  • this is the grown and sexy version!!lol

  • Michael Jackson's version was the best.

  • @LeBigMoneyShow when I first heard Marvin's version, I didn't realize that they were the same song, cause Marvin made it his own, like he would, it wasn;t tell I heard this, that I thought, WOW...so they are all good just different in their own right, well except this version, Marvin's straight up copied it....Peace L.

  • @headedsomewhere lol silly marvin did not copy his version is not even the whole song. seriously if you knew anything about the i wanyt you album you would know that leon ware was the producer and songwriter for the album along with t boy ross

  • WILLI HUTCH WROTE FOR MOTOWN AND WROTE WITH LEON AS WELL

  • leon ware wrote this song for mike? nice

  • @feedingmegrapes: IIRC, Ware wrote the entirety of i want you. it was meant to be his debut album, but Gordy forced him to turn it over to Gaye. Gordy tried to do the same again with the album this track is from (musical massage), but Ware refused. As punishment, Gordy put out the album but didnt promote it, and it flopped.

  • thumbs up for the visual of the album cover :)

oh and i love the song too. classic!

  • ;-)

  • Ohah! Michael of childhood sometune.

  • 2 all who don`t know.... he is the songwriter, the others just covers his songs. he `s one of the biggest writers of the 70`s, and still is. also wrote Maxwell´s "sumphin`sumthin"..

  • @ernolazlo1604 IT IS NOT A COVER IF HE WROTE IT FOR THEM

  • check out " ZULEMA " doing this on Soul Train......another great rendition (hard to mess up such a good song)

  • Magic

    Peace&Music

  • marvin gaye also does this tune on "I Want You", which was produced by Ware I think.

  • You are correct!

  • Chris:

I have this on my ipod...

come to my apartment, and we can listen to it, with our shirts off :)

  • did he cover the jackson 5 song or did they copy him ??

wicheva...J5's version is soooo much betta !

  • @shaneele Leon Ware wrote his own songs!

  • The Michael Jackson version is a lot better than this track.

  • lol

  • piss off u ignorant prick

  • the beat is so funky i could sing to this and sell records and i cant carry a note....hell i cant carry a bag

  • bulls-it

  • Wasnt this marvin's on the i want you LP....

  • what year was?

  • 1976, taken from the album 'Musical Massage' as pictured above.

  • thanks for posting ive been looking for this

  • I like this version as well as the version he wrote for Marvin Gaye "I Want You album ,Classic, Timess

  • This guy got shafted by Berry Gordy - wrote so many hits for Motown and got no respect. I guess 'That's Why He Came To California'!!

  • To be fair though; who didn't get shafted by Berry Gordy :) Sad, but true.

  • Yeah although beinf fucked over by Berry Gordy was not uncommon in the world of Motown, look what he did to the Funk Brothers.

  • Too sloppy. I love the Jackson 5 version- but I was expecting a more funky horn sound to Leons.

  • The best version of "I Wanna Be Where You Are" is by Willie Hutch, from his "Fully Exposed" LP (1973).

  • No Way!!! I like this version then MJ's much better than the "great" Willie hutch's rendition.

  • there is little hope for you if you hate on the hutch

  • God, imagine if Marvin really took the time to sing the hell out of this song like he did with other Leon Ware music. Leon helped Marvin create some classic music back in his day. The Jackson's version was great as well!

  • Marvin did sing this song on the "I want you" album" to bad it it just ended up on the record as a minute long interlude. He sang it to his kids

  • If possible try to get the deluxe 2CD edition of Marvin's "I want you." It has the full 6 minute version of interlude. It's mostly Marvin harmonizing but it's still great. But the true treasure of this song is an unreleased alternative version called "After the dance" (Bit it's NOT the one we're all familar with) This alternative take has the music from "I wanna be where you are," but with totally different and ORIGINAL lyrics!!! I loved it the second I hear it! Check it out for yourself!

  • This dude helped Marvin create a classic imo

  • Excellent. This song was recorded for the first time by Michael Jackson, in his first solo album "Got To Be There" (1972).

  • fantastic track - so smooth - typical of this genius' music

  • Jeezus.. This Album Title fits the way this comes pouring out the speakers!!

  • I love this classic 70s smooth soul!

  • Hoo-whee! With the album art they had back in the days I'm surprised we didn't have parental advisory labels earlier!

  • Michael Jackson did a version of this too. Just dig the lyrics and you'll know.....This is hot and it only makes sense that J5 covered this. Go on Mr Ware!!!

  • I saw Marvin Gaye's first public performance of "I Want You' at a Church benefit in San Francisco. The stage was set up like a nightclub and was full of dancers and backround singers in evening clothes. Marvin made his entrance with his head shaved (Because of Hurricane Carter) shocking the Cow Palace crowd. I'll never forget that show

  • Wow, i wish i could have seen him...

  • Yes, you would've liked it. Marvins opening act was Quicy Jones making his first appearence after surviving brain surgery, I remember his choir doing "Everything Must Change" among other songs. Thank You, Hearing Leon Ware provided a missing link to the great "I Want You" album.

  • I saw pictures of that. That didn't last long either. LOL By "Soul Train" 1977, not only had his famous beard returned but he had grown a 'Fro! LOL :)

Oh...and I believe Marvin is singing in the background of this. ;)

  • I hear that a Marvin Gaye movie will begin filming soon. About Time!

  • @bnetwise awesome memory..

  • I can hear his influence on the "I Want You" album. Great!! Thank You.

  • Im actually a Marvin Gaye fanatic :-) and it was said that the whole "I Want You" album was going to be put out by Leon Ware himself but when he and the head of Motown heard Marvin Gaye SANG a few cuts, Leon just took credit as producer on majority of the tracks along with T-Boy Ross (Diana's brother)

  • There's actually a full version on the alternate sides from Marvin.

  • right, the marvin version is such a tease, but its just an interlude, which he is the man for. this is the bomb diggity homie.

  • great

  • i love this thank you.

  • I have a brief, teaser version of this song on Marvin Gaye's 'I want You" LP. I take it that this recording came out first. Sounds so good. Nice surprise.
