  • very twee , maybe a cohiba as well.

  • I remember reading that this was the proper way to prepare absinthe but it was acceptable amongst french "Boheimans" to burn it.

  • @BeingHumanAintEasy It's made up. There's absolutely no record of burning absinthe prior to the 1990's. There's a vintage painting with burning sugar on a coffee cup, but that's café royale.

  • @Filipeeno, have written book, published. Your lucky re drinking, I go through the gates of hell, demons, devils and monstered thrown in for good measure! Keep the faith brother, have one for me, no doubt joining you soon... get thee behind me mr hyde!

  • I like the music

  • will be doing mine on wed. cant wait !

  • @Filipeeno. don't get me started on that new fcukin madhouse "hospital" 8 miles from me!!! They don't understand the chemical needs of the withdrawing alki... "151 overproof rums" wtf, ffs, omg, YOU'VE BEEN ON THE BASH YOU LUCKY BASTARD!!! As for me, as if any of you desperados care, have just come too from the new-year binge... "it hurts" chuck marone.

  • @17soulable I'll pay you five hundred dollars to drink your usual amount of absinthe and write a book. I would read it.

  • @17soulable And yes, I'm on the bash, and then off the bash. I don't know what was different about last week. I don't know what changes week to week.

  • @EifersiPod Not okay, of course, but possible. heh. If one does rear-end another or drifts so far to the right that he hits a parked car, the cop is not gonna care that he was drunk, but lucidly drunk. lol

  • will this work with lucid?anyone

  • What is the song playing?

  • very nicely done makes me want a glass every time i watch this

  • Really nice video and music i prefer chilled pineapple juice rather than water but classic is classic!

  • I prefer one oz of Ab.. 1 oz of cold water, a second oz of Ab Slowly dripped over a sugar cube, finish with a few ice cubes... but that's just me, nothing is written in stone.

  • just put the sugar cube in your mouth (dont swallow yet) then pour the absinthe then water THEN SWALLOW! yeah!

  • art

  • So, before sugar cubes, how was absinth drank?

  • @IExposeMormonism SHUGA BALLZ !

  • @IExposeMormonism oh,and i don't think absinthe is older than sugar cubes...

  • @BoltaVS Sugar cubes probably weren't widespread (or sold at an affordable price) in 1790's Val-de-Travers. It was rather a mid-to-late 19th century fashion to sugar everything including absinthe, maybe that's why classic French absinthe became a little dryer.

  • This makes me wanna prepare my glass!!!

  • can't stand when people don't prepare it the right way and just insist on slamming straight absinthe. *cringes*

  • nothing happened, we mentioned the monty pyton skit then nothing happened

    /watch?v=XnePDdLZFT8

  • At last use a fork Fukhed!

  • Takes forever.

  • i still really really want to knwo the name of the song

  • @S1W2E3D I think the song is Navegando by Lenny Ibizarre

  • @soulsurfer69 i cant find it so i cant be sure but thank you and cheers, i really like his ambient if it is

  • very nice.

  • lovely

  • lovely

  • whats the difference between straight and prepared absinthe?

  • @mastamcmastaman - I think it's simply called straight if you drink it straight, i.e. without adding any water or sugar, and it's called prepared when you do add them, like in the video.

  • what kind of absinthe did you use for this video?

  • got my gothic attire, gots meh green fairy, time to party for halloween motherfuckers!

  • I was wondering, why must it be with cold water ?

  • @snapsnaporange It's not a must. Cold absinthe feels fresher and the taste gets cleaner, but some absintheurs use room temperature water. Refrigenerating was not widely available when absinthe was invented, but it also tasted a little different in the early 1800's than later.

  • @nalyib Thanks man. (:

  • what kind of glass is that?

  • @finalfight It's an absinthe glass. You fill it up to a certain point in the glass with absinthe and then the rest with cold water over a sugar cube.

  • Its really nice in orange juice!

  • Weirdest drunk everrrrrrrrrr!!!

  • it looks...so..beautiful!!! mmm

  • that's the best way to louche it, nice and sloooooow..

  • Tried my first one at the age of 13 :)

  • @superduperfudge and then what happened?

  • anybody drink some of the stuff they sell in Europe vs the stuff you can get in the US? have you compare how you felt -as in the "experience" I have a feeling it's allot of hype. I can say having drank a couple quickly I did notice the effects of the alcohol, but I also felt a happy kind of buzz -and not sluggish or any stupor. In fact I felt energized -like I had a shot of caffiene with it -only without the jumpy-ness. I have a feeling it's more about the herbs in the drink.

  • @impdream70 I've tried several European ones, some of which are U.S. compatible. You have to look for any slight effect so desperately that you make it up for yourself at the end. Most people definitely feel 'energized' and such only because they're so excited about finding effects. There was a scientific experiment about testing thujone's effect on people, and it took a ridiculously high dose to make at least a FEW of them feel any difference. As for other herbs, no difference between EU vs US.

  • @nalyib actually it is energizing, it does act like an energy drink but those effects are covered by its high alcoholic volume. the great myth is the one about the hallucinations, that's 100% fake. except if you have hallucinations whenever you're drunk :)

  • @sniperinnova23 I'm not sure if alcohol covers the effects; rather the herbs work against alcohol, so an alcohol-free absinthe would have no energizing effects, or at least that's what I think after experiencing with tinctures made of absinthe's herbs.

The famous absinthe quotes are not actually from Oscar Wilde. You'll never find them in Wilde's own poetry, since they're from 20. century books written by his acquaintaces. I also know a quotation "from him" that he didn't really like absinthe:)

  • @nalyib i meant that alcohol makes you dizzy and slow compared to energy drinks. thanks for your answer :)

  • @sniperinnova23 so why do they say that

  • @nalyib which confirms what I suspect, namely the reputation, even Oscar Wilde's poetry extolling the virtue of the drink are either propaganda or hype for the most part. Good to see you compared the Euro stuff to the US stuff as I am sure there are many people arguing that the US stuff is "bogus" but have yet to really "dance with the green fairy" themselves -or have that mind expanding experience that we are supposed to be missing. I say just drink it and enjoy -right?

  • why cant you just drop the sugar cube in the glass?

  • Just had my first glass of Absinthe... It is amazing. Not sure if the brand I have is a good one (La Fee), but I thought it was very enjoyable. Cheers to all you Absinthe drinkers out there.

  • Terrific film!

  • pws92...its called a bad prostate.

  • what is the device that lets the drip out known as?

  • @pws92 an absinthe fountain.

  • @pws92 More commonly referred to as a "Absinthe Fountain Sets", if you google it a ton of places have them to purchase. They normally set you back $200 which includes 4 glass as well.

  • What brand Absinthe?

  • @Gretsche87 Absinthe isn't a brand its a type pf liquor just like Vodka is a liquor and not a brand. There are several brands and countries that make a good Absinthe out there.

  • @JediGoddessChristy my guess is he/she was asking what brand of absinthe was used in the vid.

  • @JediGoddessChristy

How did you think that's what I was asking?? I was asking what brand Absinthe was featured in the video. You must have assumed my grammar was horrible in order to have arrived at such a conclusion...jeez

  • @Gretsche87 dom pernod is a good brand, also fee verte

  • i gotta say its incredibly beautiful to watch.

  • FUCK U >>>THIS IS BULLCRAP!!!!

  • which are exactly the effects after drink a glass of absinthe...???

  • We are going to try this.

  • Professional, nice dude!

  • @S1W2E3D, "i have sinned"! i finally succumbed and sneaked off for a carry-oot, 12 cans o' cider and 6 cans o' lager. that should do the job... my neighbour and friend has vowed to take any drink off me, so i had to literally sneak out for the bevvy... he's a big bruiser so i had to watch out!!! would still love an absinthe... can't have it all my way tho'

best wishes to me friends, imaginary and real, but NOT mr hyde!

best wishes fae bonnie scotland ya bass.

  • @S1W2E3D, I would wait for 2-3 days, only if i had a re-inforcements to hand.i just don't have the patience god damn it! well, after all, my new years resolution is: to get as drunk as possible, as quick as possible, as often as possible, I'VE LIVED MY LIFE BY THAT RULE!!! oh, and i only binge drink to be sociable... and never eat on an empty stomache...

i could really go an absinthe and a couple o' dozen cans right now, with AL WILLIAMS-"I AM NOTHING" or JUDY HUGHES, FINE,FINE, FINE

  • We are not worthy of your highly specialised alcoholic contrivance shennanagins... why not just order the absinthe? how long do you leave your said mixture to mature? i'm terrible with home brew, i always drink it earlier than allowed... it's you damn you! it's you that has got me champing at the bit!!! I'M GONNA TELL MY MUM ON YAE!

MUM! THERES A BAD MAN ON THE NET!!!

  • @17soulable well i was thinking about letting the herbs sit in a container with 750ml of either moonshine or white rum for 5 days or so then add a couple hundred ml of honey i might drink it within the week or month depending on quality would this be a good idea? its my first time

  • @S1W2E3D I'm not really sure what you are up to, but

    1) rum's taste doesn't merge well with absinthe herbs

    2) 24 hours of soaking is enough, but if you don't distill the whole thing afterwards, then it's not going to be absinthe or anything remotely similar, but a very harsh and bitter tincture. It would also make you rather excited than drunk:)

  • @S1W2E3D, i've just worked out what your youtube name means, which explains why you want to know the name of this diabolical "tune"... you are a shape-shifting reptilian devil worshipping iluminated bilderberg groupee!... sorry sir, i've gone mad just thinking aboot the absinthe!!! yes, yes, i'm choking on a drink... mr hyde is becoming seriously pissed off with me...

STOP SMOKING THAT STUFF!!! IT'S BAD FOR YOU!!!

  • @17soulable haha i bet you read minds how the fuck did you know im illuminated..i thought you quit now your choking on one? DAMN-IT i want to make one from 63% white rum and 2 oz of ingredients i ordered from the internet

  • @S1W2E3D, "Don't pity me"-joannie summers, or "you can't mean it"-chapter 5.

who needs sherlock homes when i'm in da hoose... 6 weeks sober on thursday, but at "the breaking point"- deena johnson.

  • @17soulable none of those songs are the song you SOB but yeah im proud of you son it takes a lot to quit i bet you feel better than ever

  • what is this song...please?

  • for more information about absinthe, check out this documentary: absinthefilm. c o m

  • as an alcoholic- the chance of me sticking to any ritual with the absinthe- is nil. the bottle would reach my lips and i would take small sips at first, then later i would be swigging it "through a shitty cloot" like i do everything else, till i passed out-of course.

i get jealous of people who can drink a couple "for a glow" etc... lucky fucking bastards!!!

  • @17soulable quit pittying yourself im sending you on a mission to search for the name and artist of the song being played GO MY SON

  • @17soulable Even if you are an alcoholic, you should be near a hospital if you start taking swigs of absinthe. Unless you're used to doing that with 151 overproof rums and so on. If that's the case, then you have the fortitude and the freedom to do what you want.

  • the radiant glow of the absinthe while the sugar is being mixed in is.....

soo.....i cant think of the word....

  • aww dude how do u get rid of the alcoholic burger bun taste? :/

  • I just got some the other day and must admit it is a great experience ! The brand I ordered was already rather sweet and so I didn't see the need for extra sugar, but the drip method for filtered ice water helped a bit. I don't know why the Thujone is called a convulsant as it had the opposite effect on me, more like a very pleasant muscle relaxant ... and different than an alcohol effect. 2 shots was all I needed and I did not even feel drunk, just nice and warm !!! Ah, bliss !!!

  • If you can just drink the absinthe after you dissolve the sugar in it, why do some burn the sugar? Wouldn't that mess up the taste of the absinthe??

  • @vampygrl06 They do it because about 20 years ago, the Czech started to produce imitations that were too bad that they didn't even turn white when diluted, so they had to make up another spectacular "tradition" for them. Some ppl just won't understand that the "fire method" was made up for greenish vodkas tasting like aftershave.

  • @nalyib Thanks for the explanation. That was very helpful indeed. Those I've asked could never really fully explain what I asked you. Thanks again.

  • @vampygrl06 You are correct, it sure does. I guess that people do that because they either think that's the way it's supposed to be done or that they think it looks pretty.

  • Step one, pour Absinthe to top of glass. Step two, enjoy.

  • To get the most of drinking the Absinthe is to listen to the early Pink Floyd.Believe me.Cheers

  • Hey, how's this for artsy? I take a big plastic green cup, put some crushed ice in it, pour in the absinthe to my liking and mix it with diet ginger ale.

  • @JGD1985

I always mix ginger ale with my absinthe too. Great minds really do think alike.

  • @Drakkmar13

    Or good tonic water.

  • @Drakkmar13 I'm sitting here with a glass of Ginger-sinthe right now. Didn't know that it was that popular. :P

  • Beautiful.

  • Vivid called; they want their music back. Makes me suspicious on how the absinthe got so frothy white...

  • i drink it like a man, put bottle on freezer then unfreeze it in the cooler then its hella cold and shots shots shots.

  • @jeager22 You have a skewed and disillusioned definition of "manliness". You were thinking of "trendy" or "ignorant". When is a man ever supposed to blindly follow trends or boast of his own ignorance? No one in your own circle would even disagree with those statements.

  • what a bunch of garbage!

  • WHY WE SHOULDNET LIGHT THIS SHIT UP?

  • @NIVHERSHKO Lighting this shit up just burns the alcohol in the drink, reducing the drinks alcoholic content. It looks cool wen u burn it, but ur kinda killing it

  • @Paengakahurangi you have to cut it with sugarwater. you drank it straight you will grow horns and run naked down the street. lol

  • @NIVHERSHKO because you burn the alcohol, thus, burning the alcohol content!

  • 25 ppl are sugar burners

    very nice vid!

  • why people bad mouthin this stuff......if its so weak make a vid on u drinkin it straight

  • @killermikey67 cause it tastes like absolute shit if you drink it straight

  • @killermikey67 'Cuz if you spend such a lot money on booze you want to feel it's complete taste. That simple.

It isn't REALLY bad when drunk straight, but still a waste.

  • Why not use fire?! what's the effect?!

  • that looks like some bad ass absinthe

  • where can i buy a glass like that? i have pontarlier glasses but i love this one.

  • Absinthe fascinates me..there's something of magical in it...i want to drink it as soon as possible!:D anyway could u tell me the name of the song??

  • And then... CHUG A LUG MOTHERFUCKERS!

    WheeeeHaw!

  • @ezekieloak HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA JUCT CACKED MY SELF LAUGHING FROM THAT

  • I have a few questions. First, who do you recommend as a supplier of absinthe paraphanalia (spoons, etc)? Second, what is the device called that is dispensing the water? I like it because it is hard to pour the water in proper drops (as opposed to just pouring it) the way I'm doing it now. And lastly, I have heard some people say that it is improper to stir it before drinking. Is there a reason behind that? I have found absinthe and a pipe of good mixed tobacco a great way to end the day.

  • @PassingAutonomy It's called a "Farafaucet". Actually, it's just called an absinthe fountain.

  • in france you can't get proper absinthe

i get concentrate in small phials from spain, then add 95° alcohol

if you drink it with water it tastes quite like low grade pastis (or ouzo in italy)

  • @oibobbo If Roquette isn't proper enough for you, then go graze wormwood in the garden... I guess that would fit you better.

  • I need the song name.. someone reply to this message if they know it or find it..

  • 25 people put a cube of sugar onto their spoon and light it

  • Throw in some cold lemonade and you're done. This is just too tedious.

  • @melindagreenjeans You don't have a guess how quality absinthe tastes, do you.

@stevevandien It's abput 5 minutes with slow dripping. Doing it without a fountain teakes about 10-15 seconds, but you have to soak the cube a little before actually pouring down all the water, and you also have to stir up the sugar in the glass some more when finished.

  • @melindagreenjeans Have patience and live life with appreciation. The average attention span in Western culture used to be around 15 seconds. Now they say that it's only about 5 seconds long. No one takes time anymore.

I imagine that Hemingway, while waiting for a glass to perfectly louche, would set up his typewriter and review his notes. And as soon as the fragrance of anise hung over the side of the glass like fog and drifted into his nostrils, he knew when to drink.

  • @Filipeeno Western culture alone huh?

  • @xlxshanexlx A study I read. If you think it's the world, then it's the world.

  • How much time does the water-on-sugar process take? Just wondering if there's an average re. how many minutes it typically requires:) --

  • I use a carafe of ice cold bottled spring water (Fiji) and I pour it ever so slowly (to the drip) into a Pontarlier glass. I don't see the point in lighting up a sugar cube, except to be a pyromaniac.

  • Wormwood is a deliariant in the same category as beledona and madrake. It is mentioned in The Bible (so is Mandrake.) It would give you a buxx for sure if your drank enough. The leagal brand dosn't have much, though.I was popular among late19th century French "decadent" poets, and now among Goths.

  • what a beautiful looking drink.

  • that looks so supernatural

  • The best video on youtube about absinthe.

What kind of music is this?

    Or name of song?

    Thanks

  • Beautiful.

  • Classical! That's what it was like in Paris' 1900 bars.

  • Bohemian method burns the sugar cube...no reason to say NEVER try it. Just a different process and altered flavor. Some like it, some dont.

  • But I like fire :(...

  • Nice. The cloud at 1:00...... was what I was waiting for. Nice vid. Hope you enjoyed your ab-high.

  • its nasty but if fucks you up quick

  • this is the best absinthe video on youtube

  • Even Pernod Fils advertised the sugar method so sugar wasn't for helping bad absinthe....sugar was simply fashionable back then.

I usually don't sugar my absinthe, but I think it's a matter of taste... once I tried a verte with glucose...well, that was marvelous:)

  • if you have good absinthe you should never have to drip the water over sugar, sugar just hides the bitterness of bad absinthe

  • @locketom Dripping water over a sugar cube is the traditional way of drinking Absinthe. It has nothing to do with hiding the bitterness of bad Absinthes. You could buy the best Absinthe and this is the way it would be drank.

  • What's the purpose of "slowly dripping water"? Would it really effect the taste or is it just presentation/tradition?

  • @lexierokey Some say that 19th century sugar cubes were very hard to dissolve, so you had "bomb" it with dripping water like this.

I guess it doesn't affect the taste or the final louche at this level, but slowly forming louche looks nice.

  • @lexierokey from what i've seen in videos on youtube is something like "take you're time and enjoy it" which in the end is something that should be done with all things in life

  • hmm does absinth actually louche better if you drip the water over like that or is it the same as if you would just pour it from a can ??

  • This looks like some jade pf 1901 nicer louche and dripper

  • Dracula like Absinthe haha!!! Thumbs up if you like Absinthe :D

  • La Fée verte, magique, envoutante, qui a rendu des milliers d'hommes fous à cause de l'éthanol que l'on utilisait.

    La Fée est de retour.

A CONSOMMER AVEC MODERATION MAIS NON SANS PASSION....

  • the sugar cubes were just there for bad Absinthe, if you do that with a good class of Absinthe you'll ruin it.

  • .mansinthe peoria illinois

  • yes you must use sugar cubes.

  • Who is the artist of the music in this video?

  • Where i can buy that water tap fountain or whatever you call it?Cos can't make a perfect absinthe without one.Cheers

  • @Zodist

They're available all over the internet! I would check eBay, and online absinthe memorabilia retailers. I'm sure one exists that will ship to your locale. Be warned, however, that nice fountains can get quite expensive.

  • @TylerFknMetal Ok thanks for the reply.Cheers

  • Le Tourment is HORRIBLE!!!

  • DRINK IT

  • does the sugar is necessary when you buy a good quality absinthe?

  • @franckzua The sugarcube is really a matter of taste. i'd say try tasting your Absinthe both with and without sugar, since they taste differently. I personally prefer Absinthe without sugar. And never use fire! It ruins the Absinthe and serves no purpose other than "oooooh, fire, duh" effects.

  • dutiful

  • Beautifull it is..

  • @thechaosadept There are myths around moonshine as well. A uneducated person who uses an alluminum still may poison himself. A expert moonshine distiller makes a drink similar to the effect very high end polish or russian vodka with unique flavor. Sadly there is no true moonshine in the leagle market. It is only dangerous if one drinks too much.

  • ok im really new to this stuff so if i wanted could i just get some and put it in some coke or pepsi like jack or does it HAVE to be prepared a certain way? Some one who knows the answer plz plz plz i would appreciate an answer thanx =)

  • Of course you can prepare it however you prefer. It would probably taste terrible with cola. There are a few mix drinks that use Absinthe though.

Generally, Absinthe is mild enough, when prepared with the cold water, that no chaser is necessary. Another benefit of diluting with cold water, is that the oils come out of solution, so you get more flavor and aroma.

Absinthe is more like a sipping drink, than a shot drink.

  • oh ok, Im so new to this stuff. Im under age but in the army so I do drink and I want to know if i can put this stuff in something that would not ruin the taste while still dilute it some. like if im at a restaurant i cant buy a beer but I take my own alcohol to just put in what im drinking and Id like to know what it would go good with and how much so i dont get totally plastered.

  • @jimnumberuno Uhh yes, this video is exactly what Absinthe goes good with. That's it. Respect the tradition.

  • così si prepara !!! bravo !!! mi fanno ridere quelli che giocano con il fuoco !!!!

  • Absolutely perfect until you put the sugar cube on it. OUTSIDEGO's channel has a wonderful explanation on the true proper way to prepare a glass of absinthe.

  • :D you got it,,, @diegodanno

  • where did you get the music for this video.
