  • If you're complaining about how they reimagined the track, then honestly I have no words for you. That's possibly the worst reason to dislike something, because they wanted to make their own expression on the composition.

Truthfully, this sounds extremely successful to me. I think it's fantastic in how atmospheric and attention-grabbing it is.

  • has anyone ever heard of individual interpretation? well this this theirs and its gorgeous, in my opinion.

  • The amount of people unwilling to allow this orchestra to do some experimenting of their own is amazing.

  • ohh i dont like it.... :( too different

but arrangements on aphex twin by the alarm will sound are super!!!

  • @fastmallets21

Take it for what it is on its own. Too different? That's got to be the least effective critique I've ever heard, and I've sat through alot of shitty ones. It's helpful to able to, as eloquently as possible, explain reasons why we may or may not enjoy something in order to be taken seriously, but with that comes the requirement of knowledge of the intricacies of language and in this case, music.

  • This is not Port Rhombus, sure. Placing it in the context of a concert hall (or whatever) and classicial musicianship is an excuse for dropping some of the key elements of this song.

Being as dense of a composition it is... there were plenty of options for giving meaning to why this was even done - elaborating on melodies, hanging on some, really speaking through the roots of these chosen instruments. Nah, we'll just play it like a midi file through the wrong gear and no drum track....

  • the visuals were even better in the Berlin performance i went to.

  • F.A.I.L.......

  • theres no beats or bass in it init? soz fail ! this one of my fave tunes didnt do it justice im afraid

  • this just isn't it... I'd like to award this attempt the infamous FAIL award.

  • hmm. something's missing.

  • did rdj arrange this? surprising... i bet he could really kick ass with an orchestra...

  • why would you bring up him here. this is fuckin squarepusher man, rdj can go take a nap

  • hilarious

  • From this vantage, it's hard for me to hear and feel the bass. The upright player is definetly doin some sorta dance. The low end is simply not represented.

And yeah...I think what makes the tune killer is the smooth attack and balanced sound of the synth bass juxtaposed against the drum machine madness.

  • uhm. lacked the "oomph"

  • Port Rhombus is all about the BASS, this arrangement doesnt have ANY of it, but its still ok i guess

  • i have such a connection to this song....this just ruins it for me

  • there isn't a bigger squarepusher fan than me...

    this arrangement blows

  • Secrettheatre you can say that you don't like these arrangment and that you don't like Squarepusher's music. But saying that it is empty... it seems that it's your brain who's empty!

(sorry for the bad joke but really Tom Jenkinson is not an empty musician).

  • you're both buttholes...yuppy scum...

  • Oh undoubtedly so.

  • These arrangements do nothing more than show up the emptiness of this kind of music. Embarrassing.

  • "These arrangements do nothing more than show up the emptiness of this kind of music. Embarrassing."

I'm sure this was their reasoning in covering it.

Perhaps you could email them depicting the emptiness of a life spent commenting on internet videos, I wonder how they would spin that one.

  • Ha ha! Well, there's something of an irony in you bothering to comment on my comment, then. But you really shouldn't bring up the subject of emptiness with Buddhists... Peace, love and respect... and wishing you a full life...

  • "Ha ha! Well, there's something of an irony..."

I made no attempts at distinguishing myself from something of 'emptiness' quality; the irony is with you.

  • hahaha, emptiness.. i think input from your ears is not connected to your brain

  • couldn't really hear port rhombus in there. original is definitely much faster. i totally respect groups like alarm will sound who've done a good job at trying to recreate this kind of stuff, but this was a little mediocre
