Montar hélices en turbinas permite una mayor potencia pero menor velocidad de crucero y éste tipo de aviones necesita potencia más que velocidad. Además estos motores turbo-helice son los más potentes del mundo, cada uno de 10000 caballos.

  • How is that any different from any American aviation program the last 3 decades? I mean the f-22 and B-2 are pretty much textbook examples.

  • Well its creates jobs at least plus the American have had programs with shitloads of problems too. Futhermore if you create your own military hardware you are more free to operate, since otherwise you could be cut off with spareparts.

  • this plane will do what the hercules can't do like airborne a complete mechanised unit by example with all CV90 version include 120 tank instead of MBT (you need c17 to airborn MBT), nh90 helicopters and british apache longbow (more powerfull than the US and the tiger) ..etc..for gunship it 's better to wait the V44, a quad tilt rotor. type V44, there's a video.

    Of course C17 is needed to carry real tank. CV90 is not an tank but IFV what weight around 30 tons.

  • I can beleive my country (canada) purschase C-130J "Super Hercule"...we need strategic and tactic airlift and the A400M can doing the same thing like the C-17 (strategic) and same from C-130J (tactical) in one for cheaper price than the C-17 and new aircraft with awesome 10,000 HP engine ,that made this aircraft awesome much more than a 40years old aircraft who can't doing go job for tactical airlift (C-130J ,about the quality/price this aircraft sucks).

  • Well, now they are saying that A400M "may need massive re-engineering work to achieve its performance targets." and it's already three years late. So C-130J is not that bad choice.

  • Some european countries already fly the C-130J's.And some older models. Also we fly the C-160.The RAF flies the C-17. But I dont think that the US would ever buy A400's.

  • It's entirely irrelevant. The A400M is a good enough plane to stand on its own, and fills a different niche than the C-130J; the comparisons above are no different than someone lining up the A400M's stats against the C-17s.

    Oh, 140 million euro for a C-17, 100 million euro for an A400M, and 45 million euro for a C-130J. Europe should push strongly for the U.S. to buy a few A400M's in reciprocation for a NATO purchase of C-130J's.

  • Europe is considering Commercialising its logistics for its millitary/Peace keeping operations. Look on the European Defence Agency website. `Commecialising logistics`. You dont always need to use millitary transport. You can make good use of private companys to ferry millitary equipment around. Like companys that operate Antonovs.

  • Oh please, I enter cockpit C-130 once and found out that it wasn't a glass cockpit aircraft at all after some major modification. Airbus A400M is more than C-130. It has glass cockpit, more range, less fuel consume than C-130, more payload and more function. It is time to look forward not backward.

  • The C-130J are still old design and small number in USAF. How did USAF are buying Airbus KC-30 base on A330 are foreign airplane and the air force one are also buying Airbus A380-800 to replane old B747..

  • Would the US call a NATO allies foreign. Germany doesnt mind having C5 Galaxys on its soil. Im sure the US wouldnt mind having a few A400Ms built by one of its allies. Any other non-NATO nation I would call foreign.

  • It will be the work horse of the ESDP ( European Security and Defence Policy ), with a few given to nato to stop them from complaining, and feeling left out, LOL. It will ferry the EU battlegroups to crises hotspots around the world. A European piece of equipment, ending reliance on the American crap. Its an excellent aircraft. There will be a European Heavy lift Helicopter being designed by France and germany ( European Defence Agency website.

  • I cn't comment for the French or German's but I can't believe the R.A.F. are still going to buy this, for the same money as the A400 m buy we could have got twenty C-17's, twice the lift capacity and some true global reach, the only reason is political, keeping BAE in money, while denying the air force the best equipment.
