  • I’m back, back in the New York Groove!

  • Ace never even listened to thw other ones x] I have Ace and Gene's on picture disc vinyl! Love them!

  • Paul and aces was the best

  • Great episode of kisstory this one!!!

  • Of course we all know how this shook out. Not much more to say. I still enjoy Paul's.

  • "Gimmick" was the right word choice. Ace's album was the only one worth a shit at the time and still holds up.

  • If you listen to Paul's album backwards you can hear him say that he loves cock more than his boyfriend.

  • To bad the idea backfired,There were a ton of these albums left because of over pressing. Most wound up in bargin bins at cut rate prices. As a Kiss fan from 76 and on,I liked them all but, Ace's blew the others away. A fact that Paul and Gene admited

  • 3 of the 4 were destined for the bargin bins sadly. The only one I wasn't fond of was Peter's.

  • i'll never know my copies the same way again

  • paul's & gene's were the best to me

  • I took all the good songs from each album and mixed them into one awesome CD...now I have one rockin' CD for my car.

  • Fuck yeah go kiss

  • @JesterSkullProducers I'm sure you could find one they're really cheap

  • Man, what I would do for an Original of any one of those albums...

  • Just how they released the solo albums during their peak was so unique and huge! It was unheard of, Kiss were great and still are. Im proud to say I own all 4 and own a mint condition Ace Frehley solo with the poster and its fair to say Aces one was the rock one of them all.

  • i might be in the minority, but i didnt think peter criss solo album was that bad. its different from kiss but just shows a wider range of influence he had. but ace's solo was the best

  • It doesn't matter who sold more, if you were Kiss fan, you should have bought all four.

  • peter criss's was fucking just brutal

  • i think i know where this comes from

    inside the casbah

  • It's a shame few of those records actually sold...But you don't have to sell records to go Platinum. You just have to print them.

  • IMO, Ace's Album was the best. I thought Paul's had too many ballets on it.. Peter's seem like a tribute to a by-gone musical era at that time. and Gene's seemed like the songs were rushed to be put on the album.. (But Radioactive was good)

  • interesting... i didn't care for the peter criss album.... does anyone remember the posters??? : )

  • They sold, very well. They sold between 5 or 600,000 copies, that enormous amount of records. They sold 1,000,000 each by Criss' album sold the lowest out of the four.

  • SPEEDIN' BACK TO MY BABY BY ACE - GREATEST SONG OFF ANY OF THE ALBUMS, GREATEST SONG EVER !!!

  • @liltookie1727 I like new york groove

  • As it turned out, all 4 together, truthfully, only sold about 2.5 million...about what a REAL KISS album would have sold. They "shipped platinum", causing tons of returns to Casablanca.

  • I like Gene's most. It's very odd and various. Peter's is too soft and Paul's and Ace's are just KISS.

Radioactive was the song, that attracted me the most.

  • Ace's and Paul's were great LP's....Peter Criss's was so awful I barely listened to that one. I do remember loving one track on Paul's solo LP ....what a premo song, just can't recall the track. Remember Gene singing "wish upon a star" - funny! Ace's hit "New York Groove" received tons of radio play as I remember.

  • im pretty damn sure this was the commercial that was released to the public, BEFORE the albums were even released. it was a mistake from the record company, putting out the wrong commercial. here it says the albums were already double platinum but they werent even out lol eventually there was massive back orders due to each album eventually going platinum-double platinum but they really did press over 4 million of solo album. crazy numbers and fun facts. i like Pauls and Peters the best.

  • Working a factory like that one would be pretty cool!

  • just listen to the 4 albums and you´ll notice that only Ace and Paul had the badass rock n' roll talent...and when you have pick one of them, you will notice that Ace is the best,I just love every song and songs like Snow Blind,Rip It Out or New York Groove heve become classical Kiss hits, without mentioning songs like Ozone, not really appreciated but it's another awesome song!!

  • RIP IT OUT!!!

  • in order. i always love Peters album. dont you let me down, i cant stop the rain are my favorite. second favorite is pauls. tonight you belong to me was a state of the art epic rock song from 1978. then its aces. obviously aces was the most ahead of its time it sounds the best sonically out of the 4. least favorite is genes. only song i enjoy is mr make believe. altho i know every song off every solo album by heart. this is just my order of preference.

  • I love all four albums. I bought them in 1978 when I was a teenager and I still listen to them to this day. Cool album art, cool music, and an awesome unifying theme.

  • I was always a Starchild guy, I liked Ace's too, Peter's had some good moments, Gene's was phoned in. Too bad there isn't a follow up report about all the unsold copies that the record stores dumped back on Casblanca. I'm a big KISS fan but this was the beginning of the downturn, slight rebound with Dynasty then the Unmasked, Elder disasters. Alive II marked the end of the golden age of KISS.

  • Dude is this great, but by this time Peter Criss was gone. Anton Fig from "david letterman fame" took over. By this time <Kiss was gone being devilsh and Rock and Roll. To being money makers that they are now. Long live KISS.

  • You're right, Peter's playing wasn't up to snuff for Dynasty and of course he was all but gone for Ummasked. The last thing he did with them unitl the reunion was the Shandi video.

  • Phoned in? I like that record, if anything it's got a lot of diversity. I'd love to be Gene for a day lol

  • you kids out there, this is what a record store used to look like. the covers were incredibly important.

  • those were the days

  • My favourite has always been Ace's, but the others get slagged unfairly, especially Peter's. The entire idea was to do something DIFFERENT from KISS. The only one that was really KISS-like was Paul's. Ace's was heavier, Peter's was R&B and Gene's was all over the map.

  • the only reason genes sold is because most kids at the time gene was there favorite member

  • His had the best album cover. It was the blood coming out of his mouth.

  • Ace did the best out of the four plus a top 20 hit single

  • Peter

    Ace/Paul

    Gene

  • 1 paul ace gene peter=KISS

  • 1. Ace

    2. Ace

    3. Ace

    4. Gene, Paul, Peter

  • 1Gene

    2 PAul

    3 Peter

    4 ACe

  • 1gene

    2ace

    3paul

    4peter

theres the correct order in the most sold

  • ace album was the one that sold the most.

  • @petercriscuola no it was not..

  • @MrAndreSChr

you are wrong, ace sold the most and it was the only one that had a hit song.

  • @petercriscuola Your source?

  • @MrAndreSChr

ace solo album stayed on the charts longer and had a hit.

from 1991 to 2007 ace solo album sold 46.000 copies.

second place is for paul with 33.000.

you can found this on kissfaq.com.

every kiss fan knows that ace sold the most.

  • @petercriscuola kissfaq is not a valid source.. its a fan page .. every retard knows Aces album sold morst.. Every Person who checked the chart positions knows Gene's sold most and charted highest.. Ace was #2 Paul #3

  • @MrAndreSChr kissfaq is the best source!

and the numbers i gave you are soundscan numbers! not kissfaq numbers! think what you want, ace sold the most, it was always like this.

it was the only one with a hit and stayed in the chart more than the others.

  • I still have mine from 30 years ago...all the posters and flyers are in MINT condition too!

  • My favourite of the solo album in order are

    1. Ace Frehely

    2. Gene Simmons

    3. Paul Stanley

    4. Peter Criss

  • 1. Ace

    2. Paul

    3.Peter

    4.Gene ( i can't stand when you wish upon a star)

  • at the end of When You Wish Upon a Star, you could hear Gene's voice crack.

It gave me goosebumps, when I heard it.

  • What I like on these:

Ace - Side 1: 3 songs, Side 2: All Four

    Gene - Side 1: 3 songs, Side 2: 3 Songs

    Paul - Side 1: 3, Side 2: all four

    Peter - Side 1: 3, Side 2: 3 Songs

  • alot of people getting thumbs down

    everyone has their own Opinion.

your top 4 are same order as mine

  • kiss is a prety good band.

  • Now I need to see the promo that showcases how 95% of these records came back returned and ended being the biggest boondoggle in recorded music history to that point. Cut-out bins from sea to shining see were filled with to the brim. Those were the days.

  • hhahahahah good one, yeah good idea in concept but it just never came to fruiton, they should ahve just relased 1 album with all 4 of the faces on it (like they did on the rare best of the solo albums album) and leave it at that

  • That's right! The market had become saturated with KISS product by that time. These were the first KISS albums to make it into the delete bins. The fact that the albums, except Ace's, weren't very good didn't help matters either!

  • Yeah I Though The Solo Albums Where Cool I Liked Them All Equally I Didn't Really Have A Favourite Album. Each Member Though Had A Different Musical Direction Too.

  • I had the Gene Simmons solo album. I loved it. I loved the song where Cher was talking to Gene on the phone or something like that. Kiss was naughty when I was a kid...lol

  • living in sin

  • only problem is, a lot of these lp's were in the cutouts unfortunately....most kiss fans couldn't afford to buy 4 lp's at once.

  • Out of all 4 solo projects.Frehley's sold the most.Mainly in large part of the Song,"NY groove's" marketing.

  • A record store!!! so few of them now .........................sigh. I remember when these albums came out i was just a kid. Those records are worth a lot of money now. I'm a Dj now, and i don't play rock, but i would have liked to get these albums, just to have them in my collection. maybe hang them on my wall. Dj Cas. Lawrence, Kansas.

  • OMG- I'm 41 years old, you NEED to see the wall at my place. I have all 4 solo albums framed and hanging on my wall! Woot~! Let's hear it for the KISS Army freaks... ;(

  • im 38 - i know exactly what u mean - i live in england - i went thru a crazy stage that i'd put all 4 solo covers in my front window - lol - KISS 4 eva!!

  • It was a bad mistake bringing out the solo albums thats the ground why theire arent the orignial kiss now!

  • I'm in a minority; I loved all the solos. Not saying I have my criticisms on the Peter/Gene albums, but they were all genuine efforts that were personal. I still listen to them over and over.

  • vote your favourite GUITAR SOLO

maybe a kiss song, maybe stairway to heaven, maybe comfortably numb.

YOU DECIDE!!! vote on my channel

    rock on

  • The Solo albums Kick so much ass! Personaly, I like Pauls album most, But dont get me wrong, I love the other albums to. KISS ROcks my world man! ROCK ON KISS!!! KISS ARMY!!!

  • who sold the most albums?

  • Ace Frehley. But in the first weeks, Gene Simmons clearly sold the most.

  • That's ok most of us Kiss fans are always on low budgets.

  • buy paul stanley or ace's they are really the only one's that are good pauls is the best though

  • I haven't heard any of the albums. However, I want to know which album I should get if I just get one of them. I'm hoping to get all four of them, but my budget isn't that good. Just one album. I'm on a very low budget right now.

  • It depends. If you like in your face rock and roll, go with Ace. If you want an album that is the most "KISS like", go with Paul. If you like a little bit of everything, go with Gene. If you like R&B/soul, go with Peter.

  • If you want to buy just one KISS solo...it's gotta be Ace Frehley. 30 years later, it still stands up. The other 3 are completely forgettable.

  • i am have made reviews of the albums with the songs,Ace's,Paul's are done and i am working on Peter Criss's version right now, just look in my account for Ace's and Paul's version, those are the best one of the solo albums

  • Hi, rockin, As far as "Commercial Success"

Ace's album was the best album. But for a true Kiss fan you got to have them all. This was more history in the making, no band had ever done this before and maybe not since. But it did signal the end of a great band as we knew it.

  • ACE´S... CLEARLY THE BEST!

  • I agree

  • Me 2, and I like "New York Groove", "Wiped Out", "Fractured Mirror", and "I'm In Need of Love"

  • @ponnyegua, you just like it because it has "New York Groove"

  • 1. is tied between Pauls and Ace's. 2. Gene's 3. Is Peter's

  • See I disagree, I feel as though Gene's was the best and Peter's was the worst. Gene showed us a different dimension to his musical talents. Come on, you can't seriously tell me that "Radioactive," and "See You Tonite," aren't amazing tracks!

  • Ace's was the best one;Paul&Pete's were good;Gene's sucked.

  • The best in order: #1 Ace, #2 Paul, #3 Peter, #4 Gene. Gene's was just LAME! Everyone thought his was going to be this heavy, dark album full of tracks like "God of Thunder," and it turned out with songs like "When you wish upon a star" and "Man of 1000 faces!" Peter's surprised me with really good songs like "I can't stop the rain" and "Don't you let me down." Very much like his "Beth" style. Gene wanted to show he was more than a "Rock" song writer, and really blew it.

  • That is an unthinkable feat. I'd like to see a group try that today.

  • The truth is that the four albums was pretty

good. Think about it - a group release a record from one of each in the band - simultaneous! And thinking bout Ace and Peter, who only participated with few songs - makes whole albums, I think Genes album was the weakest one - besides of great songs like "Mr. Make believe" and "See you tonite".

  • 1978- Did you see that? Products being manufactured in the USA by Americans!

  • All the albums were good in their own way.

  • Ace Frehley and , may be , Peter Criss were the only one's who gave a shit about music. Gene and Paul were all about the money. That's it.

  • WRONG...paul TOTALLY cares about music..and it shows w all his GREAT writing...and i have to say ,, even though i am a HUGE ace fan , pauls ALONG w ace were the 2 best solo albums...paul cares, he just ALSO digs cash...

  • over a million solos sold, and the only good one is ace frealy? numbers speak louder than words.

  • noo..people, PAULS ROCKED ALSO...lots of depth and feel..genes and peters?..eeeck

  • Ace Frehley's Solo Album was the only Good One

  • all albums were not so good, but each of them had one or two great songs like Tonight you belong to me and Love in chains from paul's album, Radioactive from Gene's album, New York groove and Snow Blind from Ace's, and Tossin' and Turnin' from Peter's album.

  • What's Weird about Snow Blind it was the B-Side to NY Groove

  • WRONG...aces and pauls ROCKED...

  • well, it's your opinion...And although i said that they all were not so good, i still listen to all songs from them.

  • Gene's album was pretty good with great songs as Mr. Make believe and See you tonite. Peters solo album has Matters to me who also was a good one.

  • this should have been on kissology 2. kissology 2 did not show hardly anything from 1978. I dont get it

  • These Solo albums should have been combined into one great album instead of four individual albums. Hindsight is 20/20

  • It's the same thing with when they should have unmasked themselves. They should have unmasked themselves that year when they were still incredibly popular and when Ace and Peter were still there. Hindsight is 20/20.

  • Record stores were so pissed that those flipping albums were such a bust !! Many stores were left with TONS of unsold inventory that Casablanca would not take back. The solo albums werea HUGE failure !!

  • Ace and Gene's each sold roughly 600,000 each and Paul and Peter's each sold 500,000 copies. Seems 1978 was solo year for many bands. The KISS solo albums. David Gilmour and Rick Wright of Pink Floyd also released solo efforts. Gilmour's self titled album did well (hit #29 in the US and sold 500,000 plus copies going Gold in the US) while Wright's album Wet Dream flopped big time. Eagle Joe Walsh released But Seriously Folks which became his biggest selling solo disc.

  • Yes they were. Its always made out to be like these albums were a hit when they weren't. They shipped platinum. Meaning record stores ordered a million of each albums hoping fans would get one of each. Thats didn't happen. What we did as kids was to have each friend buy 1 album then all get together and listen. I got Ace(thank god) and my sister got Peter(YUK)had a friend get Gene and we never did get Paul LMAO!!

  • That's so fuckin' awesome! LOL! Ace's was obviously the winner, and I still listen to it quite a bit. I didn't like Gene's as a kid, but I love it today. 'Always Near You' just makes me FEEL like I'm back in the 70's again, I'm a kid, and there's nothing to worry about. I owe those guys SO much.

    Cheers!

  • yeah i love always near you - near end when the women 'choir' cum in - i scratched the record listening to that part - i loved see you in ur dreams tonite - better than the KISS version i thought

  • Yeah, I recall reading that a lot of those records got sent back to the record company because they didn't sell.

I recall reading that Gene's was the one that charted the highest, but Ace's is actually the one that's sold the most, because over time, his was the one that continued to sell after.
