Dragon ball z isn't inspired by this. This is inspired by the Chinese novel Journey to the West and so is Dragon Ball. Essentially they are created off of the same character though. Sun Wu Kong or Son Goku. The character and story is also used in the manga/anime Saiyuki.
lol asganistan I was like"wtf he is talking about lol" by the way forbiden kingdom is a good USA movie but the real story of monkey King is way way way way way better (well you canot compare!) and I am french so I just discover this by myself. Go read the book people :D
@Lysiam Forbidden Kingdom was the worst chinese mythology affiliation movie ever made. Seriously i mean the hero is white? So cliche in american productions. Thats like if someone made a movie on Zeus and he was east asian ethnicity. It just doesn't fit.

Let me explain this; if you are looking for a blockbuster movie which mean a typical hollywodian script it can be enought for the viewer. @mrbeate the lead character was an asian! the white kid was just a kid delivering the monkey his staff a lesson by going through the story, the only time he won a "major" battle was against the kid at the end of the movie. The asians won everything else. Unless you count the part where he stood there as the dagger pierced the main villain. As I recall the monkey king did all the fighting. I doubt any of the asians in the movie cared either, including jackie chan who started out in chinese opera.
@Duanaces The leading role was a white kid. The story revolved around him returning the staff. Monkey King only came at the end. Jet Li and Jackie Chan were just supporting roles. What if i made a movie on hindu gods, and the main god was a white guy? Or if i make a movie on Greek myths and have the leading role a black guy? It doesn't fit, thats not how the people portray it.

Same with the new karate kid movie when Its clearly kung fu.

Those are the Heavenly Kings of the four directions. At most Buddhist temples in Asia, they stand at the entrance, two to each side. Buddhists bow to them upon entering, because they have the specific task of guarding Buddhist sutras and protecting the people who believe in those sutras. Not too sure why they're colored darkly here. Seldom have I seen them painted that way. Peace out.

It's an old movie produce in China called "Da Nao Tian Gong" (Havoc in Heaven). You can buy it dvd from ebay, but it has no Eng subs.
