voting, if some uneducated people participate then all uneducated have to participate, or else it all falls apart.

  • Premier~I see your point but I think this is crazy ideology. Instead of convincing uneducated people NOT to vote, we work toward enrolling EVERYONE so people who don't care enough a/b history & gov't & other countries & what kind of gov't they have & whether it is working well for them, we insist that everyone votes.

Don't you see a little bit of insanity to that way of thinking? Thomas Jefferson didn't want the general public voting for this reason. Not that I agree, but it makes more sense.

  • being that obama won the election proves that over 50% of the voters are ignorant of the issues at hand.

  • Its a Representative Democracy.

  • Are you sure it's not a Constitutional Republic?

  • no it's not

  • The United States is not a Democracy... It is a Republic....

  • back in the day, they only wanted land owners to vote. some thinks that elite. However, if you look at the down fall of democracy in history being because of poor fiscal policy and the people voting for those who will give to much to back to the people, right or not, you may see where they are coming from.

  • The problem is with the "Corporate Controlled Media"..something that is in the hands of the few...I have known many people that did not even know people like Nader,Baldwin,McKinney,Barr and others where running. And they had NO CLUE ON THE ISSUES!!!

  • Mos Def...stuff white people like, yay!!

  • Although I hate him, alexander hamilton warned us of an ignorant population voting...you get a century of 2 party systems...

  • haha are you like 200 some years old???

  • pffff, "what is the bill of rights?" Man i'm canadian and i could name a few and their numbers.

  • MOS DEF!!

  • The worst thing about voting is this stupid habit of voting for the lesser of two evils, in the vain attempt to keep the greater of two evils out of office. Your single vote can only do that if the margin of victory is one vote. Won't happen. Instead, only vote for candidates who rise to your standards. Leave the race blank if both candidates suck, as both Obama and McCain do. Or vote third party if that best matches your views. You'll feel better as a result. That's all your vote can do.

  • I'm a Libertarian voting for Barack Obama just because McCain/Palin scare the shit out of me. It sucks that there are only two parties in this country that can get above the 5 percent mark. Our forefathers didn't want a two party system, sadly it happened anyway

  • Your individual vote can not keep McCain out of office. The electoral votes for your state will almost certainly go to one candidate or the other regardless of how you vote. This sets you free to vote your conscience. If your values are really libertarian, then your vote for Obama sends the wrong message. The LP will be around for decades. Don't you want to hasten the day when they are viable? This is a much more positive reason to vote than trying to beat McCain, which your vote can't do.

  • freesk8 your completely right about the system man people need to vote in what their personal intentions and beliefs are or the country will never progress. That is why i have never voted. I need someone i believe in first.

  • Thanks, man.

I've heard it said: "Don't vote. It only encourages them!"

I almost never vote for incumbents, or any candidate whom I guess is about to win by a large margin. Why make them think they have a mandate to do whatever they like?

I find myself on the losing side of most votes. But who wants to find oneself siding with the average voter? That's mediocrity.

I choose to vote because I am a minarchist, and support the minimal government the Constitution outlines.

  • @freesk8 Then vote for Ron Paul and other Libertarian candidates.

  • This same thing goes for young people

  • BREAKING NEWS. The Dems already picked the

    OFFICIAL SONG FOR OBAMAs INAUGURATION:

    Obama-So help me god. (watch?v=c4f5noeDZdc

  • I hate election day, and I hate people who get pissed when you dont vote, I wont because its pointless when the popular vote doesn't count and the electoral college is the ultimate outcome of who wins and they are free to choose who they want even though they say they are influenced by the popular vote, just look at the election between gore and bush, gore won the popular but bush won the electoral and oh look who became president

  • Democracy? Since when in our country's history have we been a democracy?

  • good point we are a republic, but we do have certain parts of our system that have a representative democracy...democracy implies the people vote NOT through a representative

  • I don't think you have to know all that stuff just to understand today's situation and know what the candidates are supporting. To me, that's like having to know what photosynthesis is to become a web designer.

  • wtf photosynthesis has nothing to do with the web that is the worst analogy ive ever heard

  • That's my point.

  • but u do need to know a little so what i would have put is u dont need to know how to design a web page to turn a computer on that would make more sence to me

  • It's the old reverse psychology tactic.

  • hahaha, i love how you made the black guy look smart to not seem racist, and the whole thing about white, male, landowners only voting,

    good video 5 stars

  • our government is so concerned that everyone gets a voice that they made election day during the week when everyone is working.

  • Election day is always on the first Tuesday in November after the first Monday.

  • Amusing video in response to Stossel's report on 20/20 a few weeks ago, but it does miss one important point. Stossel does not favor any regulations to prevent anyone from voting -- his point is just that if one doesn't understand the issues, then perhaps it's best if they choose not to vote rather than making an uneducated choice. Ultimately, each person needs to make this decision for themselves.

  • Proposed voter test

    1)What was the Keating scandal?

2)Why did we fight in Viet Nam

    3)WHo is Bill Ayers

4)Recite one quote of Jeremiah Wright

    6)MLK belonged to which party

    7)America is a a)democracy b)republic

    8)Who is John Galt

  • Here's a list of people who should not be voting.

    1. Homeless people.

    2. Anyone sucking the government tit.

    3. Anyone who didn't pay any income tax in the prior year.

If you're a parasite you should not have the right to vote. Producers and only producers should have a say in who our elected officials are.

  • Warmagus...hmmm that's a really republican thing to say! Let's see, according to your logic, "Joe the plumber" is on the list of who should not be voting. He's got a lien on his property and owes over $3,000 in back taxes. Let's think before we comment shall we? Republican President= four more years of HELL!!!

  • elm241,

I don't know WTH you're talking about, and I suspect you don't either. Joe the plumber is a plumber, IE a producer. I can practically guarantee you he payed income tax the prior year.

  • Warmagus,what do you mean....?

  • This was a very funny video, unfortunately the same can be said about an awful lot of young people out there too!

  • As if young people could do any better, retard! And those people aren't even old, you wet convoluted butthole.

  • Definitley good vid. I agree. It's kinda like people before only voted for Bush because of ONE thing....gay rights!

Honestly if you're just voting for one thing like that...there's no point in you voting.

    Good vid.

  • Funny that this has more views than the original. If people actually considered the fact that a vote is a way of affecting the lives of others, they would hesitate to do so in ignorance. Principled non-voting is nothing to be scoffed at.

  • Non-voting is like letting everyone else around you make up your mind for you...it is in essence the most thoughtless thing you could possibly do in such an historical election! Please go vote, even if you write your own name in the ballot--then at least you could participate! People have given their lives so that you could have this opportunity! What an ungrateful bag of bones!!!

  • Not voting is cool, as long as you are doing because you do not support the current system people in place and PLAN (keyword) on changing it, be it by any means.

This is what you should do vote but do a write in like Pope Benidict the 7th, or satan, or god, or youtube starwars kid. Whatever the point is that you show-up but make the point you can't support any of those people.

Now if you wanted to make a difference vote for any third party possible.

  • Actually, I voted immediately after early voting became available. And, as a matter of fact, I believe that voting is an essential means of controlling the government and insuring that it does what is supposed to. However, principled non-voting is completely respectable. Those who choose not to vote are, in effect, refusing to endorse the system. By not participating, they are refusing to recognize the government's legitimacy to rule them. A non-vote is a vote of no confidence and I respect that

  • Maybe they don't care who wins and don't want to do something when they could do something else. I'm not disagreeing, I'm just open minded on as many sides as possible.

  • know what?

I know alot of younger people who think there are 13 states, not 5 year olds, like 18 year olds.

alot of older people have been throught many of the U.S.'s struggling years. I'm not saying that old people are better, but i think all votes should count

  • I would like to be like Barak Obama. Becouse his wife he have is very sexy. A very sexy black woman.

  • I love the last line "Democracy works better when everyone participates"

So why only have 100 senators? Only 1 president? Only 9 supreme court justices?

Why not have everyone vote on every singe issue? Oh, because our founders actually used their brains and realized that not everyone actually does. Or more mildly, not everyone had the capacity to understand complex issues, therefore they settled on a representative democracy.

But this girl apparently knows better than the founders.

  • mos deeef

  • it's not funny. some people should not vote.

  • Not only the middle east, but Africa, Islamic names reign commonly. Also, you people ranting of Islam, Middle Eastern, and Arabic insults on Obama- Jesus Christ wasn't born in the West, you ignorant sonsabitches. THAT'S RIGHT, your religion comes from the SAME REGION. Now go do research before you whine and throw spineless remarks.

  • you're ignorant....hussein is as common of a name in the middle east as john is in the US...and you dont see every man with the middle name of john blowing up buildings (see Theodore John Kaczynski)

  • Oh yes he is, get over that.

  • Folks should check out the John Stossel video, the piece to which this video responds.

And obviously, it's meant to be fun.

  • Ahh, Tom Michaels, my Ayn Rand loving, Stossel-dittohead friend...

The point of the parody video is not that these older voters are stupid...but that with a camera and editor catching people on the spot, it's easy to make them look that way.

Stossel offers no thoughts to increase the education or knowledge of voters. Indeed, reducing the culture of participation would make our electorate LESS informed.

His purpose is electoral. He's not a journalist.

  • Excellent parody.

  • lol "who is that... a street person!"

:( silly old people and their gobble necks

  • Mos Def rocks, your stanky grandma is a street person trick

  • look up howard stern's questions in Harlem

  • That's in Portland Oregon.

    Mos Def FTW!

  • Fail.

  • Is this supposed to be a "rebuttal" to the Stossel video? (Some certainly seem to think it is.)

Because if anything, it simply bolsters his larger point: Americans are woefully uninformed about politics and principles. And the notion that voting is a virtue, in and of itself, is mindless and misguided.

Democracy isn't the highest virtue. It wasn't intended to be America's heart and soul, the way some now conceive. Liberty was. There's nothing sacred about voting for the sake of voting.

  • lol LOVE LOVE LOVE this vid! A nice change from making the kids look stupid. Stupidity does not discriminate. Most def!

  • hallelujah praise our Lord and savior amen!

  • And obviously this video is meant to be humorous.

  • JUST FUCK OFF

  • MOS DEF! haha. how can you not know him? lmao.

  • LOL at the people that think this is real! This is a joke. Made to be funny. peace

  • Three thoughts:

    1) The street interviews are real. The blonde guy was being sarcastic. The people who didn't know stuff really didn't know stuff.

    2) Watch the related Stossel video; this responds to that. The point isn't that people are stupid; the point is it's easy to make them look stupid (as Stossel did).

    3) More participation smartens the electorate. We need to build the culture of civic involvement & education. Shortly: Democracy works better when more people do it.

  • I think it's really sad that some people do not know what the Bill of Rights is, but there is absolutely no reason whatsoever for an American citizen not to know how many states there are in our country. This video makes one wish that America will become more informed before voting...

  • The government should maybe offer political science 101 free and available to all citizens and permanent residents!!!!!! It is a must for one to know the minimum of laws and a basic understanding of the constitution of the US.

  • The Government does offer Political Science classes... In every public school.

Did that man really think that only white men should vote?

  • that wouldn't be fair. you see if we start testing voters for intelligence republicans won't even have a chance.

  • FAKE

  • This video is a good example of the logical fallacy known as a red herring. It also sets up a good strawman or two.

Watch the original video again, then you might see why this video is useless.

  • the wisest? Isn't that why we have an electorial college?

  • If only we could be so lucky. Next best alternative is educating everyone, but good luck with that!

  • i wrote a paper on this recently. i agree, i think there are quite a lot of people who just shouldn't vote.

  • on what grounds should a registered voter not be allowed to vote? on competence? intellect? how do you qualify who should have their say? a vote is an expresed opinion, how dare people say old people should not have this right?

  • pssh i wasn't saying they shouldn't have the right, i was just saying we'd all probably be better off if they didn't. surely you can agree, just from watching this video?

  • ONLY 1 Black guy.......SHAME!!!!

  • man down, i repeat man down!!!!!

  • AAAARRRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OMG!!!!!!!

    my computer is dying!!!!

    their haxoring me to death!!!!!!

  • Wow.

    I lol'd at this vid.

There is TOTALLY NO POINT IN VOTING if you don't even know what the Bill of Rights are.

    OMFG.

  • i'm being haxord by you-tube!!!!!

  • stfu.

  • i'm not sure if i should laugh or cry.

  • i was hacked!!!!! "Error while updating your Channel"

  • Did folks check out the Stossel video that this is a response to? Both videos should be sent to a lot of people. And Stossel should be canned (not just for this).

  • i was hacked!!!

  • True, and a totally failed one at that. There's no reason to have a constituional republic when your bill of "rights" are completely overlooked. I find it funny and pathetic. I like laughing. End.

  • stupid people elect stupid leaders, thats the beauty of democracy, and why america is reviled around the world. thank your parents for imbuing you with the ability to know whats going on.

  • thats fukd up they asked her do you know who this is n showd her a picture of mos def a black person n she said he looks like a street person.

  • ummm, who gives a shit? This video is a joke lol.

  • maybe it was but that bitch loox serious

  • Moooosss deffffff

  • you can play this same scenario out on a college campus ... its a bunch of illiterate college students ... even Bush was a C student

  • funny vid but i think you got a good point there.

  • mos def.

  • What a great video. Did everyone watch the stupid Stossel video? This video is the pitch-perfect response to that one.

  • In my opinion, politics should be made much less complicated for "regular" people to understand it better. All these complications and also the complicated language of politics, it's put there for a reason. Dicsussing whether or not only the "wisest among us" should be the only ones to vote, seems to me, like a sign that the so called "Big Brother" society took one step closer to us. This is just my opinion, I'm not critizising anybody elses. Thanks for reading.

  • ...

  • The older ill people need to vote for the right healthcare plan so they get better and cheaper. I can take the "smartest" person in the world and make him look like an idiot in 1 minute. Knowing facts is a good thing, but you have to unwisely accept all the policies of the party you vote for by default. Can't have everything exactly the way you want it...maby a dollar less, maby a dollar more.

  • Obama scandal revealed!!!

    Check the video on:Obama citizenship

    NOW!!!

  • thank you! lol soo tru!! lol

it was funnt though how only the black guy knew who mos def was lol

why the fuck would he be showing these old white people a random guy on the streeet and ask for hes name wtf

  • you cant restrict who votes

    against fundamental beliefs of democracy

    dont take these videos seriously

  • i loved this; too funny

  • To all the people who think this video is meant seriously...maybe you truly are too dumb to vote? Nah. You're pretty dumb, but not that dumb. Go vote. But please understand that this was meant as humour at the expense of those who actually believes that.

  • This discussion highlights the problem of bi-partisan politics. The system was designed to divide to rule and while everyone is distracted by the arguments they (the politicians) are busy moving the goalposts to protect their business interests.

  • voting is stupid.

  • the people who Do vote in these sham elections are the people who have helped get us where we are. So after they participate in the process regardless of how they vote, they are legitimizing the the outcome, they go on & say if U didn't vote U have no say. WTF? Those who vote should have no say. They got us here. They legitimize these elitest vs. elitest elections! 4 what? don't participate in making things worse by giving these idiotic lawyers a mandate by voting 4 them. THEY DONT CARE ABOUT U.

  • It's honestly hard to take someone seriously when they replace the word 'you' with the letter 'U', and try to use all caps for emphasis.

  • stupid video by dumb republican. I don't care. All I need to be is a citizen to vote.

    So shut up!!

  • Wow!!!!!!

  • 1) Yes it is a joke, hence the mustache

    2) The Mos Def bit is a joke, maybe a hit at how because he's black or he's hooded he's "street" (I'm kind of reaching for that one... maybe)

    3) There was no "random senator" the only Senator he brought up is Joe Biden, the VP candidate. Ginsberg is a Supreme Court Justice, there are only 9 of them, and they hold a very important position in the government. It might be nice to know them.

That being said, funny, a little twisted, but makes very good point.

  • Point taken about the Senator vs. SC Justice. But my point was that they are trying to define peoples intelligence based on their ablity to recognize a person in a picture. Maybe what this video should talk about is how voting is pointless if the real decision truly comes down to the electoral college vote in your state. Maybe how this financial crisis isnt because of "banks" but rather one bank: the "Central Bank". I am off topic but these vids never focus on the real problems in this nation.

  • point taken on the faults of government and the election process; however, the point in being able to recognize a Justice isn't about intelligence, but about how informed you are. The point of the video isn't to say that you shouldn't vote, but instead to be educated and knowledgeable about what you are voting for.

  • Agreed.

  • Wow this is a joke. Somebody shouldnt be allowed to vote because they dont recognize mos def or some random senator by picture? Are these people serious????

  • well the reason i am not voting is because i dont think i am knowledgable enough about both candidates to make that choice...i hope young people aren't just voting based on race/gender, and gossip....some will....

  • This video is racist against white people and the elderly.

  • Okay somebody has to say it.. a lot of McCain's supporters are old, and white so it's not about racism we just know the majority of people who are going to vote for him.

  • I totally agree with this video.

  • Great Video! Should def be promoted by youtube! Needs like a milli views

  • Ladies and Gentlemen... Children of all ages!... 911thegreathoax will now perform for you "The Rant of the Angry Virgin"!

  • Great video. John Stossel (the guy who made the ideo this is responding to) is such an idiot.

  • lol, this is hilarious.

  • MOS DEF!

  • think what u like mate .....its my opinon and i stand by what i have said

  • theres a reason its called "the white house".

  • I dont agree with that statement, but I must admit that got a chuckle out of me, lol.
