  • 6:17 what's with the Lada logo ?

  • I wanna do drifting, got no car for it and no economy, so it's going to be hard :P

  • Please make more videos like this. I always wondered what is hiding behind sponsorship in racing world :)

  • This was soooo much better. Good Job Leo!

  • If i have to listen to that same bass line again I'ma start my car in the garage...

  • definitely want to hear some more! what are some various "levels of sponsorship"? contingency (pay if you win) vs. salary (pay no matter what). where to network (paddock, message board, men's room?).

  • I like these videos, well worth the watch and make a good alternative side to the driving videos....if you link them together it all becomes far more entertaining and informative than the likes of Top Gear...Keep up the good work :)

  • when leo talks, i listen, but it could be cool to see him drive too!

  • With all this exposure, you should totally get back in to racing Leo. You'll be kept up to date, talk about recent experiences (good or bad), advertise your show, get more sponsors, list goes on. Time is an issue but so low level low key might be good for you and your goals. Just an idea...

  • Leo,

Can you speak a bit slower? Love your info but it's sometimes hard to follow what you're saying.

    Thanks.

  • Can you stop comparing everything to your failed relationships, damn!

  • Words and a studio vs road trips and car testing huh? Well I don't know about everyone else on here but it's Leo's personality that keeps me watching shakedown.

  • That Mclaren is sooo sexy :)

  • enough with the relationship jokes they were just desperate

  • poor leo doesn't seem to know how to present a joke

  • Thanks for the info. Last week I sent out 3 requests for sponsorship. Heard back from one. after a but of back and forth, they decided not to sponsor me. Said I needed to be ranked better.

  • Please stop playing back ground music.. It's very distracting.

  • Great info, thanks.

    -Troy

  • I wish I had enough money to follow through with this. Then I could finally live my dream.

  • @AUTODlDACT I totally know what you mean... it's so sad :(

  • Well put Leo. Love me some shakedown

  • Live chat would be great.

Also share the online seminar recording that John Doonan did. He, Jim Jordan and Dean Case who run Mazdaspeed Motorsports did a whole seminar for drivers on how the business side of racing works. (part of their ladder system) I have always suspected he did it to raise the quality of proposals he was receiving. ;) But he raised the water level in the industry as a result. I think the one I heard was from the '08 or '09 PRI show.

  • Leo on advice for life. No wonder you are succesful. Keep the enthusiasm, it's obvious you don't need Tony Robbins.

  • Drive and FLD all day

  • Great video! Everything you said goes far beyond just racing, it applies to many facets of life. Great job Leo!

  • Leo, while you're at the Rolex 24 stop by the TRG garage and say Hi.. I'll be wheeling around the #65 car for the weekend. Btw, great Shakedown videos.. you should do one that covers the common mistakes people make on their way to the top (I wouldn't know as I'm no where near the top).

Btw, the offer to drive one of my GT3 Cup cars still stands if you find yourself in Northern California some time!

    -mike

  • @warlockjhesus Will drop by. And good luck in the race. BTW- I recall + saved your first offer. We can discuss!

  • @LeoParente And thanks!

  • Leo Parente, while you're at the Rolex 24 stop by the TRG garage and say Hi.. I'll be wheeling around the #65 car for the weekend. Btw, great Shakedown videos.. you should do one that covers the common mistakes people make on their way to the top (I wouldn't know as I'm no where near the top).

  • i don't know if it's just me, but does anyone think he's monotone? there's no change in the way he speaks all through out.. most noticeable when referencing his love/personal life...

  • 5:08 What does the round sticker with the red 'E' on it mean? Seen it on a few race cars.. don't understand.

  • Comment removed

  • @OurCognitiveSurplus It shows the rescue teams where the fire extingisher activation is located. You will see a lightning bolt where the electrical cut off is located as well.

  • @jdoggny Ah, thank you - this is very helpful. I'm trying to get the correct stickers in place on my track car. Blue triangle for the battery location; don't need the lightning bolt because I don't have a remote cut off. Tow points are obvious. The red 'E' was killing me.

So it just goes on the window closest to the extinguisher controls? Thanks :)

  • drinking in the dark ftw

  • he said fuck

  • I say yes for the live chat!

  • I've been watching you for a few years now Leo and I've noticed something weird, You and my Father (Who's 50, so probably a bit older than you) see to get more and more alike. Are you secretly my Uncle?

Love the show. I'd like to see Shakedown University as a seperate weekly show, I'm still getting my head around the new set up but loving extra Shakedown.

    You the Man.

  • more cars, less talk about crap no one cares about (Sponsorship)

  • Nothing like some good breakfass scotch to get the mind 'right', eh?

  • Hi Leo, this is great stuff but i would imagine that most of the racer audience here are more likely to be in some form of amateur or small racing series, which means there is no way you will get any kind of outside sponsorship. The only form of sponsorship i've seen so far is discount of parts and equipment within your small racing community, what sort of sponsors should you be going after if you are in a small racing community?

  • Very informative and entertaining. Keep up the good work Leo.

  • Thanks for making this video, it contains a lot of valuable information!

  • thanks, some sincerity , no BS here

  • Seeing as how I have no one experienced to hold my hand, you are my only source of wisdom and insight. Thank you Leo.

  • That was great!

  • Interesting and entertaining, thanks.

  • Another outstanding video. Its hard to find real deal information on the internet about topics like this these days. As an aspiring racer I'm always looking for advice from those who "really" know. My question would be what should expect from a sponsor? Some are logical, like a paint job from a local shop, but would a local financial business be willing to buy tires or fuel? Or is the answer "it depends?" I only race at the club level but it costs so much that its hard to keep racing.

  • Leo I think you've been doing good. Your the knowledgeable professional of the the bunch of shows...like Tiff Needell is to Fith Gear.

  • About relationships, specifically Penske. I remember reading somewhere that Roger Penske was on the board of directors for Mobil (nowExxonMobil), Philip Morris (Marlboro), and Miller Brewing. Of course all three have been long-time major sponsors of Penske cars.

I also wonder whether he still has any relationship with Detroit Diesel as Leo mentioned, since Penske Corp. sold DD to DaimlerChrysler (now Daimler AG).

  • Leo, can you make a show about racing in the UK, just a idea

  • i'll take a degree from shakedown university anyday leo. thanks for the show.

  • Don't put comments from youtubers as a main barometer. U'r good.

  • was this video sponsored by TRUECar? seemed so in a lot of places >.>

  • I've had never heard of Leo before. I like the guy, he knows what he's talking about. Keep up the good work. He's much MUCH better than alot of "car guys" you see having their shows on TV.

  • MY NEW TEN COMMANDMENTS. FUCK YEAH!

  • NEW TEN COMMANDMENTS. FUCK YEAH!

  • try giving a random interesting fact about cars at the end of the show. for example "did you know Renault was the first formula 1 team to introduce turbocharge engines in F1?"

  • I enjoyed every episode of Shakedown on Drive so far Leo, and weirdly enough your jokes are not funny but still entertaining to hear. you got my respect.

  • @manbearpigonabike agreed, corny jokes aside I still listen intently and absorb.

  • I recomend Laphroaig Quarter Cask: It smells like your grandpa's old hustler magazines.

  • @arena2101 Got it. Thanks. And the NYC liquor stores deliver! Bonus - The Larry Flynt movie is on TV tonite!

  • Why didn't you just interview the truecar guy on camera?

  • @jrs89 Logistics + availability. NOT 'cuz I wanna be a camera hog.

  • @LeoParente That's what I figured. I don't know if there is room for this in the budget, but I think your show would benefit from animated graphics (a la Adobe After Effects) to describe the technical stuff. For example, if you're discussing aero you could have 3D renderings of downforce. If you've ever seen that terrible show num3ers on CBS, you'll know what I'm talking about when the character goes on a math rampage. This would complement your fast and to the point speaking style.

  • "Looks like we got to get serious this time."

    "Impossible?"

    "Not for Leo Parente"

  • here's why i dislike: The guy is probably a good writing (if he's writing his own sets) however, definitely not a tv personality. Simply not entertaining. Has nothing to do with his age, more his demeanor.

  • @trinisuprazee I write it.

  • @trinisuprazee - Who cares? His content is top notch, and I'd rather listen to the guy who wrote the content than some actor.

  • I LOVE YOU LEO!! don't get me wrong.. I just like the way you bring the real ideas that people wanna hear :D

  • Shakedown. FTMFW

  • 7:40 even when u fuck up :DD

  • Who the hell asked the question most of us aren't asking? I love cars, but autocross is as close to racing as most of us have the time for.

  • @2hondafreaks Thanks. That would be a good show. Before track racing, I did that, too. Def could be worth going back to take a look - in car / in competition, sharing advice we find at the event.

  • @LeoParente Ok I'm humbled! You guys really do read viewer feedback. Leo keep up the great work! Maybe another channel for people wanting to get into racing?

  • Google and J. F. Let you swear!?

  • An idea for the channel: bring fld segments from that channel like my first car

  • Leo is fantastic. What a way to deliver relevant info!

  • If annyone applies hate to you leo. Its because we love you. And we do love you. Alot. Fancy videos are great but legit racing knowledge is GOLDEN!

  • any more knowledge im going to look like brain from pinky and the brain, leo is god.

  • Go loe go.

  • this show is the reason i come to drive, great to have shakedown back.

  • good stuff Leo

  • reset the F1 video to public!!!

  • You're perhaps too modest Leo. "Stuff I kinda know"? Does that mean you know "little" about sportscar racing, F1 and, in general, RACING? Come now... The main reason Shakedown got to me is your insight and opinions, thorough and unbiased (except when Danica is the subject, but no problems there :D), Shakedown U is really cool and I appreciate it, but let's leave it as "special episodes", will you? racing news and opinion matters most to me. PS. next time, bring the scotch.

  • Did Leo drop the F bomb? lol

  • @jcoll1056 Yeah, it surprised me too!

  • @jcoll1056 Pretty certain it was an edit miss. Sorry. OR this was the new late night 'uncensored' SD version...... and we're all adults?

  • @LeoParente No problem Leo. No need to apologize. I wasn't offended.

  • Loved this episode.

  • Fantastic Leo. Stick to what you know. A+ man. good practical straight forward info is becoming harder to get. No BS here.

  • Leo, I don't think you realize that there is nothing like this online. What I mean is that it's great to have someone breakdown this information. May not be important to the average car guy but it means a lot to someone looking to start racing.

  • Don't be Danica Patrick, got it.

  • i love this advice. Tips from a racer. I feel like i'm sitting down w/ a friend over drinks. Next time you should have the glass of scotch with you.

  • Talk about burning bridges.... I remember after blowing up his engine in the Cleveland Grand Prix, Robby Gordon jumped and kicked the Blue Ford Oval logo on the side of his car.

  • Shakedown is easily the best Motorsport YouTube show, please do more technical stuff, it's brilliant when you go into a bit of detail. Also more live shows like you did for Le Mans 24 last year.

  • Interesting video, I really like Shakedown !

  • I have a question about this topic. I read a lot about "pay drivers" in F1, from what I understand that drivers have to find sponsors for the teams, but they also get payed by the team to drive, so do (the less famous) F1 drivers actually make money from the constructors or do they just take a pay cut from their sponsors?

  • Love ya Leo. No matter what happens, keep doing your show, on your own if you have to.

  • Joked to my friends about hitting up the local public transport co. for sponsorship for club level comps under the sell that you don't need a road car. Use public, save your dollars and spend them on a cheap track day car. The sell is to all the people who wish they could race rather than those who already are. So you'd need to show how you could get you image public. Also offer to paint/vinyl your car to look like one of their buses. Cheap track car $1k +$300/race. 3K to keep a road car/yr. see

  • Please remove the music, but credit where credits due, DRIVE has been terrific so far, more like Nurburgring 24, perhaps Le Mans or Rally Finland?

  • I still can't find a live stream for the monte carlo rally. I'm surprised mini had a good start

  • not that im complaining, but im guessing you guys forgot to sensor a curse word or maybe it doesn't matter... ? 7:41

  • Great tips killer breakdown. Now how do i get the car XD

  • Did it always use to be uncensored?

  • GO pats! Leo

  • Love Leo and the Drive channel, but you really need to kill the music.

  • whats is that music playing in the credits? its so nice :D

  • @13sfaustino what the drive guys are saying, correcting mistake

  • Why do people complain about the music, who actually pays attention to it? I mean i only pay attention to the show and what they're saying

  • I can not help but feel that advertising is out of control. Even in racing the term of marketing is used to define advertisement. There is a difference. Racing is a good platform to "advertise" car components.(As stated, why is Tide on a NASCAR?)...or the example of RedBull F1. I do notice the RedBull F1 car and team, but it does not get me buy more energy drinks. Energy drinks do have nothing with speed. It does not speak to me. If it was Castrol oil i would consider it as my choice of oil.

  • Awesome, leo. I love ur no BS way of hosting. I learn a lot from you.

  • Shakedown will always work with Leo!

  • This is offtopic but I was wondering if you could do some quarter mile tests of new cars. I always look for those in all of the specs, and some are hard to find. The reason I love the quarter mile times as boring as it is to go straight, is because realistically I don't plan to go crazy fast when I'm turning on the street. On the other hand, the quarter mile time and trap speed gives me a good idea of the cars "push you back in your seat" feel, and that's the fun part for me.

  • Just added all the links to all past ShakeDown University shows. They're in the description.

  • here's another (small) criticism, leo: please calm down the hand movement. it's distracting.

  • well...this is usefull :D

  • leo's is the best.

  • This is the single most informative video about racing sponsorship on youtube. I bought a book on this but you killed it in 10 bullet points. It took them 30 pages. Thank you Leo.

  • good, but I like the mini-doc style shakedown of the Nurburgring 24.

  • i love the feeling of knowing everyday theres a great show to watch. THANKS GUYS!!

  • i had a idea of what to do. but you just made it clear.

    Thank You!!! Leo

  • Did Youtube do away with all bleeps, or was that Drive?

  • Good show.

  • Can you guys trim of the corners of the TV? its so distracting when watching Shakedown and road testament

  • i just realized why im not a big fan of leo. he talks in 3 words. he pauses in the middle of sentences. he has charisma. just not for me. hes like shatner in the way he talks.

  • That was fantastic Leo! Cheers

  • you guys gonna be at speedweeks im going to be down there for them :D

  • Keep doing this, it's always good to hear someone's insight that actually knows what they're talking about and is passionate about what they know.

  • Awesome stuff.

Robbie Gordon says, "You can kiss my asssss".

  • this right here. don't change anything

  • I'm literally in love with you Leo.

  • Brilliant. Just briliiant.

  • awsome vid, something a bit more real and serious like this from time to time is great

  • You're making Drive a legendary channel Leo

Priceless to people who wants to race but have little clue on how to start, someone like me.

and I'm sure Live chat on a race like daytona is a good a idea

  • Great Video!

Just..... you forgot to sensor the f bomb

  • I really love this segment thank leo and the drive team

  • Love this, definitely keep up the real world and mind stimulating features. Harris being hollywood is great, but this stuff can help a lot of people

  • i wanna see a Bentley!

  • I love Shakedown University, but I want more insight on the actual racing technique

  • i want to race for ur team Bring it ...

  • don't worry to much Leo you are a important asset for drive!

  • very good info...

  • What happened to the McLaren F1 video?

  • Comment removed

  • The drive channel needs a racing team!!!

  • Why do you guys censor the word "Shit" but not "Fuck"?

  • @nforspeed91 I think it was an editing miss. OR part of my new 'SD Uncensored" late nite series.

  • leo is the shit

  • man the credits at the end... ARE SO BDAZZ!! >:0

    haha

  • Leo makes Fridays.

  • Leo, you got my first like for one of your videos today. Keep it up!

  • Great job Leo. I am sure I speak on behalf on everyone when I say that I really appreciate that you take viewer feedback into consideration! : )

  • Alcohol and writers...how rare

  • Leo is the man

  • Where do I sign up for more classes?

  • Lets do the live chat!!

  • Very cool show Leo ! Keep em coming, we need more of this kind of real world / behind the scenes advice and analysis about racing.

  • Again a verry nice show. Thanks!

  • Nice video, I am a racer (dirt not street; two wheels not four, but it all takes money) and I'm looking to make the race team I ride for a few more bucks so we can make it to all the nationals in the next few years. So keep up the good work, this is the kind of information that we're looking for. Thanks!

  • You guys let an F-bomb slip in there.

  • @oyurcha1 its leo they dont censor him LOL and i respect them for it.

  • Some awesome advice in such a short amount of time here, thanks Leo!! You're onto something here, naturally.

  • Live Chat sound good

  • Leo, YOU DA MAN!

  • How to make shakedown work? Do more videos like the nurburgring 24 video!

  • Leo, you are the man... you are like the everyday track drivers best representative to real racing. love this topic!
