I know this is an old video but surprised no one spotted the only setting which is different..UAD switched on Limit, while CLA-2A switched to compress. No wonder you're getting differences. Would have been beneficial in showing the mixer on the screen too, proving that everything was set up 100%
The LA2A is a slow attack opto compressor using it on drums and for this test will not show how it shines - a vocal track would have been a better sample. The 1176 is a much better comp for drums with its fast attack to fully capture the snaps.
Well in my opinion the UAD Version is better. I think the waves has an automatic make up gain which may sound better to the un trained ear. Having used a real LA2A and owning a UA LA 610mk 2, I know that you have the opportunity to choose and adjust your make up gain. In addition the UAD platform is designed by UA who are the same people who make the LA2A and they hired engineers to make exact replications of the hardware. This one is a no brainer. UAD all the way.

Also, the audio bitrate within your video is 119 kbps, i guess it is impossible to be able to hear really the plug-ins character with such a small bit-rate. is it aac?
could you upload the video using a lossless codec instead? or youtube doesnt let you this?

Without matching their respective levels, it's really difficult to compare the two. The Waves LA2A obviously has automatic gain compensation, so as you raise its gain reduction it tries to compensate by increasing the output level. The one with the loudest output will always sound better to most people because they haven't slightest clue what to listen for in compressor behavior.

This is misleading, just because the input volume is higher. And it may even be that the EQ is on, which you can not see here.

also sync your loop on time the transition is terrible.
your CLA-2A is louder, everybody is gonna say it sounds better..
set the output levels....or something..
