She performs the prettiest Markelov. She does it such symmetry, correct height, and smoothness. WHen other gymnasts are doing it, it appears that they are overly hecting over the bar, with their bottoms leading high in the air. I have not seen another gymnast other that Khorkina really sell this release move.

I can assure you, she is only 5'5". The bars themselves are not that high off the ground. I believe the high bar is only approximately 8 feet off the ground. She looks taller because a) she's skinny; b) most gymnasts are around 5 feet or shorter and; c) the equipment is not as large as most people think.

That's true that she is 5'5" but that is very tall for gymnastics and there have been taller gymnasts but they have not had the same successes that Khorkina had. Also, the angles they use to broadcast, usually from below, makes the bars look much larger.

Yes, she had variety in her routines, but her UB routine looked the same from 1996 to 2004. I wish she would have changed the dismount. She was too tall to do a double-layout, but she could have done a double front or double front with a half or double-double.

It always blows me away to see such a tall, lean gymnast almost hit her feet on the low bar when on the high one. Im a tall gymnast, and all odds are against me . ( I live in canada) no canadian gymnast has ever won the AA title. Have they?

I don't know, our gym didn't let us wear grips until level 8, so if you slowly build up, your hands get used to it...

and you save money! :)

also, without grips, you get a better feel for the bars. very tough to achieve! i dont know how many "steaks" (thats what we called blisters on hands in our gym) she must've suffered before her skin became tough enough... i remember the pain, especially when you have to go back on the bar with a sore rip on your palm..

As sweet and dynamic and difficult shawn's gymnastics is, Liukin has the old school gymnastics presence, nobility and elegance that used to be so important in our sport, combined with some very beautiful, difficult and original skills. I hope she does her best possible. She looked slightly unfit at the american cup, that's good tho, her father knows over training too early can lead to injury just before the competition.

I agree with you, but I think that Shawn has the entire package.. she is clean and great on every event.. Nastia lacks in areas and she never really seems to put it all together.. Shawn has almost always put everything together and I really hope she wins the AA at the olympics. Nastia is elegant but Shawn is powerful and has what it takes!
