Sickle mowers are still used today to cut tall grass for hay, ditch lines, medians, and tree lines but they are run by tractors. This sickle mower I imagine would have been used on a small yard maybe closer to the city or even in the city and I am sure it did a better job than the rotary blade push mowers around the same time, for taller grass and weeds that is. I have a rotary push mower that uses gears in the wheels but it only works well on low grasses and I never use it but to remember that
Dear ocf, I tried to upload jpg but don't see them yet. There are easier and better ways to run a cycle bar. You may be able to make one but probably not for a few hundred $ that I might take for this one.
i love it. do you have any high qual pictures or it that I could get? would love to have pictures from all angles and close ups, any way that i might be able to get those? I collect any and every old human power tool i can find, not going to ask if you will sell it but i think i could build a modern one if i had some good pictures. let me know if you could one way or the other
It's not a good grass cutter. The blades are original as far as I know and I have not sharpened them. The wobble drive has enough play in it that the throw is not long as original. It does cut but not well.
I have cut some grass with it. It probably did a lot better when new and had a slightly longer stroke. I can see why a reel type replaced it. Fighting the momentum to reverse direction is a problem compared to continuous motion of reel or rotary.
Thats awesome. Never heard of one those. Thanks for sharing.

I'll look in to the Dr. Phil thing. That could be my claim to fame.

You are absolutely right. A lot of work and did a lousy job. Little wonder they were replaced by reel mowers. jd
