The scene is a little overpopulated, with very few bands having anything innovative or "progressive" to offer, and most clone bands can't even do that right.

It's really sad that a great track from possibly Emperor's most sophisticated and musically interesting album is full of comments from close-minded metal fans who in a massive self-contradiction pride themselves on being open-minded, and would rather listen to "true" black metal that consists of 2 chords and excessive monotonal tremolo picking and shitty production blurring the sound. I do understand the influence/importance of that music, but this is album is musically superior to old Emperor.

I still think that the crown-jewel of Emperor-lp's is Anthems... because that's where the artistic views of Mr Haugen and Mr Tveitan were in sync, and it shows. The direction where Emperor went after and during IX felt more the extension of ihsahn's soloprogress, instead of a solid regiment. production as and of itself has nothing to do with it. compare his solomaterial to... say.. prometheus, we are talking about the same spirit within, aren't we?

You're absolutely right, Prometheus sounds like the beginnings of his current style, his solo album The Adversary wasn't that much of a leap (although less dark/twisted thematically). IX was a disappointment IMO.

I'm definitely a fan of Anthems and it's certainly got the "true" Emperor spirit, but if Prometheus is really more just Ihsahn's voice then it means I'm a bigger fan of that than Emperor! Love both the group and the guy on his own though.

@xXNickPXx I agree with you with not dwelling just on old Emperor as most Black Metal fans do, but there's such a special atmosphere when you listen to "In the Nightside Eclipse" or "Wrath Of the Tyrant" that you almost feel a sort of connection to those legendary times in Norway. As good as "Prometheus.." is, I don't believe that the special atmosphere is prominent in there, so I empathize, and even personally feel myself, with BM fans who can't adjust to these experimental albums.

Too bad for them. I agree with you on the older BM atmosphere, but that's why I listen to both new and old - they each have their place as listening experiences, and I like them both. Fans who cling on to a specific style and don't want variety or change (those old albums aren't going to disappear!) are like musicians who never wanted to move out of the classical style of music into romantic for similar reasons. And we would never have progressed.

Sum up: All Emperor rules! :)
