Oh my gosh, this is such a messed up PSA! Poor puppy. But it's true. Pets aren't toys. <:' That's why you should make it a responsibility when you adopt one. <:( <:)
It's not out of the ordinary in the UK, sadly (or just abandoning the dog somewhere.) That's why the RSPCA had its better known "A dog is for life" campaign.
You can get up to a £20,000 fine or 51 weeks in jail for "organised" cruelty ie. dog fighting, bear baiting (!) etc. For abandoning your dog/throwing dog in a canal sentencing would be at the judge's discretion, but you wouldn't get more than the 51 weeks or £20 000. You can also get a court order to prevent you from keeping animals again. Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 pet owners now have the legal duty to provide a minimum standard of care for the animal - food, water, vet and so on
anyone who would do that to a dog, deserves to be taken out and beaten. i had a dog who i loved, house trained and gave lots of attention to and after he died when he was 15 of cancer, he left a house that was heartbroken. now 2 years later we have Sara our new dog, and we love her just as much. sure dogs are hard work...but the rewards are endless
Dude! We had to keep our dog in our basement most of the time around the end of the time we had her since my little sister was walking around, but we fed her and let her outside and we didn't dump her in a f*cking river either. We gave her to a nice couple who had just lost their own dog who was a black lab like her.
No animals were hurt? NO! The RSPCA are REALLY going to drown a puppy aren't they? But honestly, it's digusting that some people really do that. I'm shocked that they really did give in! I was OK with the Heinz Italian-American cook kiss ban but that is sickening! And The ASA played no part! So it wasn't an order! Spineless!
Not even the altered ad would fly here in the States. For some reason, most of us seem to be obsessed with blocking ourselves from anything "unpleasant" to the point of oblivion and ignorance.
This ad makes me nauseous. But I see that as proof that it's doing the intended job.
The alternative ending is probably more the reality for the can't be arsed pet owner they are trying to depict - shove your unwanted dog in the shed/garden/cellar/wherever and forget you've got it and convince yourself it isn't cruelty because you didn't actually kill it. Didn't the RSPCA also get into trouble with the press ad of the photo of the pile of dead dogs they had euthanised that week? They must have had some clever creatives at that time who knew how to push the public's buttons...

It shocks me that the RSPCA would be spineless enough to alter the advert due to a few complaints. The whole point of shocking people with public information films is that it makes them uncomfortable and aware of the evils and foolishness in the world. The sad truth is that people DO buy pets and end up abandoning them.
what just happend

Thumbs up if you want to kill all the people that neglect, treat their pets poorly and kill them.
Animal cruelty is to be banished.

The ending of this version is much more hard-hitting than the wardrobe ending. It's a good PIF/PSA, and I think it should be shown in the US.

Yep, that's exactly how I feel about my "fellow humans" They aren't fellow humans if they act like that.
This video should be shown here in the USA as well, hopefully make some people think.

Are you serious? 2001? It looks like filmed in the 80's!

Sick, just sick! The people who do this should be put on the wheel or in an iron maiden! They belong there with rapists & murderers!
ILoveES33 3 years ago
And that's the way you really feel about you're fellow humans?
No-one deserves torture, you degrade yourself to their level when you yourself adopt their methods.

What a heartless thing to do to an innocent little puppy.
Pets aren't toys. It's a full-time job taking care of a dog.
