Both the English dub and and subs were good! I'm glad they made the ending a mystery yet it was indirectly happy. Japanese films/animes are so well put together. I always learn something new. :)

A big diffrence between English films and Japanese/Chinese films is that English films tend to have happy endings, whereas Japanese/Chinese films always have you crying with the most tragic endings.

Can't remember if I commented on this video or another one, but the whole idea of them ending it and not being romantic is because you can't undo the past, and you shouldn't waste the present/future.

Makoto had chances to be with Chiaki but kept blowing it off because she thought they'd have more time together and Chiaki didn't confess to her in the end because he thought their time was over.

The lesson is don't waste time, and don't do things half way because you can't go back in time.

You know what I think they should have done. Instead of the stupid baseball shit have it be Makoto standing in front of the painting ( when she was like her aunts age) the Chiaki would wake up and stand next to her that would have been super cute :)

They didn't kiss, because he doesn't realize his feelings for her, due to her time leaping back every time he finally does (the first confession, using his last charge to fix her mistake).

They had plenty of chances to be together through out the whole film, we only care about this one, because it was their last chance. Which is what the film is trying to illustrate, that we only have one chance and we have to make it count.

It's kind of funny (Not in a hahah way, but in a weird way) that Chiaki tried to tell Makoto he loves her many times, but she kept going back in time to avoid the conversation. And now she feels bad for not letting him express his feelings because she discovers she actually loves him too.

This ending is very appropriate given its strong cultural context. Remember that the action takes place in Japan; there the budding relationship boyfriend/girlfriend is much more subtile & high in context, although to the western eye, it may not appear so. Personally, the scene success relies heavily on M' s behavior: 1) her high anticipated expectation, 2) her disappointment and saving face pushing behavior, and mostly, 3) her heart-wrenching loud crying moment. Love was so simple at such age.

I love how their story develops, when he asks her out earlier in the movie, she got confused so she ran away from him (quite litterally in a sense). When she realized that he was gone, she realized how much she really loves him and ran after him (again, quite literally).

It's sad to see her cry like this. I would too if someone I liked did something like that and then disappeared.

I just don't get Chiaki. I like his character and all, and he overall doesnt know half the things he did because of time leaps, but Makoto had all the reason to cry. I would have been expecting him to tell me his feelings at that moment too, specially as at that point Makoto had developed feelings in return.
