  • my grandfather was a minister who loved to sing and play this on the piano in church. as he was passing away in icu i played this to him and i could tell he wanted to sing and rejoice. great song . i love u papaw

  • From a man, me, that cannot carry a tune in a bucket, I feel this music in my heart and sing it in my spirit with these singers. They sing exactly the way I would love to be able to sing to my Father God and elder brother Jesus. In fact, I pray I can praise them this way for eternity, EXACTLY like these singers, ALL of them.

  • i like davids pitch at 3:45 - 3:48!!!!! so high

  • 2:55 - 3:01 the guy inte yellow jacket just saw Jesus for a few seconds when David took his note!

  • It was an High F, I have a piano here. awesome!

  • The guy in yellow suit sitting beside David was speechless looking at David 2:54

  • The guy in yellow suit sitting beside David was speechless looking at David 2:54 whoooooo

  • pidele ahora que llegue a ese tono...

  • Ooooohweee!!!! Amazingness!!!!!!

  • Old man in the chair at 2:25 = <3! Get it, David Phelps!

  • @oihanen that's rex nelon. legend!

  • @oihanen That's Rex Nelon, bass singer for the Nelons before he went on to sing bass in Gods choir.

  • Hahahaha! I hadn't got to 2:15 yet when I made that first comment. The one at 2:15 was spectacular! Really laughed that time! Thanks again!!!!!! And then we get David! wooo hooooo!!!!!

  • Wow! This really gave me a good chuckle at 1:00 when Stephen did his little glissando - tickled. I haven't heard him before but I liked him right off when I heard him slither down to the tonic. That was definitely a little tickle. Thanks again, Hoover!

  • WOW everytime he sings ans hits a high note it gives me goosebumps!

  • its F5 :)

  • Amazing voice!

  • i'd also like to point out that he is sitting down hitting these notes...not fair.

  • Is this really about praising God anymore, or trying to show off vocal range?

  • @wcr4 it's a great song and great performance. whether it's showing off or not, God will be the judge of that, not us :)

  • Comment removed

  • Chill out guys David sings high! And he does it good. He's the best because he doesn't sound like a female....love you David :)

  • as anyone ever got by a piano and played the note he is singing??? if so you would see that it is a F5. people these days..

  • The thing is, yes it's an F, but it's not in full voice. That's a reinforced falsetto. Listen to the difference in timbre between the other notes he hits leading up to it and the F. Totally different.

  • @joecool6792 You're talking about Stephen Hill, right?

  • Stephen Hill makes me smile. When he's just in the background singing with the group he doesn't show any emotion but when he has a solo piece he sings with a ton of character.(: OneKewpie

  • david is amazing...

  • Most Def! an F5

  • @Dusthill84 That's Denise. Former pianist of The Hoppers

  • Who's the blonde beside Steve Hill at the end that gives David a "what the heck?" look at the end? hmmmm

  • why do people doubt it is an F5 it is david phelps he is another level of singing he is the worlds greatest

  • Amazing...Thank you Jesus!!!!

  • @strzalka211 that is totally a F5 by David Phelps. Play it on any piano and find out for yourself!

  • strzalka 211 ...search on google wikipedia .."david phelps" and there talks about his voice and there it is written.. the lowest note ever recorded by him is E2 in Just as I am ...and the highest note is F5 from " when God dips his love" ..(take a look)

  • I have the feeling as if all souls of the whole continet of America sang this song in united together as a holy christian nation.. oh America what has become of you..

  • what a joy would it gbe to be there with those brethren

  • wow

  • and to hit that note sitting down! WHOA!! Fabulous!

  • OH MY GOODNESS 3:48

  • @strzalka211 go find a piano and figure it out yourself, if you KNOW what a C5 sounds like, you'll hear David singing way higher than that!! =/

  • @ strzalka211 did you listen any further than 2:54 you're right there .

but go further to 3:47 and what is that note called........? F5!!!!!!!!

  • @ strzalka211 did you listen any further than 2:54 you're right there .

but go further to 3:47 and what is that note called........? F5!!!!!!!!

  • yeah.....thick whistle register. Flageolet as they call it. Most of the time he's living in thick middle voice and high mix. But that's rad. I can't cry hard enough and hold that much weight in that register to make it sound full. It's all about the cry.

  • my my my he hit that note i love davids voice =)

  • 3:47 is F5...:)

  • beautiful notes !!! specially the last one F5

  • Beautiful song, these singers are so blessed

  • Well whatever note it is, it was INCREDIBLE, and much better than ANYTHING I could have ever done! David Phelps is one of my favorite singers, and I really don't care what those say about whether or not it's an F or a D, David is using his incredible talent to bring honor and glory to the lord! And I admire him for that! Use what God gives you! :)

  • wow, three years this video has been posted and people are still debating about the F5 note, or saying (or in some cases boasting) about hitting the voice in full voice. First off, if you focus so much on what notes he hits, you've totally missed the point of the song. Second, those of you that boast of high you can sing, I'm frankly quite tired of it, its complete arrogance. Sorry if I stepped on toes, it just bothers me. Be thankful what God has given you, He gave you the gift, use it.

  • @singitagainjoe25 Amen! I doubt God cares about the notes, this is a beautiful and amazing song and it touches my heart, makes me yearn for Heaven. Thank you for getting people back on track on what the meaning of this song really is.

  • i can't belive ...very good

  • Yes, definitely David Phelps is sing F5 at 3:46. I compared it with the keyboard app I have on my itouch.

  • Ok Guys I m a classical Lyric Tenor and sing High Ds,.. High Fs in full voice! I m talking about REAL HIGH Ds HIGH Fs not that crap from here!

  • @LYRICTENORHIGHF I went to your channel for a listen, and was able to easily confirm that David's F5 is both fuller in voice and power than your C5's or D5's. That's just how amazing David is. Keep at it though.

  • David Phelps is also a classical Lyric Tenor. He also has more humility and see's his voice as a gift from God. According to your posting, I'd say you posses either!

  • @LYRICTENORHIGHF I'm sure God appreciates you calling his praise through beautiful singing and worship crap. It doesn't matter who hits certain notes, the only thing that matters is worshiping God.

  • @LYRICTENORHIGHF Such a Christian attitude you have. I doubt God would call his songs of praise "crap", but you do what makes you feel good. Thank you for posting this song, they are the most amazing singers I've ever heard. Such a blessing from God.

  • @LYRICTENORHIGHF

LOL I've checked your High F on your profile...

    It's sounds 100% Falsetto..!!!!

Sorry even David F's here sound more Chest and nice than yours.

Even Stevie Wonder hit better Hich F than you (he sounds chest)

Don't critize just because you sing opera.

That doesn't make you better singer than David

  • I love to hear Stephen sing! A powerful voice! thanks Hoover!

  • @ladytxlove Actually...Steven sings most of his high notes in falsetto...not much power. David is a different story.

  • I knew it was F5 by the way everyone sings it. How the basses resonate a good "Hallelujah", and how David sings the other parts. I always listen to him that I have an idea of how high a note is just by listening to his voice. Plus, I have good relative pitch and sometimes absolute pitch. :-)

  • Very Wellllllllllllllllllllllll !!!!

  • i love how david doesn't stand. true wisdom, and understanding. glory to god

  • I don't care if it's a Z5 it's a God given note and he is using it for his Glory

  • if it was his head voice he wouldnt have needed that much effort and support to produce the sound plus the fact it lacked vibrato, definately his full voice and wow.

  • rrt

  • oh:)) a little F5 there...in full chest voice listen to the slide down...and is not the only F5 that i hear from him:D...that's not head voice:) and in the song "just as i am" there's a C# not even a D

  • Non believer but David is incredible.

  • It's an F5. You can't change the keys in music--they are what they are...

  • who knows? i think its a mixed voice. we can all agree that stephen is head voice all the way though. lol

  • Does anyone have this exact recording for mp3 download

  • i love how everyone looks at him like,

    "O M G", hilarious...Oh, wonderful David! you never let me down! :)

  • i love everyone looks at him like "O M G"....hilarious! awesome David Phelps never lets me down :)

  • David got to be the best male singer in the world today. And with an incredible chest voice!

Not many male singers can reach a F5!

  • noup that note from just as i am ...it's a C#5 ....here in this song the highest note is F5!! listen from 3:46 to 3:50 :D he can't do that in present:D hes struggle at C#

  • David Phelps' voice is always amazing, but he was at his best here at the Ireland concert in my opinion. Other songs at this event featuring David include 'Singin' with the Saints,' 'Child You're Forgiven' and I''ll Fly Away.'

  • It's definitely an F above High C. I checked it against my piano. David Phelps is insane when it comes to high tenor notes.

  • Haha look at the guy next to Phelps at 2:58!! He's totally lost..

  • yup, definitely an f. Also definitely head voice...very strong head voice, but head voice all the same. I think david's highest full-voice note is Eb5, that's the big one he slides up to in "just as i am" if you want to listen.

  • in "just as i am" he slides up to C#5

  • Na mate you mean "I`ll fly away".....Just as I am is a C#....lol

  • in "just as i am" david slides up to a C#5, not Eb5

In "I'll fly away" david hits an Eb5

  • @RandomZydeco , that's in head voice too it's just mixed more than that high f...everything above an F3 incorporates head voice.

  • @RandomZydeco the one in just as i am is Db , and i'm sorry to dissapoint you'all, but david is using mix all the time, just as wes...wes told me this at a concert.....though a mix like phelps' is unique

  • that's a Db.

  • lol. I feel really bad for Stephen Hill in this video. He's a got a nice voice, but David schools him so hard. lol. His face at 3:30 ish is hilarious. XD

And that's definitely a High F. It's thin and WAY less resonant than the rest of his performance here, but it's there.

  • Amazing ! Praise GOD !!!

  • who is the woman sitting by david. Is that his wife?

  • no it's candy hemphill christmas, another christian singer

  • @hoover4000 I agree with you hoover

  • That is Candy Christmas Hemphill

  • This is the highest I've heard David go,.. a high F5,.. a great feat for any tenor without going into falsetto!

  • The Highest Note in this video is C5 and D5, there isn't F5......

  • many people have said its an F, i believe it is

  • You stand correct. He's hitting the high octave...

  • Yes, it is a F5 in the minute 3:47.

It's not full voice (chest) but head voice with some falsete I guess.

It's not phisically possible for a man to make a full (chest) voice in that range. The late and great Pavarotti did a C5, full voice and was front page in every news paper!!

  • @guzmanvoip

Are u sure? What about Stevie wonder and a Tonex...they belt beyond D5 in Real Chest.

  • @hoover4000 You are correct. It is an F5.

  • The not is indeed an F. However, it is sung in Davids head voice and not his chest voice. He is such a trained artist that he can seamlessly go from one to the other without notice.

  • strzalka211...Listen to the reprise...David most certainly hits an F5. Perhaps you didn't listen all the way through.

  • The note from 3:46 to 3:50 is F5.

  • I don't know.....seems like Christians would be rejoicing over the meaning of the song rather than the note the singer is or isn't hitting....But that's just me...

  • i agree with u..let us all be together in Christ..and embrace what this singer has..i love his voice..and his songs..

  • According to Wikipedia, it is indeed an F5.

  • You clearly have no knowledge of notes, pitches, or music in general. Save your comments for people who don't know anything. It's definitely an F

  • @strzalka211 Not to be a dork for replying to such an old post, but the F5 is at 3:46.

  • @strzalka211 My pitch pipe says it's an F.

  • It`s an F.... Believe me lol

  • @strzalka211 find a piano and figure it out yourself, if you KNOW what a C5 sounds like, you'll hear David singing way higher than that!! =/

  • @strzalka211 its definitely F

  • @strzalka211 At 3:45 it is an F5

  • @strzalka211 Stephen hits an F at 2:18

  • @strzalka211 Stephen hits an F at 2:18, and David sings one at 3:46

  • The great part is, I was drinking coffee and didn't know about the last high note and it scared me half to death. I screamed and almost dropped it! God bless you David to continue to use your gift for His glory!!! And an awesome job by Rex Nelon I must say!! I can really hear him! When God blesses, He blesses!

  • These people are incredible !! I believe that was the 20th steps up from middle C that David hit !! A very high F. WOW ! And what a picer-upper song too. !

  • David.... I like David....

  • where are they gathering and why?

  • I BELIEVE I "believe" this is the one from Ireland. Am I right Hoover4000?

  • yes :)

  • did i really hear that note at the end?!?! oh my my my my my!

  • Awesome song and voices!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG, I LOVE THIS SONG, I LOVE THIS SONG. BOTH STEPHEN AND DAVID HAVE BEAUTIFUL VOICES. This song touches to the soul of a person. Praise God for any and all who will lift up our Lord and Savior. To God be the Glory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great job from David Phelps but I sure do like Stephen Hill. Stephen does a great job on this song.

  • 2:27 low note very beatiful

  • lawl what i want to know is why he has two thumbs down...are low notes not beautiful anymore?!

  • david phelps you voice is very beautiful.. thank´s for the song´s

  • what dvd is this on, hoover? please

  • that guy in the mustard suit staring at him at about 2:56 going "what the heck" and then he rocks the F5 just to say, "you ain't seen nothin' yet buddy" unbelievable voice! If he sang anything but Gospel he'd be world famous. Comendable on his part to use his gift for God's glory and not cash in like so many others have in the past.

  • LOL on the guy in the mustard suit. i watched it and he it looks like in his mind hes saying:

    woah. xD

  • Also worth noting:

Both Gloria Gaither and Jake Hess

have the best seats for this song:

Gloria turns around to hear David @ 2:53

Jake turns around to hear David @ 3:46

    Having this Video is wonderful.

Being there so close to hear it ... LIVE ...

    ... priceless ...

  • @jcgohl

Yes that is funny. I keep watching that part and that gentlemen kinda just sits there looking... I said this before I would imagine on solo parts it is easy to forget your turn watching Phelps sing.. so amazing a voice.

  • great song and voice! davids range is so high! i wish...someday haha

  • 3:43 is unbelievable!

that has to be the highest note i have ever heard a guy hit without going into his falsetto. I can barely hit it in my falsetto, but i AM a bass, lol.

  • haha!

  • wooooooooooooooooooooo, David Phelps is great....

  • omg omg his voice is sick im soo jealous god blessed him with that amazing voice....i wish i could sing like him :(

  • who is the older bass singer they keep showing thats sitting in the chair? i always see him in older videos and dont know who he is

  • the one at 2:30? that' the late Rex Nelon

  • its amazing how many people know what an F5 is after finding this video through the Wikipedia David Phelps page :P

  • its on the wikipedia david phelps page? i didnt even know that lol

  • lol yeah i know but david is so kool... one of my most favourite male gospel role models...

  • God is great!

  • W0W DaviiD PHelpsS SInging Master

  • What the F5?!!!!! ;-)

David Phelps will always blow my mind, no matter how many times I hear him sing. Indeed, Phelps is the man!

  • Wow...david phelps is the MAN

  • thats like an....F5!?!? i love this dude....

  • W O W!!!! I love David Phelps... He is awsome

  • AHAHAHA!!!! High F? ish:) wow.... I can't stop smiling now, that was incredible.

  • damn did you hear that note imso shocked yea

  • then after awhile he like looks at him and is still in shock! haha of course I would be too, sitting right next to him!

  • hahaha, the guy sitting to David Phelp's right was like "what the heck.... OH SNAP IM SUPPOSE TO SING! RIGHT! tell it to a living soul! how it brought salvation when it makes me whole"

  • ROFL!!! I just noticed that.... but I would imagine that most that sit next to David Phelps become like folks in the audience. Simply listening to those great pipes of his.

  • :)) reaction of guy in yellow is pricelss when david sings

  • LOL saw it!.. i laughed to tears seeing that expresion.. thx for pointing it out.. God bless =)

  • David Phelps is Fantastic!

  • I love this song.

  • One of the best songs by Stephen Hill!

  • Which homecoming is this??

  • you know, after poking around on youtube, I'm surprised that this hasn't been brought up. Has anyone noticed that this song is basically plagiarism of "Just a Little Talk with Jesus?" Or is it supposed to be the same tune? The melody is almost exactly the same. Unless it is meant to be sung to a similar tune, with credit given to Cleavant Derricks, in which case I apologize.

  • Dudeee, this song is oldd. It's in like, old old hymn books. lol.

  • Hoover, is this from the Irish Homecoming? I live in Ireland, I think I recognise the place where it was filmed- it is the Belfast Metropolitan Tabernacle?

  • I get something new everytime I watch this! Look at 3.00, I love David's wee vocal trill. Also, just before David's first sustained note, it looks like he has just kicked Gloria, and at the end of that sustained note, look at the guy to his left in the mustard yellow jacket. Awesome. I love David, he is fantastic. And the HIGH NOTE!?! wow

  • One of the Best David Phelps High notes! Love this video =) Min 3:46

  • there is a video on here on a all bass quartet...imagine an all tenor group up ernie haase, david phelps, danny funderburk, and either stephen hill, kirk tally, wes hampton or jay parrack....thatd be a HECK of a cd!!

  • Comment removed

  • I really laughed!!! He was soo gone and then eventually he comes back to reality. Lol!!!!

  • hahahahhaah!!! Thats great! lol!!!

  • lol from 2.56 to 3.01

look at the man with the yellow jacket.

    he seems to be disorientate!

come on man...it is real!!! :D

  • what DVD is this from??

  • the tenor sounds a lot like vince gill

  • ha- yea he really does

  • Vince only wishes he sounded like Stephen!! - One of the best tenors around!

  • that is choice!

lol at 3:53 when half are clapping 1s and 3s the other half 2s and 4s.

  • @3:45.... YEEHAW.... David's amazing!

  • I love howard goodman's reaction! its so cute

  • Hahahaha that bass is the polar opposite of David Phelps :P

And, I like it that at some parts people just look at David like: dammit, you do this all the time, stop upstaging us!

Is it just me or does he seem like one of the people who sings ALL THE TIME out of nowhere? I have a friend in choir like that who is good, but dammit he just sings non-stop.

But, all in all, wow Phelps is amazing and thank you for the video.

  • i know what you mean bout he pops from knowhere lol....look at the dvd "heaven" the last song on tha he just stands up and blasts one out from knowhere lol...awesome

  • I think about it in the way that David Phelps was kinda the workhorse of the Homecoming Team. Maybe it's just me.
