  • La mejor interpretación! Ninguno como Guy!!!!!!!!!!

  • Powerful song! Thank you for posting such an inspirational video. You know, when a christian passes away, we should rejoice! He's in a much better place than we are, but we are sad because WE miss him.

Just an FYI, Bill Gaither now has a new DVD about Guy Penrod and featuring him singing. It was shown on one of his weekly broadcasts. Wonderful man of God!

  • This is preaching it is not the OLd Rugged Cross

  • @fungusthebogeyman its called the "old rugged cross made a difference"

  • Never mind the lump. the tears flow freely here, just the thought of what Jesus did and opened the way for Rex and each of us! Thanks for all these amazing posts hoover.

  • Goosebumps

  • 7:33 it's an E5... great song!!

  • Awesome - these three are not only awesome singers they are in the spirit as well - oh yeah

  • RIP Rex Nelon.

  • It's amazing when people are feeling such deep emotion ,

    it's beyond a performance , and I guess there's the spiritual

component to it also , wow....

  • Nice video, we've lost alot of legends in the last few years! Our loss is heavens gain.

  • i didnt know .. never mind... i love the streaming , groupings on the songs... REX WAS ONE OF THE GREATS...cant compare him.. he was unique..

  • I am sorry it has been hard on me today these past few days

  • One of my favorite with Guy Penrod. He doesn't just sing a song, he makes you feel it.

  • rex nelon was always my favorite bass ever. he was a great man of God and im so glad to have heard his songs!

  • thank you for this moving post

  • Guy Penrod's voice is awesome and he's easy on the eyes....

  • Oh yeah!! His first solo concert is 8/30 in Branson, Mo...I've got my tickets!!

  • Ive often said my favorite bass singer was and still is Tim Riley... another favorite bass singer Ive always enjoyed was Rex Nelon... he may not have been as low as Tim or J.D, but boy could he sing bass.. if wasnt the best, he was close

  • can anyone tell me what note David is hitting at around 7:34

    (is it more than F5?)

  • It sounds to me like it is E5, which is just a half step below F5. Isn't he amazing?!

  • wow, thanks a lot!!!!!!

    and yes He is amazing!

  • Nope! It's a fifth. And it's amazing!

  • I know this was about 9 years ago, but it is just as powerful now. I still felt like choking back tears as Bill spoke and especially as Guy sang. I will really miss Guy in the group. His obvious and honest passion, as well as glorious talent always gives me goose bumps. And, I think the hair is FANTASTIC! even today (2009).

  • hoove thank you .

  • Not the 'Old Rugged Cross' I was looking for, but 8.37 of joy. God Bless, I will cling to the old rugged cross, and exchange it some day for a crown.

  • Im just a lonely sinner. I Hope this song is on your mind too.

  • You're right. That is one of many. He has a solo concert scheduled for August 30th in Branson, Mo. Hopefully he will do some of these powerful songs then. Can't wait.

  • One of the many that will not be the same without Guy's powerful voice. Not only his voice, but the feeling he puts into it.

  • He sure does. I am saddened that he is leaving the GVB but I hope and pray for the very best for him..

  • Guy Penrod is a wonderful Christian man with a beautiful wife and 8 children 7 boys and 1 lovely daughter. This man is truly blessed by the Lord so is his Children for having him as a father.

  • my favorite part of this was seeing Mike Allen, a member of the bass section with Rex Nelon, crying throughout the video, it kinda showed how they were a team u might say

  • the long gray haired guy IS CUTE HE MAKE GRAY LOOK SEXXY

  • That is Guy Penrod.

  • wow! lol

  • Yes this is and old song with still a powerful message today. 1912, Reverend George Bennard "(1873-1958).completed the final version of his beloved hymn, "The Old Rugged Cross. George Bennard, was a native of

Youngstown, Ohio but was reared in Iowa

It was first performed on June 7th,1913, by a choir of five in Pokagon Michigan. Published in 1915, Billy Sunday popularized the song.

I have a simular version that will just rip your heart right out as it touches the soul so powerfully!

  • Jesus, this is great indeed. Heavenly voices on earth. Praise God!

Brother Rex Nelon, may he rest in the peace of the Lord till we meet again in heaven. Amen..

    Thanks for sharing.

    Welldone and God bless †

  • I don't know how Bill was able to get through that. What a strong man! It brings tears to my eyes every time I see this.

  • this was the best vocal band ever assembled!!!

  • god this is so pwerful what a send off

  • yes the cross makes a diffence for us all; my bother Larry passed at the young age of 42 after struggling with mnany addictions but I know he has met Christ through it all; he is there with us always even in our moments of darknesss; praise be to all.....rest in peace...your little sister Janet xoxxo

  • One my dad's favorite. I miss him more than anything in the world...but hearing these words comforts me.

  • A picture paints a thousand words...

    but music paints the picture!

  • Wonderful and Powerful Song! Praise God! The Cross had Made a difference!!! Amen Amen

  • Praise God!! The cross has made the difference for me!!! Hallelujah!!! I love you all my brothers and sisters in him, we must not let our faith be moved. We must wear the full armor of God always. If you are wondering how a christian should act, read the entire book of James. God bless you all!

  • Wow...the Lord speaks through this song...

  • such hope for us for sure.

  • A big Amen and So Mote it be.

For the anti-Christians you don't know what you are missing. Salvation John 3:16 of the Holy Bible (it's free for the asking, just step up.)

True we may stumble, we're humans, that's expected. We aren't expected to be perfect. All ya gotta do is make it right with our Lord, and it's done, no questions asked, regardless of what ppl has done.

  • This song was sung @ a funeral of a really close friend who was like a grandfather to me and I broke down when we sang it there. I went to church the following week and we sang it in church and it was soo soo hard.

  • When my grandmother passed away my mother found a note requesting that my dad sing this song at her funeral that she had wrote like ten years earlier

  • This song reminds me of my Grandma Jean who passed away on 9/11/05. She kept saying this exact same thing to her grandchildren(me, johnny, maddi, and Luke). Now this song is so moving and it makes me want to cry everytime I hear it.

  • Fantastic so moving , the entire video gets a five.

  • Awesome

  • what`s that harmony note david hits....waw!

  • where at?

  • This is one of my favorite songs!

  • Amen Hoover... what a soul lifting song! Thanks for posting this video. God bless. . .

  • What a beautiful song to remind us of the price the Lord Jesus Christ paid for our sins and the reminder that death has been conquered through his sacrifice. We worship a living God who gave us Son on the cross for our sins. The Gaithers are absolutely the best and its a shame we are loosing the great singers and these songs.

  • Halleluja! So stell ich mir den Himmel vor. Die Anbetung Gottes von verschiedenen Menschen; die anderen machen mit - dann kommt der nächste dran - und wieder machen alle anderen mit. - und das die ganze Ewigkeit

  • its sad that all these good singers are dead but these type of songs are comforting.

  • How could anyone think that they could call attention to our Lord. He should be praising God that He called our brother home!

  • This just more proof of how God gives these men such great voices to sing with

  • Here I am again Hoover with a lump in my throat. Jesus made a diference in me 35 years ago. Please what DVD or video is this...blessings

  • once again, it says right in the begining of the video

  • Sorry Hoover I seem to miss the opening part of the video so that why I keep asking. sorry again please bear with me as I want to get as many songs with David. Like you I think he is great and has been a really blessing to me...sooooo anointed

  • "The Old Rugged Cross" was written by George Bennard who was born in Ohio and accepted Christ at the age of 16. George joined the Salvation Army and later joined the ministry in the Methodist Episisocal Church. From aa bookmark that I keep in my Bible that has the words of the original song. God bless.

  • What a song! Amen! I was just going to ask everybody, can anyone give me verses in the Bible that suggest that people go to Heaven when they die? Thank you all. God bless.

  • The first verse that comes to mind is 2nd Corinthians 5:8 - Also 2nd Timothy 4:6-8

  • "AND, the Old Rugged Cross Made the Difference in my life. I am so thankful for Bill and Gloria Gaither for penning these words that mean so much to those of us who know Jesus.... This is one of the first Gaither songs that I remember learning to play on the piano in the small church that I grew up in with my dad as pastor.....

  • One word...beautiful.

  • ...The cross...said it all... Beautifull God bless ,John

  • grace grace grace!!!!

  • DIO VI BENEDICA!

  • Rex will be missed so much heavens gain

  • oh my god that guy can really sing, god bless him

  • Sad for you guys, but remember he is happy with God, he would want the going away party song, which is beautiful, I want that sang at my own funeral. we live our life for the end, so we can be with christ who we love so much, and who loved us so much. God Bless all of you, you have given me so much joy with your songs & love.

  • Very touching, and inspiring! This makes me proud to be part of the family of God, and I am so looking foreward to the day I will see my loved ones who have gone on before. Blessings 2 u!

  • Our tears will be wiped away when we enter God's wonderful kingdom. I pray that this song, and the testimony of Christ's dying on the cross makes a difference in many more lives. Praise God!

  • what a praise honoring.

  • wow. GVB is just amazing..

  • Absolutely Outstanding! Great Song, Great Songwriter, Great Quartet!

  • How could someone listen to that and not feel something? The cross truly did make the difference. He suffered such a horrible agonizing death so we wouldn't have to ! What LOVE !

  • awsome god bless

  • How moving! This is the BEST GVB group there ever was! I miss Mark and David even though I love Marsh and Wes.

  • This song is so moving and Guy Penrod does it with so much conviction.I have this cd in my car and play it everytime I am out.I have requested it be sung when I pass, it just means so much to me, I can't get enough of it. God Bless all.

  • Words can't describe the greatness of this performance. I watch it over and over again and enjoy it more each time.

  • This has to be one of the most powerful and moving clips on this site. It shows how the spirit of the Lord can overcome grief and bestow love and fellowship for all. A truely moving example of greatness.

  • GOD IS GOOD

    PRAISE GOD

  • To GOD be the Glory

  • When you see how they say farewell to one of their own; channelling all their tears into this powerful testimony, you can't help but see how tightly knit this family of God is.

Guy was channeling the power of The Lord and everyone felt it.

  • Thank you for posting this great song and testimony.

  • THANK YOU JESUS!!!!

  • This 'performance' (it isn't that at all.. it's all testimony) is as powerful and raw as it gets. Guy is seen in prayer just prior to singing.. undoubtedly to be strengthened.. and this song is the result. It ALWAYS makes me weep in joy and worship.

  • This is my favorite group of all the GVB combinations- such power and such spirit and such love!

  • Thank you so much! God blessing on all of you.

  • Thank You Jesus...The Old Rugged Cross truly, truly, made the difference. I love you Lord.

GOD BLESS U Gaither Vocal Band, REX Don't know you personally but see you in Heaven.

  • The best song ... It's sooo beautiful and diferent, becouse is for Jesus glory! God bless Gaither Vocal Band!

    & thanks for posting :)hoover4000.

  • oh ok, thanks again!

  • I've known about the Goodmans, Jake Hess, JD Sumner, George Younce among other great veterans who have passed over for a while :(. It's hard to imagine from watching the episodes. I thought since they had passed on that other veterans were brought to the front row to carry the tradition.

  • thats the problem, there aren't that many other veterans :( there is some of the speers still alive, but other than that I cant think of any still alive.

  • I know this is not a reply to what you wrote but it seemed the quickest way possible to get in touch with you. Do you have the video of the gaithers doing when I survey with David Phelps singing the last bit of the song?

  • yeah i do :)

  • thanks for posting

  • I have another question, In the current Homecoming concerts, do they still have the veterans sitting in the front row?? I see Lilly Knauls now sits in the front, but who else sits there?

  • well sadly, most all the veterans such as the goodmans, jake hess, george younce, jd sumner, etc. has died. Otherwise, I know they'd still have them sit in the front row if they were still with us.

  • i'm not sure why she didn't sing a solo in this concert. it's possible she did but they didn't put it on the tape? or as you said she could have been sick.

I dont know about ann downing but Larry Ford still sings in the concerts. If I remember correctly he sang a solo on the recently african christmas gaither videos.

  • Thankyou for that Hoover, I really appreciate it, heck I appreciate the clips you upload. It's a wonderful blessing and a great way for fellow Gaither Homecoming fans to fellowship. We get 30 minute episodes every week, but since seeing these clips, I don't seem to mind our lack of coverage.

  • I have a question. I just saw this concert in it's entirety. My question is why didn't Vestal Goodman sing a solo? Was she sick? or retiring and had to be phased out? I noticed some newer singers, so did she appear to pass the torch? I also have a concert from 1995, and the line up of the singers from then to now is interesting. I'm aware that many of the veterans had passed over the years, but vocalists like Larry Ford, Ann Downing who are still alive, do they still appear on newer concerts?

  • Everytime I hear this I want to cry. It is sooo beautiful.

  • I like Guys Hair!

Love that song! he has a nice voice!

    Thanks for posting°

  • hes trying hard to fight back the tears

  • AMEN to JESUS

  • Come quikly lord JESUS

  • guy does an amazing job on this one..i wish i had a voice like that

  • I used to minister , never much a singer, and have been missing it of late and this song really touched my heart, thanks

  • Great story ....horrible hair!
