  • where can I find the sheet music, I think you played wonderfully!

  • ERIC SATIE IS UNIQUE!

  • I find it funny that almost everyone is criticizing this like an examiner. This is a good piece played just fine. Probably better then the critiques here could ever.

  • the way I feel, this song is meant to be player slowly, with a lot of 'feeling'. Many versions are too fast. Yours is nice!

  • For my ears and my taste, you have played it at a perfect pace - phrasing works so well. There is such a dream like quality to this music that requires sensitivity to that quality...you most certainly have touched that. Lovely, and thank you so much for your effort in sharing it with me.

  • sounds almost like a sitar.

  • Nice try but next time you do it, try it without reading the music. When i listen to this piece of music i like to feel the rhythm and speed change and the music soften and raise. regardless of what people say, be creative with it, after all the composer was creative enough to write it, put your stamp on it and feel what you play, dont just play what you see! Kind Regards

  • for me it was too mechanical. not that i am critasising your playing, but this (for me at least) should flow, and speed up ad slow down by hard and soft. i dont feel the passion that i feel with this piece of music, i see you reading the music!

  • Not bad, a few mistakes on the notes though...Just a few words of advice (I've played piano for more than 10 years...): i think your left hand is too loud, it should be played softer to accentuate the melody in the right hand. The speed is a bit slow (i prefer it faster, but most prefer it slower) but the thing you should do is vary the speed instead of keeping it the same, it makes the song sound monotonous. Be careful of your pedal, sometimes the notes echo too much. I hope this helps :)

  • Beautiful...Could you tell me where can I reach the sheet music? If you could send me, I would be very thankful *.* Thanks for the video

  • beautiful version!

  • thank you a lot

  • Isn't it supposed to be E?

  • or u can try mozart's 2:1 where u play the song 2x slow then normal speed the 3rd time.

  • You made a lot of mistake. : /

  • Very wrong but beautiful :)

  • excellent. prouda you

  • Cool!

  • SUBLIME!!

  • i have heard 20 + versions of this piece by professional pianists. yours is very good in my opinion. some parts have beautiful feeling but a few parts need to catch up. for the average listener this is amazing and overall very well done but i think there is still room for perfection in the way you are going.

  • lovely

  • beautifully played..

    and i love your hands

  • well interpreted

  • Loved it so much. Thank you. Just one weeny question, at 2:58, rising from up from C, you play an Eb; should it be E natural as in other places?

  • yeah it has to be E naturel.

  • Thank you vey much!

  • Great interpretation, and perfectly executed! :)

  • no way : the author was a man, how it can be possible that only the woman can play it nicely?

  • I think you need to be female to play this one nicely

  • satie was male

  • female or a very sensitive male

  • more like it =D

  • Bullshit. Sex really isn't a factor when one is recreating music.

  • perfectly played and just beautiful!

  • Pretty impresive

  • I have tears listening to you play. Not only were you wonderful, but you played with such emotion and grace.

  • This is the only song i've ever played by ear. I too heard it on the Painted Veil soundtrack and nearly died. It's so beautiful.

This is the best version I've heard so far by the way :)

  • the best version i've found so far

  • i just love this...

  • weird eeire, haunting, strange

  • Very haunting and moving...

  • wow

  • Fine. Wonderful.

The best of the divine inspirations be always with you, springing from your heart, flowing to your hands

  • I don't know why this is so hard for me to learn to play on the piano.

  • the left hand is to loud

  • 0:21 i dont think this is how it's played. i found the music sheet searching through google. I dont think u ppl need a tutorial for this peace. it is pretty easy :)

  • can you do a tutorial of this please?

  • i think there's some misconceptions about intervals.. try to understand how satie actually played this. One more think - it's a dance, as i know, maybe voice of the piano shouldn't be so "sharp"?

  • love this music

  • loved this in the painted veil.

    nice piano

  • may i ask why in the movie where the part in the orphanage(children happily dancing)the tune of this track has a much more 'echo'ish and 'bell'ish tune to it?i like it more that way but you did a great job too

  • One of the reasons is that Lang Lang (I believe he's the pianist for the film) sort of syncopates the tune: fast, slow, fast, slow, whereas here, the notes of the tune are of equal length and the rests are of equal length too. The echo depends on the acoustics and the keyboard itself. Lang Lang most possibly performed the piece on a piano forte, in a hall(as opposed to a piano, which isn't as powerful). Echo can also be added digitally.

  • you do it more than justice... i love the tempo and the feeling you put into it. you obviously love this work. Bravo!

  • AMAZING!

  • Haunting theme, thank you for posting.

  • Nice song !

  • Amazing! Could you send me a copy of the sheet please?

  • I love this! thanks again for the sheet music!!

  • where is the atmosphere? this piece of music turns a cavity into an agile room....i miss this in your interpretation. and beware of bar lines in your notes when you play satie Gn. nr 1.

  • emma cogratulations, you have done a wonderful job on this piee and your pianos sound adds a nice touch, i was wondering if there was any chance you had the river waltz and was able to send it to me plz and this piece itself thank you.

  • rumpuskat your teacher is wrong! 90% of learning a piece comes from listening to it first! that is every piece and with both hands together that is nonsence sight read one hand at a time on each chord and put them together eventually it will get faster and no one will be able to tell the difference good luck! and athrasher just practise slowly and carefully each bar ten times no mistakes ok? that always helps me

  • yeah thats what i do :)

  • @Kezza6452 I view you as a fool! Music is not a practice, it is an expression of the soul.

  • @MegaBGuzman i think your the fool because at what point did i say that music isnt an expression of the soul? if you wish to condescend my comments at least have the read the comments correctly, I'm merely instructing a teaching method to help another not categorizing on what music is or isn't, so next re-read the comment before you comment on it because obviously you have failed to read it proplerly

  • I had to play it with my piano lessons.. loved it! It's so beautiful. And I like it better slower and softer too.

  • really nice, so did you get the movie sheet music? I just ordered Gnossiennce 1 from a music store do they have like a music from the movie book?

  • Wow i really like this song it's calm and i just close my eyes when i listen to it. Bravo you're really good :)

  • Where did you find the sheet music for this? I can't find it for the life of me

  • your hends are amazing. it feel like in Painted veil i am actually dont feel difference. it so gr8 and do you have a mp-3 version for download it in your style?

  • can you do a tutorial???

  • Truly elegant, Emma.

  • you are amazing. I love the movie and i would really like to know were you got the piano music?

  • i got the whole right hand down...but im having trouble timing the left & hand & it's notes....can anyone possibly break it down for me please?

  • My piano teacher tells me to learn both hands at once, read the notes on both staffs at once, and not try to "hear" the music as I'm playing it. Dunno if that helps.

  • It is indeed much more beutiful and haunting when played slow. Great job!

  • beautiful, rather.

  • great job! congrats, emmma! after several days of searching on youtube for other versions, i think that this is one of the best. ;)

  • Too slow? Not at all, i think it's perfect.

  • Absolutely mesmerising. :)

  • beautiful<3 :)

  • there are a few people who says that its kinda slow... try to read the info first :P

  • thanks! :)

  • mshalah

  • Wow very nicely played.

I always loved this piece in the movie.

  • I listen to this once everyday.

    It's better than the original.

  • Perfect speed. Not too fast, not too slow. Congrats, Emma!

  • thank you! i really appreciate nice comments :)

  • Tu t'endors, vachement lent avec quelque oubli mais c'est en essayant qu'on y arrive

  • not sure...but i believe thats an insult? haha thanks

  • I don't think it's too slow at all - I thought you did really well and captured the atmosphere of the piece really well. (Unlike Rudgel who manages to make it sound like fairground music) Yes, there were a few minor mistakes but hey, it's better than anything I could have done. :)

  • If you're going to buy a recording, make sure it's by Aldo Ciccolini. He's recognized as the best interpreter of Satie's music.

  • If you're going to buy a recording, make sure it's by Aldo Ciccolini. He's recognized as the greatest interpreter of Saties's music.

  • Keep it up

  • Extremely well played Emma

  • Simply wonderful...

  • You're awesome.

  • where can i get the sheet music for this?

ahas i watched the painted veil too and got addicted to the song.

  • someone should make a tutorial for this

  • Hi, it's really beautiful. Well played. I can play it to! Actually inspired by the film: The painted veil.

But, just a tip, it's a bit on the slow side.

    X

  • so beautiful!!!!!!! i wish i knew how to play the piano :-(

  • merci, pour ce doux moment!!!

genial, simple, douceur des mains reprenant les touches de piano avec serenite.

    bravo!

  • Magnifique, bravo. :)

  • Wow, brilliant! I wish I could play like that, very inspiring, I'm going to learn it right this minute!!

  • perfect speed

  • Again, who cares how he plays it. It's his interpretation leave him alone and let him have his art.

  • i like very much, your piano is wonderfull, but is ... desafinado (spanish, sorry, I forgot the traslation)

you are a little static when you play, and pedal is bad in someplaces.

    good day!

  • haha thanks...i guess!

  • now someone just needs to play the theme from the painted veil that song makes you think.

  • Have a look to the one of gdan666666...

  • Well played, but there is a lack of emotions...if you love this music, the emotions will appear soon...

  • i love playing this its pretty and easy

i like playing it slower too :)

  • beautifully haunting

i love the whole soundtrack of the painted veil.

  • The sheet music is readily available, you may already have it in your music library along with other Satie pieces. It is First Gnossienne by Erk Satie. Written 1890. I found I already had it in The Alfred Masterworks Edition, SATIE, 3 Gymnopedies & 3 Gnossiennes for the Piano.

  • Rad.

  • This is my favourite music...I love it!!!!!

  • Do you know the name of the song?

  • Man there are some STUPID ASSES in this world...

    The TITLE you idiot!

  • =))

  • There are also some very RUDE ones as well.

  • The name of the song is Gnossienne No.1

    ( By Eric Satie)

This is one of my favorite songs to play on the piano too. I am not as good though I have to admit. But I have just recently learned it.

    :)

    Great Job!

  • Does anyone know the name of this song??

  • UM IT IS GNOSSIEN nO.1

  • Wonderful! Your hands mezmerize!

  • I'm looking for this sheet music, how can I get it? By the way, good job playing this song. Although you are right should a bit slower. Still good though.

  • did you find the sheet music ?

  • The one in Chocolat is a different one. it's similar though, but definitely not the same.

  • Nicely played, wonderful piece

  • Lovely. Your performance of it is the best I have heard.

  • i watched Painted Veil on sunday night-it was amazing and so was the music in it especially Gnossienne No.1

    thank you

  • well played!!! excellent!! I always forget the sequence of this song goes. I just mix between the 1st verse, chorus, and 2nd verse.

  • I watched Painted Veil last night and just had to listen to this again. I agree with you that it sounds better softer and slower - great performance! Very well done! Thank you for posting and allowing me to enjoy this hauntingly beautiful music again! :-)

  • Quite pretty. :)

  • Nice execution!! Pretty sound

  • You play very good! Like it :)
