  • do you have to use a round brush?

  • you are a fantastic! I wish we still lived in times where women did their hair like this! (although my grandma says she was thanking god everyday after the 70s for not having to) lol!

  • I might try this. I want to feel feminine without looking too girly lol.

  • Such a vintage hair style! Definitely going to try it. And I have that same top too, but in a muted amethyst colour. :)

  • It is so hard to find good vintage hair tutorials, yours are lovely, im planning my wedding to be all vintage and you've helped me decide on how im going to have my hair. Keep making them!! :) x

  • best video ever!!! i've been looking everywhere for a pageboy hairstyle and i was like duh of course you would know! i've been subscribed for awhile don't know why i didn't think to look under your videos :p please make more videos i miss you!

  • Where do you get the tool that you used to part your hair with? Do you need to use that or can you just use a hairbrush? How long does this style take on average, also? I may wear it to school and I'm normally pressed for time (lol) :) Thank you! Lovely hairstyle!

  • @Splee331 she used a rat tail comb. you can get it at any store like walmart or drugstore.its just a comb with a long thing piece on the end. you could use something else straight if you dont have one, a pen or something would work just to give you a straight part. hope this helps

  • Wow, my grandmother has pictures of herself and friends in this hairstyle up and down her walls! I wonder what she'll say when I show up with hair like this! :)

  • i dont know y everyone doesnt like these songs i like them'

  • I still can't believe she has a son she looks so young lol

  • I love your style :) the clothes you wear in these tutorials, i want them all :) i love the fact you have such a finished look all over :)

  • Your outfits are to die for.. I'm loving the whole vintage vibe.. <3<3<3

  • I watched almost all of your videos and find them really helpful, awesome and all but I have to admit I have to kinda skip big parts because the music makes me cringe... no offence. You still make amazing videos!

  • @foreseen Well, I do my best! these songs are created from my heart and no, I am not perfect... but I can honestly say that everything I do, I accomplish by myself.

  • @StrawberryKoiVintage I like the music. :)

  • @Areida77 Awe, why thank you so much :))

  • @foreseen I love the music!~

  • Thank you for the tutorial!! I've been trying to figure out how to do it for quite some time now; I'm so glad to finally know how it's done =D

  • you are really great!

  • hey thanks so much for putting this up, I had problems doing pageboy before as I didn't realise it was more about combing than curling patterns.

    thanks again! xxx

  • Great work I do a finger wave set on the sides of my hair and a pin curl set with the rest of my long hair, i get the same look too :)

  • i cut my hair specially for hair like this!!! it's shorter at the front and longer at the back, so i don't have to worry about leaving the front till last or anything!!! THIS IS SO AMAZING!!! LOVE IT, LOVE YOU, THANK YOUUUUU!!

  • @polkadotpolka123 Awe, thank you! I'm so happy you enjoyed the video, I bet you look beautiful in your new do! :))

  • i love how you explain things! makes everything so much easier! <3

AND I HAVE THAT SAME SHIRT! LOL!

  • thank you for posting this! I really love the 40's and 50's looks and I've been looking for this particular style since seeing it on Cold Case :D however, my hair is at a length a good few inches below my shoulders - do you think this style would still work with longer hair? thank you again xx <3

  • As-long as it's just below your shoulders, I think you have a good chance at the hair not being too heavy... it should curl up quite a bit, and rest just at your shoulders :)

  • what is the book called that you use for the pageboy picture?

  • I'm not sure where it came from... I found it online :)

  • thanks for the reply! I will be trying this very soon. I have grown my hair out from a bob and I've been kinda stuck... Have you heard of the book

Vintage Hairstyling: Retro Styles with Step-by-Step Techniques? I am picking it up very soon.

  • I have heard of it! It looks marvelous, I am also quite interested :))

  • This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for! I'm a theatre actress and do alot of 40's/50's plays and have been trying to find an exact way to do this. Thank you so much! My hair is considerably longer than this, but I'm hoping this will still work, and I am definitely thinking of doing the snood for an upcoming role. I'm so happy to have found this!

  • Thank you! So glad to have helped :))

  • Oh what a lovely tutorial. Perfect for what I'm wanting. One question though, do you have dry or damp hair before you put the pin curls in?

  • Thank you! Oh, and just *slightly* damp is just right! Too wet and they take forever to dry, too dry the pin-curls wont be as strong and wont last as long :)

  • This is great! Ever since I got into the Fallout series, I've really wanted to emulate some of the 40s hairstyles....this one seems like a good start, and I don't have to put up my hair for the final style! Thank you thank you!

  • That's awesome! Good luck :D

  • So pretty!

  • My mother had a much shorter version of this hairstyle starting in 1950-51. The Page Boy hair style became all the rage in the early-to-mid 1950s. Prior to that, she had a Pompadour hair style.

This hair style really works for you, as it brings out your natural beauty. I have to admit that you are very beautiful to start with, but this hair style is like a cake with frosting, complete with a homerun at the ballpark.

  • mm =) I'd actually doubled checked it just to make sure I'm wrong..haha Kristin is half Dutch and Chinese and you're half German and Japanese..that made it clear =)

  • Grr I try looking for vintage clothing but yours generally fit you better and are more cute lol.

  • Sometimes it's rough, that's why I tend to do a lot of internet shopping :)

  • I love the result ;)

You actually remind me of Kristine Kreuk I alsmot think you're her sister or something =)

  • That's awesome, she is so much prettier than some of the other girls I get compared to, haha! :P

  • Comment removed

  • Is there an alternitive that works just as well as the pin curls?

  • Sorry for the late reply! Pin curls have such strong hold, so nothing really compares... but if your hair curls well, you can use pretty much any curling method to do a very soft pageboy, although it will not last as long....

    Thanks for watching!

  • what a beautiful charming girl

  • You did great job!

    You have lovely hair :)

    -Henry

  • Thank you ^_^

  • Great video! What does "stemming up" on the diagram mean?

  • It means the curl goes up from the part of the hair to lend more volume to that part of the style.

  • haha, what she said. Thanks for getting to this question for me, I get backed up with things to answer sometimes :)

  • I understand. Feel free to do the same for me if I don't get to a question that you see. :)

  • Absolutely gorgeous! Cannot wait to try this.

Also... Where did you get your top?! It is fabulous. I love that style but seldom find clothes that match it. :-(

  • It's actually from Charlotte Russe! :) I was very surprised seeing it there, myself... it's very 1940's.

  • Wow! I am surprised too, thank you! I will have to browse through there a little more carefully next time to look for good finds like that!

  • Love It! That was wonderful! Although I have shorter hair about an inch above my shoulders, will this style still work? Thanks!

    *Subscribed

  • Sorry for the answer delay! Yes, it will still work... it will just be at a much higher level :)

  • i love your shirt!

  • Hey Aya, does this hairstyle work for hair that is longer than yours? My hair is about 6 inches longer, and layered.

  • Oh yes, it will work! :) It may have a tendency to come apart and turn back into ringlets, because of the stress from hanging lower on the back... and of course, it will have a different look as compared to mine, but it will be very pretty in its own way ^_^

  • I absolutely love this style, but any tips on how I might make it work on thick, just below shoulder length hair that is already naturally curly/wavy? I'd love to do this style more often but my hair type makes it really difficult!

  • That does sounds tough... and it's a little difficult for me to have the perfect solution. Perhaps straightening with a flat iron, and THEN pin curling your hair (either set for several hours in the morning with a light water spritz, or set damp overnight).

  • I thought that might work :) I'll give it a go - it's such a pain, having my hair and trying to do these styles - though it's perfect for your retro sexy bed hair style :)

  • You're so beautiful! I love your vintage style, you're so brave to be unique!

    Thanks for all your videos!

  • Thank you so much! ^_^

  • The pageboy look always looks neat and soft. In my town, it was very popular with girls and women from the late 1940s through most of the mid 1950s. By the mid-50s, longer hair became much more popular with girls in my school. The longer pony tailed look was preparing us for the long hair needed for the teased hair look of the 1960s. A few of my girl friends went way, way overboard with huge, high hair for our senior prom in 1962. I remember my mom telling me they looked ridiculous.

  • Heehee, that's a fun story :D

  • Hi, I was wondering how long does this hairstyle usually hold for? I am going to an event pretty soon and I would love to do my hair like this.

  • It usually lasts it's strongest, for one whole day... but even after I sleep on it, I can still get a more relaxed pageboy up to two more days :)

  • Thanks a bunch ! :D

  • i love this vid!! the way you styled you bangs looks really cute!

  • You're beautiful!

  • i to love vintage and i think all your videos are great they are very helpful thank you!

  • And thank you!! ^_^

  • Hey, I just got who you reminded me with that hairstyle and the white hair net: Scarlett O'Hara in the kissing scene with Rhett, after Frank Kennedy's death!

... Ok, ok, now I'll go in the corner and I'll be quiet.

  • haha, Well Scarlett O'Hara was a very pretty woman, so I will take that as a compliment :)

  • Well, I never heard anyone who took being compared to Vivien leigh as an offence! xD

... Unless it was a boy.

  • Im a huge fan of ur blog! Ur a lovely girl and so kind for spend ur time teaching us about hairstyle! I'll try it just right now!

    Kisses from Brazil!

  • if you have naturally curly hair, do you need to do pin-curls? thanks!

  • Most likely you will have a difficult time making natural curls take form of the Pageboy hairstyle... But if you have super, super kinky hair, I suggest trying it anyway... with some strong-holding product, of course.

  • dang thats jive!!! cutie!!!

  • this is amazingly simple ! thanks so much

  • Great, I'm so glad ^_^

  • ugh I am having such a hard time with this one. I usually do my hair with pin curls but I am still trying to learn how to brush the curls out and shape them by brushing against my hand like LisaFreemontStreet has in her tutorial, but I can't get it to work. And this hairstyle is difficult for me, any simple tips?

  • The way Lisa brushes out her hair is a method for bringing out fluff and volume, which was very popular throughout the 40's for many hairstyles...

But for this particular hairstyle, you want the curl to remain solid.

  • When I start to brush out the curls, I only do it for a few strokes, before I get right into the "winding" motion of the brushing... which is *key* to this hairstyle.

You also needn't brush the top layers, except lightly to get rid of frizz... but stay mostly at the underneath layer, winding and shaping the curl :)

  • That is so elegant. I can see wearing it everyday or dressing it up with something sparkly.

  • Thank you, and definitely! ^_^

  • I keep meaning to try this look! I love it, well done!

  • Thanks so much! You'll love it, once you do it! :)

  • Thanks for uploading this tutorial, I've been trying for ages to recreat this style, the video has helped loads :)

  • Great! Glad to help ^_^

  • wow. I have always wondered how to do that. Thank you so much for these videos! I was so excited to happen upon them.

  • You are very welcome! ^-^ Thank you for the support!!!

  • SO GORGEOUS! I'm in love - I'll try this tonight!

  • Good luck! This is my FAVORITE hairstyle, you might end up wearing it all the time like me! hehe :P

  • OMG--

I didn't know they made that exact shirt (like the one in white) in grey.

    It's soooo cute.

I am so happy I found your videos. Everything is awesome. You are awesome.

  • I always go to bed with pincurls and a hairnat lately (my family think I'm crazy, but I love them! XD), and I tried to do that style several times yet, because I really like how it turns out on you... But, although I comb them in the right shape and work on it with a round brush, after a while, my hair roll up in funny vertical 'Marie-Antoinette-like' ringlets. Where am I mistaken? ^_^

  • Thank you! My family teases me too... haha :P

My hair eventually does that too, it's just the curls coming apart. I usually just keep my curling brush in my purse and go to the bathroom to mend the curls back into the Page-boy style :)

  • Ha ha, I swear, I thought about doing that, too!

I was sure it was a fanatical idea - but if you do that, then I feel entitled to! XDD

Thanks for your answer, I was starting to believe my hair had some odd anarchic tendency...

(Oh, and I meant "hair net" instead of hairnat, of course: mine is an old nylon cheap one, where did you find yours? I like it!)

  • I actually got mine off of eBay :) I'm a big online shopper... lol =^^=

  • StrawberryKoiVintage

you are a knockout ! a real cutey!

  • Aww, thanks! =^_^=

  • WTF how do know all this, I'm a dude and I never notice that girls hair looks fascinating, I usually look at their boobs.. =P

  • AHAHA! Well, I have always been very creative with my hair...^_^;

  • what kind of products would you suggest for a curlier hair texture for this like aa hair?

  • Hello StrawberryKoiVintage. I've been to the store and I bought what I think might be the Fructis hair Putty, but I'm not sure if it is, because in Spain it has a name in Spanish. There is other Fructis hair product that is more like a wax, and I was in doubt. The one I bougth is not as thick as the word putty ("pasta" in Spanish) may suggest i has more the consistecy of a yogourt but is more like a gel, a thick gel. Could it be what you use?

  • hi! The putty I use is rather yogurt-like, and is very sticky. When I run my fingers through it, it "strings" from the jar!

I would suggest experimenting with it, but I do want to say that my next video will be about pin-curls and I will be discussing the putty which I use... so you will see the consistency :)

  • Yes, then I think i bought the right one. When I touch the product and I lift the finger, it forms threads like melted mozzarela does in a pizza that has just come out of the oven.

I'm looking fordward to your new video which will be specially interesting for me, well, like all of your videos are, but this one just a little bit more.

I apreciate very much all your help and your kindness. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • Great! I wish my hair could keep the curly shape like yours does. Mine goes back to straight in an hour or so.

  • hmm... sounds like your hair can be pretty stubborn! Do you use pin-curls as well? Perhaps more product is needed?

  • The problem is not achieving the curls, I get pretty curls when I do then, but making them last. I'm using an spray gel from Pantene that is special for creating curls, maybe it doesn' work stong enough, I may have to try a mouse, any suggestion?

  • Yes, I would definitely experiment with different products. This style really calls for some "HE-MAN" hold , LOL

When I set my hair in pin-curls, I use a "Garnier Fructis Style Hair Putty" and it holds the curl so well, I do not even need to spray my hair with hairspray when I am done styling!

  • OK, thank you very much for the suggestion, now I have to find out if that product is sold here, in Spain. Garnier Fructis line certainly is sold (I love the smell of their shampoos), but I don't know about the hair putty. I'll have to dig deep in the drugstore shelves!!!

  • awesome ^^

    looks very pretty =]

    and i love ur clothesss

    love 40's 50's, 60's ^^

    keep up the good work

  • Thank you!!! ^_^

  • this is my favorite hair tutorial! this looks easy and fun to do :). how long dose it normally take for you to do this? i can't wait to try it on me.

    thanx!! :)

  • This is also my favorite hairstyle to do!! It really is SO easy too... it usually takes me about 10 mins to do, so it's great on the go.

The longest part about it, is the setting process - which usually takes me up to 30 mins, if I want the pin-curls nice and perfect or 15 mins if I don't work as hard :)

  • That's really beaufitul! I've seen that pin-curl diagram before, and I've given it a try. But it's hard. I've got quite fine, and thin hair, so, pin curls are not very easy for me to do... But I'd really like to be able to have all those 40's, 50's hairstyles...

  • Thank you so much! :)

Yes, thin hair definitely turn all hairstyles into a challenge! I would suggest pin-curling your hair dry or almost dry, using very little product... and perhaps blow-drying your hair upside down. Also, there are a lot of products for "volumizing hair" that I would look into :)

  • stunning!

I love your style sooo much (:

    you're gorgeous.

can you PLEASE make a video on where you buy all of your amazing outfits?

  • I actually just made a video (that I will have up shortly!) showing a lot of my wardrobe as a guide to mixing pieces... is that what you have in mind, or would you like an actual video about the places I shop at? :)

  • That's exactly what i meant (:

will you be telling us where you got them from?

    thank you soooo much (:

  • Sure, no problem! :)

  • That is gorgeous!! and thankyou for taking the time for making these very awesome tutorials.

  • Thank you, and thank you for watching! =^_^=

  • hmm...what's the best brand for hair putty?

  • I use "Garnier Frutis Style, RESHAPABLE PUTTY", but if you can't find that.... just look for something that isn't "runny" :)

  • I just found your channel and I am totally blown away. I love your personal style. Gorgeous!

  • Thank you, that's wonderful! ^__^

  • WOO! I've been looking around for a tutorial on this hairstyle. Thanks a bunch for making this video! :)

  • Great, thank you! :)

  • LOVE it!

  • I want to father your children

  • haha, flirt! How many girls do you say this to? ^_~

  • amazing i freaking loved that hair style on you

  • heehee, thanks! ^_^

  • beautiful as always Aya =) Thank you for another helpful video!

  • aw, thank you!!! =^-^=

  • wow I LOVE THIS LOOK! i have really long hair do you think it will turn out the same?

  • Having very long or layered hair can cause some difficulty with this hairstyle, but is a lot more possible than short hair! Do pin-curls just I described, and if it does not curl up properly, pin the ends of your hair to the lower part of your scalp. Be sure to experiment, I have known other women with very long hair to do this same hairstyle :)

  • I like this video, its very classic and cute! :]

  • aw, thank you!

  • request :can you do a pin up look?

  • Sure can! Going on my personal "request-list" :3

  • thank you looking forward 2 c it ^^

  • the alternative is gorgeous! thanks for taking the time to figure out how to do these styles and for sharing hun~ xoxo

  • Thank you so much! =^-^=

  • aw man, I've tried some of your previous styles but I can never get my hair to look like yours! I'll keep trying though...might attempt this one tonight. :)

I also really love the snood idea; i have some of those at home. They sell them at renaissance faires for a lot cheaper than you can get them online, fyi.

  • Thank you for watching, and good luck with your hair! :)

  • I would love to visit a renaissancefair! Sadly, I am no where near such activities :(

  • ^^ Such a cute style.

  • Thank you!

  • Ah, this is great! Thanks, Aya! <3

  • You're welcome! ^-^

  • :) aw that looked sweet

  • I like your shirt and your necklace!

  • Thanks! :)

  • Looks gorgeous! I've been planning on buying a snood. I found a website that sells them in all sorts of colors! :D

  • That's awesome! I want even more snoods, haha :D

  • very nice :)

  • loved it....ill try it soon..aww and thanx for that extra fixing it tip for just in case i mess it up:p

  • haha! Thank you too! =^_^=

  • I wish I could do that kind of stuff with my hair!! <3

  • aww so cute!
