If you're complaining about how they reimagined the track, then honestly I have no words for you. That's possibly the worst reason to dislike something, because they wanted to make their own expression on the composition.
Truthfully, this sounds extremely successful to me. I think it's fantastic in how atmospheric and attention-grabbing it is.
Take it for what it is on its own. Too different? That's got to be the least effective critique I've ever heard, and I've sat through alot of shitty ones. It's helpful to able to, as eloquently as possible, explain reasons why we may or may not enjoy something in order to be taken seriously, but with that comes the requirement of knowledge of the intricacies of language and in this case, music.
This is not Port Rhombus, sure. Placing it in the context of a concert hall (or whatever) and classicial musicianship is an excuse for dropping some of the key elements of this song.
Being as dense of a composition it is... there were plenty of options for giving meaning to why this was even done - elaborating on melodies, hanging on some, really speaking through the roots of these chosen instruments. Nah, we'll just play it like a midi file through the wrong gear and no drum track....
From this vantage, it's hard for me to hear and feel the bass. The upright player is definetly doin some sorta dance. The low end is simply not represented.
And yeah...I think what makes the tune killer is the smooth attack and balanced sound of the synth bass juxtaposed against the drum machine madness.
Secrettheatre you can say that you don't like these arrangment and that you don't like Squarepusher's music. But saying that it is empty... it seems that it's your brain who's empty!
(sorry for the bad joke but really Tom Jenkinson is not an empty musician).
Ha ha! Well, there's something of an irony in you bothering to comment on my comment, then. But you really shouldn't bring up the subject of emptiness with Buddhists... Peace, love and respect... and wishing you a full life...
couldn't really hear port rhombus in there. original is definitely much faster. i totally respect groups like alarm will sound who've done a good job at trying to recreate this kind of stuff, but this was a little mediocre

The amount of people unwilling to allow this orchestra to do some experimenting of their own is amazing.

These arrangements do nothing more than show up the emptiness of this kind of music. Embarrassing.

"These arrangements do nothing more than show up the emptiness of this kind of music. Embarrassing."
I'm sure this was their reasoning in covering it.
Perhaps you could email them depicting the emptiness of a life spent commenting on internet videos, I wonder how they would spin that one.

I made no attempts at distinguishing myself from something of 'emptiness' quality; the irony is with you.

hahaha, emptiness.. i think input from your ears is not connected to your brain
