I support Barry's version. Steven Tallarico lived up the street from me off Mountaindale Rd in Yonkers. I had a band, Steven was in the Chain Reaction and the Gillette brothers had a band called The Road Runners - and all of us played for the agency Rustin & Brenner (later Creative Talent Associates). I cuaght the Chain reaction on many occasions and bought the single after I heard Steven singing it as a pure front man. He told me he was the singer and it sounds like him at that time
What a trip. Steven hadn't developed his voice yet and he sounds so generic. Regardless of the blahness of it, you can still tell it's him because of that certain something in his tone. He's come such a long way. Listen to "Ain't that a bitch" and tell me he is anything short of AMAZING.
@anderzom - OK let's set the record straight.... Steve was NOT the drummer on this recording.... How do I know... it was ME Barry Shapiro. If you read WALK THIS WAY, you would know that information. Steve was the original drummer for the chain reaction BEFORE this single was recorded. Steve IS the singer on this record, AND on the other single THE SUN. The single WHEN I NEEDED YOU was on PANDORA's BOX... first song, first, side, first CD. So there pseudo AEROSMITH know it alls!!!
@carlili47 I hope this post makes it; didn't connect a few secs ago. Barry, if you ever read this, please respond.
I've been wondering where "The Strangeurs/Chain Reaction" guys are. I went to college in CT with Pete; I
think you attended Quinnipiac too, or just visited alot. I helped Pete edit a line for "The Sun'--I love that song and still knew every word when I heard it online! We all bought the 45rpm--my sorority sisters and I were so
@lexiboo34 NO lexiboo34..... He is singing only. I was playing the drums.... READ WALK THIS WAY>>>>>>> no ACTUALLY read the book and what it says. I was the drummer when these singles were recorded. Steve was the lead singer.
its steven, it just doesnt sound like him here because he was pretty young and his voice has definatly changed since chain reaction and aerosmith for sure, but it is steven tyler singing.
@lexiboo34 you're wrong! he was the drummer AND the singer but when chain reaction opened for the the yardbirds they told them steven was good and he should be the frontman, so they hired another drummer and he just sang
Have you read the Walk This Way autobiography, and Hit Hard? apparently not because it clearly states in both that Steven was only the drummer to these songs, but he did back-up sing on various parts, but that was all he did vocally get your facts straight.
The Strangeurs line up: * Don Solomon - keyboards/vocals * Peter Stahl - guitar * Alan Strohmayer - bass * Steven Tallarico - drums/vocals * Barry Shore (Barry Shapiro) - drums
Chain Reaction line up: * Steve Tally (Steven Tallarico) - lead vocals * Don Sloan (Don Solomon) - keyboards * Peter Stahl - guitar * Alan Strohmayer - bass * Barry Shore (Barry Shapiro) - drums
@Getmetothefarm You're partly right that he played the drums, but not on these Chain Reaction recordings. Gourmetofknitting already gave the correct information below plus Steven's already confirmed that he stopped being the drummer and sang when they changed their band name from The Strangeurs to Chain Reaction. People shouldn't be thumbing-up technically incorrect info. /:
If you read the side panel, he played in the band as the drummer, not the singer. He's not singing this song. If it is him, his voice drastically changed when he formed Aerosmith.
I don't think there was any more Chain Reaction recordings than this and "The Sun". Steven and his buddies made this in '67 and it was available locally in Yonkers on both sides of a 45. I had one. I knew Steve Tollarico.
Steven Tyler is actually the drummer of this band, obviously I know who Steven Tyler is I'm not fucking retarded. But I do know that he's not the singer he's the drummerd. FU
Thanks for posting these 2 videos Victoria... Without them I wouldn't have known about the other 2 songs from Chain Reaction..... I only posted those 2 because you said you had probs posting them.......
This is a decent song, especially the guitar solos, but it's not great. It sounds somewhere between the yardbirds and the beatles, which was what everyone was aiming for. It is just not unique, simple 60s music captured in one song.
@steventylerisveryhot barry shapiro is on the far left... he was the drummer for the Chain Reaction. Steve was the lead singer and lead singer ONLY!!!!!
This is Awesome!

The actual 45 rpm is titled "When I Needed You". A typo I'm sure. (:
I see a future cover song for Mr. Steven Tyler and Aerosmith...how about "Walkin' The Dog" maybe? The pooch is cute.

Steven is drumming, for those watching this and The Sun, he's drumming! So stop making up crap about how he changed his voice, because he's DRUMMING.
