If I were a captain, my last flight, I would buzz the control tower, what are they going to do, fire me? LOL I landed once as a passenger from Orlando FL to Harrisburg PA, and how close the plane got to the cooling towers of Three Mile Island, I thought the pilot was going to hit them. This was pre 9-11, but damn, I am guessing at least only 1,000 feet, and the way he sharply turned. The airport is close to TMI, after 9-11 I am sure they changed incomming traffic, because I was nervous then...
I thought this was his last day on duty before fired but then I heard that awful drunk peolple noise backround just laughing when normally passenger would have screamed like hell, shitted to their pants and consider fastest way to die without suffering.
@bigkev2084 Yes that's the Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS) announcing at what height above the ground the plane is. The Female voice is nice... what did she say at the end?
@DeepThroatYogurt he did it on purpose. it is the capt. last flight before retirement. its a tradition to do one last "fly by" before the real landing. didnt u thunk that there might be a reason why there where ppl applauding in the backround?
I don't know if is true what you wrote. I think that is really strange that a pilot make a missed approach only for a tradition because this thing could be dangerous for the passengers and airplane. I never heard that a pilot make a missed approach on purpose.
Also it is clearly a flyby since autopilot fully disengaged on during the entire stage. Not on ILS for sure. Manual, clear weather with good visibility outside, slight cross wind on the run way entry from the left. A VFR approach with localizer assist, probably (Cant see the CRT's well(flicker) ). On the go around stage, he had enabled the auto pilot and set heading hold..
@DigiBullet23 That is an experienced Cap behind the yoke and it is not as dangerous as it looks. Pilots are trained to do a lot of go-arounds as well as flybys specifically for emergency conditions such as stuck landing gear (tower visual check) or sudden wind changes or wind shear probability on a run way. This looks more like the Cap's pre-retirement flyby. Good luck to him. Many retired pilots come back into flying again in some way or other like training, simulator instruction etc.
@15492JOSH looks awfully stupid and dangerous consdiering the amount of deaths caused during landing and takeoff and also in the air flight ways near terminals...but still i would be cheering if i was on the plane haha
What about basic safety rules? What are all these people in the cockpit doing in the first place, and what is this annoying screaming? From 10000 feet down there should be no-one interfering inside cockpit, period. If for any reason you have a chance to sit on instructor's jump-seat, shut up. 100+ aviation authority inspectors did not like this ;)
Question for you pilots out there. When I took my PPL in Zimbabwe some 30years ago we were always taught to deviate off centre line when performing a missed approach. This allowed traffic control to expidite departures or arrivals knowing that you were clear of the runway.
Is this the same in other countries or is it dependant on local environment??
@darrindwp no it is not diffrent, what you are actually seeing is not a missed approach but a low fly-by, and whoever gave title to this video was mistaken...
@darrindwp No. When tower is open and has control, and you are cleared to land/touch-and-go/option the runway environment is yours for the duration of that operation. When field is uncontrolled, or "pilot-controlled" the normal customs and courtesies apply. In any case, deviating off the runway centerline is an indication of failure or inability to read and accomodate for winds, and exhibits weak airmanship. the goal is to maintain centerline, unless an early turnout is requested.
@stealhty1 you'll get that annunciator in the air or on the ground. It's needed during hard IFR conditions where the RVR (visibility) is less than the remaining runway. This aircraft is equipped for zero or near-zero visibility approaches.
@QNH1013 I'm sure the people having fun in the back and the smiling pilot will take your comment into consideration the next time they film.
Wait, no, they're too busy not giving a shit and enjoying life.
On the bright side, there are hundreds of other videos of aircraft landing with absolutely zero fun involved that I feel would be much more to your liking.
the whole time he was flying over the runway cause his speed was too fast to land and when he tried to land the plane bumped up in the air, im not sure if at the end he landed though but he looked like he had no runway left
@ricodelta1 If anyone is a moron its you, either spell your words correctly or do not try to pronounce them. And it is a missed approach, they ran out of runway, they had to ascend
