No doubt a leopard could kill a male gorilla if he took it by surprise and the gorilla was taking a shit but a face to face (fair) fight would result in the big cat getting spanked. It would be like me creeping up on mike tyson and smacking him on the noodle with a lump hammer, even he would fall like a house of cards, but if he came at me face to face, I'm sure he would take my head off. Moral of the story, . . . don't mess with big gorillas or mike tyson!!!
@rockafelladw Well no shit. That's because they would run away. A cheeta ambush attack a fawn, doesn't mean in a 1v1 fight a fawn would killed the cheetah.
A full grown male gorilla has the strength and dexterity to rip a leopard's legs off. He has the jaws to crush a leopard's neck. Maybe this happened as the story says but it would have to be unusual circumstances. Even a full grown male lion would think twice about a full grown male grown for lunch.
@freestanding1000 brute force isn't everything. you underestimate a leopard maybe simply because you never saw one with your own eyes hunting, and understand it's strength. a leopard is alot faster, lighter, and probably just as powerful as a full grown silverback gorilla, and back in the 80s, leopards were a big treat to the low remaining numbers of silverbacks.
Even Rhinos sometimes get killed by Leopards. Especially if they are crossbred with Gorillas - Leorillas. Pound for pound they are the most capable and mean killers in the entire universe.
he said it happen once, doesn't mean that it happen often. He said as if I it rarely favors a leopard in a Gorilla leopard fight. Also it widely known that full grown male gorillas kill Leopards.
i like leopards as much as the next guy but i'm also a realist. a healthy 180 lb male leopard against a healthy 450 lb male gorilla = dead kitty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While it has probably occurred on rare occasions that a leopard has killed a gorilla it would be far more likely that the leopard would die in such an encounter. Leopards average about 100 lbs; adult male gorillas 300 to 400 lbs. And primates have extraordinary muscle strength. The molecular structure of their muscles is so dense that they cannot float in water, but sink like a stone. Even tigers and leopards can swim. Gorilla also has canine teeth as long as a lion's.
your comment is so funny and innocent lol-big cats have a diff type of power-based on their ferocity, agility, huge canines, lethal claws, instinct to deliver killing bites and ability to ride blows from horns.tusks and antlers-and that is why big cats can kill buffalo, guar bulls,hippos,rhinos,elephants,grizzlies,giraffe,crocs-and so of course a leopard -even a very small leopard can kill a mighty silverback if it attacks with stealth and gets a good kneck grip-if it fails it can easily eascape also
Ok partially true but all a silverback has to do is either 1. break its back or 2.rip open its mouth.Gorilla's can take more than leopards.I've seen a gorilla straight break a full grown tree, bend it all the way down to size just to get a bananna, and he did it without a problem.
lol, most of what you say is solid, but even the bigest of big cats, (excluding freaks like the liger, perhaps) really don't stand a chance toe to toe with a grizzly. or an elephant, hippo or rhino, for that matter.
also, the bili chimps (not a new species, a sub species) aren't actually known to do much more than eat the same things most chimps do and nest on the ground.
they're rather large for chimps, but not giant. and certainly no match for a leopard alone.
It said once killed a gorilla. The leopard would have to get a really good hold on the gorilla from behind which often doesn't happen due to a gorillas size. If a gorilla and a leopard went face to face the gorilla would win every time just because of shear bone crushing strength, intelligence and agility.
leopards vary greatly in size and a leopard could easily reach a third of a silverbacks size-so bigger than the one mentioned in vid-and dont imagine gorillas are more agile than any cat let alone a leopard-cos they arent-also no gorilla could catch a leopard and leopard climb trees unlike silverbacks-as for power leopards regularly kill animals bigger than gorillas-an eland is twice the weight of a gorilla-so i dont ever see a gorilla killing a leopard-but it could easily drive a leopard off
@steve273 leopard would to be more than crazy one to even attack something huge with teeth that could easily puncture the leopard . arm strength that would break the leopards bones . baboon have even killed leopard s. so what makes you think leopards could even attempt a gorilla . plus leopards are solitary hunters why would the leopard risk getting hurt and cant hunt . only slim chance a leopard would have is a ambush attack from behind still a longshot though . a face lolreally no way

Keep in mind that gorilla was probably killed in an ambush attack. Most cats attack by ambush and surprise.

@FireStormBaller Cheetah's can't kill much of anything. I've seen 1 hyena chase off a cheetah. They are very limited to what they can attack.

@rockafelladw I didn't say a hyena, I said a fawn.

Chance of leopard killing a silver back gorilla are slim to none.
there are new species of ape in afric that have been known to hunt and kill leopards and sometimes lions. Known as the bondo mystery apes

If a gorilla can easily pick up a car how can a leopard who doesnt even have hands stand a chance with a gorilla

Yeah, pound for pound, gorillas are stronger than bears. It wouldn't win against a bear (canines, claws, etc.), but it's stronger.
