@atownlefttrain In my experience, it translates well, Judo, Muay Thai and BJJ are the best combo for street fighting. Why? Muay Thai, you have clinch work and striking. That's necessary. Judo, you have good throws. And BJJ, well, you have the submissions and GnP. I mean, I have a BJJ and Muay Thai background, and I've gotten into my fair share of fights. All of which besides two (I KO'd one and Kimura'd the other) ended with me choking them out. A little technique goes a long way.

lol all this MMA vs boxing bullshit. I'm a medical student so I'll explain it this way. MMA is like the GP or the Emergency Specialist of the fight world, jack of all trades and master of none. They CANT be master of one because if they do they compromise the other, e.g. you cannot be a great boxer if you are a MMA fighter because you have to watch for take downs of your lead left foot etc. Boxing is like a hand specialist.

It allows you to come in and prove that you have what it takes, it doesn't take someone from a completely different martial art and take away their tools. Nobody took anything away from Toney in that fight - he was allowed to use the tools he's mastered over many years. That's why it makes no sense at all for anyone to say 'he should go and box Toney under boxing rules'. MMA is the most open-to-everyone style of fighting.

If an MMA fighter steps into a boxing ring, he's stripped of his ability to use the majority of his tools other than punching. It's not about which sport is better, I was simply pointing out that a wrestler (Randy) Vs a Boxer (Toney) only makes any sense in MMA.
