  • Song makes you think, well at least I do and I am white but damn good and sad song.

  • My high school just performed The Grapes of Wrath last night, and we used all Woody Guthrie music. So great.

  • SLIPKNOT!!!!!

  • Awesome!!! I have never heard this version... thanks. Vinyl?

  • A brave fighter.

    Speaking out against capital punishment

was VERY unpopular in his day.

    Woody has my undying respect.

  • @shas1814 He wasn't only speaking against captial punishment, he was talking about lynchings and the use of the slipknot to keep blacks in their place, whether it was applied by a lawman or a lynch mob.

"Who makes the laws for that slipknot ... I don't know who makes the laws for that sllpknot". But the law let lynch mobs get away with what they did.

This is more an anti-lynching song than anti-death penalty. A man who's guitar kills evil doers is not likely to oppose capital punishment.

"He wasn't only speaking against captial punishment"

Well said, and thanks for the additional information.

I don't think Woodie's guitar literally killed anyone, though.

    Peace!

  • LMFAO!!

  • LOL!

  • I bought an old LP of his, and this was a favourite.

  • What a guy, Woody. What a jewel.
