  • Shes most likely got a very low compression ratio, a shitload of timing and fuel, and certainly no glow plugs. It would probably never start without ether.

  • @crimson if the engine is cold and you do not have the glow plugs lit (disconnect them) you can use ether SPARINGLY you will do no damage and will not dry our the cylinders. period.

  • @bbubacz1 it doesnt matter ether kills diesel engines period. had to rebuild my uncles ford tractor because he used ether all the time to start it.

  • @UncleBubbles94 lol sorry either, true that about the reliability of powerjokes hah. BUT either is bad for diesels since it has NO lubrication in it at all. they say every squirt is 10 hours off the life of the engine, where i live anyway.

  • @UthinkUknowlol3715 Yes it's true, either has no lube in it, but it doesn't need it. The path of the either is: Turbo, intercooler, intake manifold, valves, combustion chamber. Not one of the those parts needs lube but the turbo, and that has it's own oil supply. The reason diesel needed to have lubricity is because of the injection pumps of back in the day where they lubricated by the diesel, but when ULSD came around, they designed injection system that need no lube from the diesel.

  • @zman4ish im not too sure about all its uses, but it is a very flammable liquid use to aid starting processes like i the video, but i no if u spray it in the carb itll start like nothing. hope that clears it up a little :)

  • Idi is indirect injection and the reason it starts so hard is because one it has huge injectors which means lots of fuel to heat up and ignite. Two, the advance on the injection pump is so far advanced it only runs right around peak rpms (some guys run as much as 40 degrees advance). And thirdly it's because in order to run almost 200psi of boost you have to drop the compression a lot. I'd be surprised if it had 14.5:1 compression.

  • The reason it needs ether to start is because it has 11:1 compression so they dont blow up the motor from 150 psi of boost.

  • its funny how some of the people on youtube think they know everything saying that it will lock it up and stuff...these engines run on such low compression it take about a can just to get the engine running on its own...we use the same on my john deere pullers
