It's so simple. Count from the first day of menses. Days 13 through 15 are potentially fertile days. They teach women this who are TRYING to get pregnant, but they don't tell women to use it for birth control. You want to be extra careful, count it from days 12 through 17, and you WILL NOT get pregnant. I'm 37, and have been off the pill since I was 27. I got pregnant when I meant to, at 33.

There is a 72 hour window of opportunity. So, days 13 through 15 are the most likely fertile days, but if you're really trying to NOT get pregnant, then if you mark days 12 through 17 with a little "o" on your calendar, then you're being good and careful. It's not a guarantee, but it's better than hormones. WAY better than the Depo sterilization shots.

In '82 I lived in Chicago IL & my 18 yr old room mate got pregnant. She was a waitress, no health ins. & she was white. She called the Dept of Human Services, i.e. Welfare, and spoke to a social worker. All she asked for was help with medical ins to have the baby. The social worker told her there was nothing they could do for her because she was 18, working, and white. She told her to go get an abortion, so she did, and not one women waiting at the clinic that day was black, they were all white.

Im of the camp that if it cant survive on its "own", even given the best technology we have, it isnt a human, yet it's at the evolutionary equivalent of a salamander at most of it's/our development. Eugenics wasn't my point. My point was that the choice should always be up to a woman. If there are outstanding circumstances surrounding her pregnancy, she should have the right to abort it as long as it is done within a reasonable time-frame; perhaps the first week or so.

Rape and incest is such a small percentage that its akin to a red herring. no one that i know of is against a woman making the choice about that. the bulk of abortions are due to irresponsibility. someone wants to adopt those children. there are christian groups to help through the process of having the child and finding it suitable parents. abortion shouldnt be seen as a birthright, it should be seen as an action you can take at the utter end of need (rape/incest)
