@Quacko69 Hm... Not sure that a "pet" would be appropriate term fora HUNTING FALCON. It is not about training falcon a "trick" to do, but abotu DEVELOPING it as a hunting predator. In this respect yor question "how much time" sounds a but off the content because it takes life :) However in a strickt meaning and especially if we wrap a question to "how long it tales to start flying to the kite?" I would say about a month (depends on a bird and you, of course). "Command" could be nothing at all
With the 'command' i mean like an dog. You can call it back and all that, how do you do that with the falcon? And with pet, Iøm just mean an animal you have.. not that good at english, sodon'tknowthebigdifferenceofallwords:)
Train and tame - Do you get it tamed, or as an 'baby' bird?
@Quacko69 Yes there are some acoustic or visual "commands" however it is still far not as in a dog's world. As far as taming, there are 2 ways: One as you said - get a baby birds or Second was is to catch young wild bird and tame it
Hello im 14 And im looking into to being a falconry around the time of 18 or 20,any tips suggestions,or anything you would like to give someone that loves birds?
Hi! Thanks for watching my video. As far as suggestions:
1) If you love falconry, do not wait til 18:) Find a falconer in your area and try to spend time with him and his birds. It is very important BEFORE you get your own birds to spend time with someone who hunts with falcon and who hunts hawk, so that you learn the difference and later get the birds you like.
Go online and find your state's DEC (dept environmental conservation) web page and the find phone and address of the "Special Licenses Unit". They should have most of the requirements published on their web page and you can contact that unit and request a list of falconers in your state. If you live in NY I can send you one.
2) Depends when you can get a drivers lic and if you family would allow to to drive, you could get a bird at 16 or even earlier if you have somebody to drive to the places where you can fly your bird.
@myleghurts100 If you COUHGT a pasage bird which already was hunting being wild, you sometimes may start hunting in a few weeks. Depends on you and bird (as always :))
@myleghurts100 I am sorry for the delay replying to your message. i wasn't checking my utube for 5 months. there is not exact answer to your question because it is all about WHAT you put into the definition of "hunting". My young birds used to kill wild ducks at age of 4 moths, but I do not call it HUNTING. Personally I TRAIN my birds to hunt for at least a year. Many falcones woud agree that REAL hunting starts when your bird is 3 years old. But again - his all depends on YOU!
Haha! Like these birds! It would be cool to have one of these like an pet!!
Got some questions..
How long time does it take to train one?
And the "comands", are it like a dog - Sounds and signs - og how do you do it?
And how much can you tame it?

3) Read as much falconry books as you can, but a MUST READ (and understand!) is this one: Ed Pitcher and Ricardo Velarde "The Flying Falcon" (2010)
This is the best bok I ever read
