This game was great too. Founder of strategy games. Music on Amiga 500 + was much better compared to PC version and graphics also much better. The only problem was the processor on Amiga 500 was to slow and levels from 6 on when you build like 20 or 30 minutes you didn't look anymore ate running picture but slow changing pictures. Probably it was meant for Amiga1200 on. It was on two disks. PC version was I believe subtitled Building of Dynasty, Amiga version Battle for Arakis,... Grat all in al

Don't you feel the silly the first time you were playing either as Atreides or Harkonnen and you captured an Ordos Heavy Factory and you produce Deviators but they are totally useless since the nerve gas they fire turns your own units against you? I guess that's why you can only create Sonic Tanks and Devastators at the Sardaukar heavy factory at the final mission.

Urgh, music on the Amiga version is quite bad. I do like Amiga music most of the time but on this game nothing beats playing it on a PC with a Sound Canvas.

let me give you a very tiny hint, the a button is for attack, m button is for move etc. you don't have to continuously go to the buttons with your cursor. just hold the mouse with one hand and one hand on the buttons a and m :)

I had this game for ages, lost it, then got it on CD and ... playing through the whole Harkonnen campaign was really fun. Looking back it was incredibly simple in terms of objectives, but the ending sequence was SO satisfying!

Also, the mini Sardaukar pic is still awesome this very day!

this is information that will change the whole gaming experience... you don't have to go with your cursor and click attack or move. you select your unit, press 'm' on the keyboard then click the place you want it to go. it's so much easier to play this way. attack is a of course.

I sure was glad when they introduced 'group-select' into these games - individually selecting every unit was quite a drag - still, we didn't know better then! You have a good technique there - go straight for the production facility and *BOOM*, I used to line up my bases with LOADS of those turrets and create hallways of death for attacking units.. Same for tanks, line them up and destroy the enemy with fire from 3 directions (he he!). I always played Harkonnen for their armour.

Very interesting music before 1:30. Sounds like PC version but played on something else than OPL2 (Adlib). I checked both Amiga and Genesis versions of Dune2 - they have a different soundtrack. Does anyone know what sound card produces sound like that on this video?

The amiga had a built in sound chip supporting four channels of 8-bit pcm. Since it was proper wavetable, it usually sounded better than adlib. Somewhat comparable to the old Gravis Ultrasound.

If I remember correctly those devastator tanks had shorter firing range in PC version.

It sucked because they`re also incredibly slow.

Seemed like they were always in the wrong place taking hits from enemy turrets and units. :(

As I remember Harkonnen units always get "Deviatored".Atreides units sometimes needed 3-4 hits with the spray,Harkonnens just 1 :O

i played this game so long, it is one of the best games ever. Some years ago they tried a new version of it but it wasnt really succesfull. i always choosed the harkonnnen and it was pretty easy to "turtle" and create a tank over might in this game :)

lol, I remember I would always save just after they announced that the death hand was launched, but sometimes I was a little bit too late and my base would just be blown away! And Id had to start AAAALL over again, lol. If your quick enough though, the death hand will change positions several times, and you can avoid it completely. Word of advice... ;)

I must say you owned this game pretty bad. Ive never rushed in Dune II before so it was fun to watch. The last level could be a real pain in the ass, and I had to save several times to make sure not any of my vital structures was getting blown away by the Death Hand.

In Ordos.The first time round I defeated them with the help "Deviators", but that take me 3 hours. The second time I wanted to defeat them directly and it was possible how you can see. I was lucky much and what's more I forgot during the game about enemy "death hand".That why I destroy his palace at the nearly end.
