that is the exact opposite of what every coach in highschool and college swim teams told me. I was told to move from the core, always, because you're using bigger muscles and it saves energy. Plus, you want the undulation of the entire body to help move you through the water. He has a strong down kick, but because of his technique, his upkick actually slows him down from all the movement in the knees, and you can see this in the video. If he was moving from the core, this wouldnt happen.

Less legs in fly. The rule of diminishing returns is in effect here. It just gets you tired. Fly is 90% upper body with a little and big kick. The big kick propels your upper body out of the water for your next cycle. The little kick follows and is just reverberation from the upper body movement. LESS knees than this guy is saying...
His butterfly kick sucks...All knees. I don't agree with what he says. You want to get your hips in which makes the kick much stronger. Also it gives you the same motion as when you are swimming the whole stroke when you have the whole body undulation.

@HungAzn i agree using your hips, it helps you to come out of the water easier for the breath and works well with the pull of the arms if they are in sinc. however using the upper body is not good and will just slow you down ^^ alll about style and technique - once you get it right you will feel it - and it feels gud ^^ =)

I watched about 30 seconds of this video and then stopped because I could help but notice that you have no idea how to do dolphin kick.You have no right to be instructing people and have no right to label yourself an 'expert'. There's so much wrong with this video that I don't even know where to start. It is clear that you are uncertain of your own knowledge of dolphin kick. Do everyone that actually knows how to swim 'competitive butterfly' a favor and take this and other videos like this down.

You bend your knees too much. You're creating drag if you bend your knees like that.

That wont work as you need ungulation on butterfly :) and u dont bend your knees like you were saying, you use your whole body technicallyy :/ as the ungulation comes from you hips and from ur hips down they show be moveing (have an ungulation) al the time and shown't look like that ^o) look at micheal phelps x

dont bend ur knees. it causes drag while putting ur knee up. When doing a dolphin kick, or butterfly, ur abs should be working with ur body. fucking noob philip toriello

Yup. This guy has it wrong. Bending the knees is what I do, my freedive coach is teaching me the proper way: not bending the knees.

I am also trainer I have a tip less you try to bend knees otherwise your legs too far apart and therefore you lose your speed.

I think you're retarded because it says how to do "butterfly KICK" OK? Not the full thing. Now he says you should avoid a full wave motion. I don't know. I do the full wave motion. As for looking like rape. After more practice most people fix the rape = )

but the leading swimmers in butterfly and breastroke have a special movment in there chest and core region
