The idea that the Conservative are an actual right wing, let alone an American style, party is laughable. They still believe in universal health care and all the mild socialist policies that Canada is internationaly famous for. Even the Democrats are more 'conservative' than the CPC.
I think that Canada is nothing more (or less) than the sum of its parts... And each part is too different from the others to have a 2 party state like in the US. Alberta-Sask have a totally different mindset than C-B or Ontario, and so does Quebec. So I think we cannot have a 2 party system, and I think the more choice you have the more democratic you are. Electing the Liberals for nearly 20 years in a row wasn't a sign of an healthy democracy...
Voting anything other than the corporate not so different "liberal" party is a waste? This is reminding too much of an American political commentator. What I find most absurd about that is...your third party, NDP is a REAL alternative you can vote for, they already actual seats, they form provincial governments. Fuck this guy for propagating the mindset that there is no alternative, that just serves the duopoly of a two party system. You don't want to become like the US in that regard.
Rousseau said it best: "The English think they are free, but they are only free when they elect their members of parliament," Canadians are unfortunately the same way - except for one time every four years, we really have no political say. The system needs to be reformed radically if this is to change.
I don't think that's true. I think Canucks are still social democrats--the greener movements are also about caring about not hurting people and the planet.
The only reason the conservatives got in was that the liberals screwed up. It wasn't a vote *for*, it was a vote *against*.
Harper and the conservatives are vicious and self-absorbed. If Harper gets in, our poverty levels are going to become abominable. I don't think Canadians want to hurt each other.
I am very glad that I live in a country that does not have a first past the post system. IRV and/or proportional representation voting seem far more democratic, to me.
She lost her Job for that - Elle a perdu son emploi pour ce geste. She seem lot more inteligent that lots of Harper ministers!
Haper ne repeésente pas ce que le Canada est, il a été porté au pouvoir par seulement 30 à 35% des gens qui ont voté.
Harper does not speak for Canadians his evangelist gov was elected by only 30 to 35% of the voters.

Real News = Liberal establishment Propaganda
Meanwhile, Greens and NDP steal votes from Liberals (not Conservatives) and the Bloc rules Quebec. And the Liberal idiots still don't get it, lol!!

What Americans don't understand is that if Harper screws up royally he may wind up in a non-confidence situation.
The simple solution would be representative democracy. Then everyone could vote for the best person in their riding.
