Interesting to watch balloon parachuting. I didn't know anyone did this anymore, although it's a good idea. I have heard that when the British used balloon jumping for new paratroops that they had more refusals to jump than from aircraft.
@oldeafcoot Balloon refusals were unheard of except once when a regular US unit visited us. We were Territorial Army (National Guard) & 1 of your guys refused. He jumped later because his Captain ordered him back & told 3 guys to "Kick the sonofabitch out" if he refused again. But we had refusal on a C130 on my jump course - the rest of my squad were regulars on refresher training. It impressed me that they did not blame him & told me "Its not natural to jump out of an aircraft"
@oldeafcoot The first 2 jumps on the British course were always from a balloon but they stopped it about 18 years ago. Some say the balloons were worn out and could not be replaced some said the accountants said it was cheaper to use light aircraft. The British army is so broke now we have paras who have passed selection, done active tours in Afghanistan but never jumped!
Last I heard was they were being sent to Fort Bragg to get their wings because it was cheaper than training them in the UK.

I am Belgian, but my French is piteous, so forgive me for trying to explain it in English.
Belgian paco's jump out of a balloon (THE balloon) so they won't be exposed to the speed of a c-130. If your first jump is already out of a plane the chance for twists or other problems due to a weak exit is twice as big.
The balloon is nothing more than a trainig, it's not used in combat.
