i like the way you present new features: very quick overview and that's all. I can't stand watching these so damn long presentations and listening to guys trying to express their unnecessary opinions.
@bkroberts89 I used to think like you, but take your time, read documentation on how to install Arch on Wiki, and after two times you will see how easy it is :)
I've set it up quite a few times actually. And in comparison to other kernels like Ubuntu etc it's rather annoying to setup. But it's definitely worth the process. It's a lot like Kubuntu, but better and more fluid.
I would also like to ask what the music track is, it's really great. I notice the other guy who asked below ( m1ker) got no response. I only ask because I would like to get it but don't know the artist or track name. Thanks
@ComputerScientist01 It is one of the songs you can select when you use AudioSwap feature of youtube. It removes audio from your uploaded clip and replace it with song you select. I know that song it is in Electronic/Electro group, but I don't remember the name of the song! Sorry :(
Looks nice! Thinking to go install Linux Mint 11 KDE Edition once it is released... got the normal GNOME version right now, but I like the elegance of KDE. :D
@johonunu I agree that the new Gnome Shell sucks. There is still fallback mode, which I've been running for a while but it has it's problems and limitations. I am considering switching to KDE but I just love GTK too much.
@FrostArcaneMage I loved Gnome 2, but Gnome Shell is just stupid. It looks like it's made for tablets and not for desktop users. For now I am sticking to KDE, it works great and gets job done :)
@johonunu I agree completely. I've always used gnome until gnome shell came out. Gnome's main focus should be for DESKTOP users just like KDE is for desktops. If they wanted to get into touchscreen/tablet design they should've branched like KDE Active Plasma. Gnome 3 brought me to XFCE (which I've now come to favor over gnome2), but I'll be sticking KDE/AP on my ExoPC. (youtube search "active plasma")
@FrostArcaneMage You can still use GTK apps. While you are in KDE you are only bounded with plasma for desktop experience, you can choose not to use kde apps.
@josian220 yep, I installed KDE and realized that. KDE is better than I remember it being and it's alot nicer than Gnome3. But I recently decided to install the Gnome 2 Fork, Mate. I'm running it now, it's nice to see Gnome 2 again. Unfortunately it's a one man project so who knows how long it will last and how good it'll be.
@XareSoft It's KDE, that's why. Personally, I'm a programmer and I use Qt a lot (a C++ framework) which KDE is based on. But I don't really like to have this KDE bullshit shell. Dunno why, though. Love Arch. Would never change it!
KWin has seen the most dramatic improvements: for the first time, blur performance is on par with Windows 7, the new snap is 100x better than the old one, and I haven't even tested KWin GL 2 ES. It's not just KWin, though; memory consumption is somewhat rationalized. We'll have to wait until KDE 4.7.1 though; Nepomuk is under a massive rewrite, and KDE 4.7.0 or 4.7.1 can show a jump in performance and a massive decrease of memory used by Nepomuk.
@princeofpersiaize yes, kde now uses OpenGL ES. On my integrated intel card I don't see that much difference, but someone told me that Nvidia is working great now.
As for the icons, if you too thinks they are horrible you may revert to 4.6.2 oxygen them or download the *beautiful* Hycons iconset from KDE-Look.org (they're easier on eyes than 4.6.2 oxygen them yet holds of its spirit).
BTW, KDE on Arch y fucking awesome: thanks Andreas and the whole team!
I am running 4.6.3. I have Snap Boarders, I can minimise the clutter of dolphin like yours on 4.6.4 (mandriva) The Desktop effects settings is the same on 4.6.3... Although just checked again and I havn't got the Kickoff navigation or holidays in calender... i'll have to have another look at 4.6.4 when i boot into it to make sure aswell... (seperate harddrive)
@Linux4UnMe I know you have snap borders, but snap borders look like black rectangle and not using kde plasma theme. At least not for me. You can hide menubar in dolphin, but does it have screwdriver icon for "google chrome" like menu. I didn't noticed that too in kde 4.6. For desktop settings I am not that sure, it looked different :(
looks exactly like this for snap borders for me.... the dolphin thing does have the screw icon thing the same as this on 4.6.4... dunno if mandriva ported the feature from 4.7 though, but it's on 4.6.4. Theres a couple things here I don't have though like the calender holidays and kickoff navigation addon. :)

Is there a way to disable new snap borders without turning effects off?
armageddon9696 6 months ago
@armageddon9696 Go to System Settings->Desktop Effects->All Efects and disable "Outline" plugin. Now the snap borders will look like in KDE 4.6.
